I got called for a trailer that was half loaded with barley mash that was sinking into the ground and on the verge of rolling over. The rear half of the trailer was empty, and the front half was full, so it was a lot of weight to lift and definitely a job for a big wrecker. But I don’t have a big wrecker so I brought my @NRCIndustries 40TB rollback and got a little
creative to get the job done!

To the casual observer that may have looked like simply lifting a trailer’s landing gear out of a mud hole. But, this was a very technical recovery. There was a lot going on and a lot to consider. Any number of things could have gone wrong and all of them would have been bad. Casey, you really showed your skill level and an exceptional knowledge of your truck’s capabilities and how to use them effectively. You actually made it look easy! Great job! 👏

@@Vagitarian01 Like the old joke about calling the guy out of retirement to fix the control console in a power plant. He comes in, looks at it and gives it a good kick. Then he hands them a bill for $5,010. The manager screams, "That's ridicules, all you did was kick it!". The guy writes out a new, itemized, bill. Kick console -$10. Knowing where to kick it -$5,000.

In case anyone says that Casey did it wrong , he doesn't have an 1150R rotator at his disposal , just his heavy duty rollback , which worked just fine ( although I'd bet he wouldn't mind having a rotator truck )

You can tell the old gentleman was really impressed with your ability to slide the truck backwards! Too bad he wasn't out there to advise whoever dropped the trailer without blocks under the feet. We have all been in a hurry & done it though. Know I have, but tend to remember how much extra work it makes for myself later. You can see the guys mind really working! He is totally enjoying you talking to him! That's cool your taking the time to explain, most guys tend to feel worthless as we age, Im still learning too!

@Joe Stimac sometimes the ground looks solid even though it's not. The impression I got was that it started sinking halfway through the loading process. The trailer probably didn't weigh enough when empty to break through the surface crust.

I dropped a chip trailer once in a gravel lot loaded with about 66,000 pounds of chips. I knew better but I was in a hurry and thought it would hold with the weather we'd had lately. I've dumped loaded trailers there before. Well, we got a lot of rain and down went the trailer. I felt really bad because the service manager that I've worked with for over a decade told me how much of a fight it was to get that trailer under a truck again. We were 105,500; 43,500 legal on tandems with a drop. So that trailer had a LOT of weight on the plate and it was loaded to the max. The landing gear definitely didn't support it.

I drove truck in Alaska for 13 years, before my 10 years here in Oregon. I've had a front end loader lift and drag my trailer out of a driveway once. Also had several landing gear sink. Once had to chain a sinking trailer to my truck frame to keep it from flipping while waiting for a wrecker and a guy like Casey. Casey did a fantastic job with what he had to work with. A very capable dude.

This guy is an amazing operator with incredible expertise. His truck is a very trick piece of kit. I like the way he gave the other guy the opportunity of making the decision that the job was finished. If he messed up putting the prime mover, I'm Australian, under the trailer and stuffed it up, the tow truck driver could have charged him for a second job. The initial problem could have been avoided if he had put blocks of wood under the legs in the first place. If he didn't have any blocks, he could have used the spare wheel as a weight spreader under the trailer leg, if he placed it face down.

Been there myself but before my incompetent driver dropped his 50000 cement loaded trailer on a shoulder. Shimmed the landing gear to slow the unavoidable sinking and slid another tractor under the trailer just in time. Fired the idiot who put us in the tight spot and gave a grand to my driver who saved the day. We avoided ruining a brand new flatbed, dumping 13 pallets of white Portland cement into the ditch incurring a hefty epa fine and pissing off my customer waiting on his product. I really enjoyed this video and it took me back to a time to think it through and solve the problem. And let’s not forget the 25 hundred dollars I saved by not calling the tow service. All this was done via video phone call. Thanks again
