Great topic. One of the beauties of the 44 mag is that you can shoot the big grizzly loads when called for but you can also load it like a 44 WCF or even a 44 Henry.

Pretty nice groups...nice redhawk too. Could you show how heavy those 300gr xtp's are? Thanks in advance.

Well, I am using a max load of H-110/W296 using Hornady published data for the 300gr XTPs. Thanks for watching!

Interesting. My same philosophy is ~1050 f/s, just below the speed of sound for accuracy but high enough for ~600 fp energy. I used same primer and boolit with Midway cases and 9.0 of Unique or 231. 5.5" Redhawk -> about 1070 with Unique and ~1125 with 231. Uff cuss, Unique is kinda dirty... So, I will use 231 at 8.7 or 8.8 grains IF ES and SD dont open up. My light field load is 8.0 of either for around 900 f/s. IF you want to use the knurled Hornady swaged boolitz, use 7.0 of either for ~800 f/s, Those will lead above 800. Crimp over the front of the SWC shoulder. I prefer Unique for those because 231 can be position sensitive with light loads. I haven't tried Tite Group in the 44, but it is very good for lite loads in the 357.

Yeah, a 240 at 1000-1050 is still a powerful load. Thanks for watching!

240 at 1000 is pretty close to the original 45 Colt loading. That seems like a good combination of effectiveness and manageability. Perhaps Universal would be a good powder to try.

Noticed your cases visibly bulged at the base and the case mouth. Was this previously fired brass. I ask because I get the same results loading 45 Colt once fired brass, using the RCBS sizing die. Doesn't affect the chambering or the accuracy, but it's a dead giveaway with once fired brass. I'm thinking about trying a different die. When I size and load virgin brass, the cases are symmetrically pristine. Guess I've gotten anal after thirty plus years of rolling my own. 😂

Yeah, my brass has been reloaded many times. A different resizing die might not have that base and bullet bulge. Stay safe!
