Loading screens will probably disappear in a few years so putting ads there wouldn't be reliable I think. Anyway, that was interesting.

I should also note that loading screens from a pure asset POV will be minimized assuming the assets don't scale at the same speed, but from a network perspective (e.g live service games, multiplayer games, etc), there's only so much new technology can do against latency. I like the discussion though. It's part of the reason I make videos for this channel hehe

They may become unnecessary BUT even in tech we use loading indicators or other time-related visuals literally for the psychological effect they have on our users - the same usage can be argued for the future of games

This ads in loading screens is an idea that sounds good but isn’t and I doubt anyone in the industry would be foolish enough to try it. Consoles are actively pushing against loading screens, with Microsoft and Sony driving the wheel with better memory systems. Game developers actively trying to hide and disguise loading screens as “crawl spaces” or “travel vehicles 3D loading screens” and so on. Ads in forced loading screens would be worst than loot boxes, and can only happen as part of a “free” tier inconvenience. A better idea than this would’ve been to put dynamic product placement in video game worlds. Like ads on a Stadium field, tailored dynamically toward the target audience where the footage is streamed. A concept of virtual billboards, that truly don’t interrupt the gameplay. Loading screens will continue to fade away not come back in trend.

The problem is companies will not make a free version. It's straight to the 70$ games and you cant do anything about it. They will also put loading screens behind every action. You know it. Also if all your games are run off the cloud, then what happens if that server crashes? Or if it gets destroyed. No more games. This is why old physical copies are better. You keep your damn games.

The major flaw in this idea is that if the zenkai (free) tier is aimed at ppl that can’t afford to game then the adds would be irrelevant; They would not be able to afford to buy what the adds are selling

Dude, water is different from games Water is a necessity for survival, games are not (despite how great they are) I'd rather stay as far away from corporate schemes as possible And also if possible, i'd love to slow their efforts to alter the gaming industry for worse too A game being free is a sign of something else being compensated, the money isn't being paid upfront on the game alone I've learned this through alot of time i've spent with free games, sometimes it's a surprise trial, sometimes the game is infested with microtransactions And sometimes the game is just too ass to be worth playing, let alone buying

What about the market moves to a more pay for production model and if they hit the goal for the profit they want then release for everyone at a low or Free* and you could go further & by releasing the assets so now other devs can use them (copyleft/freeware ect) we could get to a point we’re your competitors might willingly give you millions for the code and assets. I wouldn't worry too much. KZbin operates just fine off ads, and knows if they push too hard less viewers come. It's a balance, and an ad-tier would be an option for those unwilling to pay a monthly ad-free subscription fee.
