I have a 68 1700 4x4 in Central PA. Just got some long awaited brake parts from a machinist buddy. Gotta install the drum shoe adjusters, order a $300 brake booster, and find some appropriate mirrors and its finally ready. It came rigged up as a single rear with a 90s Chevy 8 foot bed. I restored the dual wheels and built a 8 foot flatbed using 4x6 as the sideways wooden frame AND the deck boards!! I can't wait to get my lights on and see if it can go over 45mph with proper tires hahaha. Have fun and be safe gentlemen, love your truck!!

I remember helping my dad with his old 1962 Loadstar with a 22000 gallon tank on the back. We used to call her Number 1 in a fleet of newer trucks. Due to insurance reasons, the vehicle became obsolete. However, on the property, we would us the truck to transport fuel oil and diesel (same thing, but got to keep it sep). My pops used to say "Fire in the HOLE!!!!!". I'd spray the carb with, essentially lighter fluid, and ole Number 1 would come to life.

Sorry to contradict you Michael but the International Loadstar was just about the only US truck which has ever sold in any numbers in the UK. They came over as CKD kits and where assembled locally both rigid (straight) and tractors from about 66 to 72. They were light and cheap so got a following, the largest user to my knowledge was Jack Bradley Transport of Accrington Lancashire who had about 60 of them (one of which is on the preserved circuit and does a few shows). They would have sold more if they'd had a decent engine but most if not all had a Perkins 6.354 112bhp, pretty useless in a two axle rigid, but in a tractor just ridiculous, but they were very light, very cheap to buy and parts were cheap, and that was enough for some to buy them.

Sweet rig! I have a 2000 International LPX 4700 T444E Low Profile. I’d like to do a cab swap with a 1965 Loadstar but unsure if it will work, I haven’t done all my due diligence. My trans is the AT542 and it’s about clapped out. Contemplating an MT 643 swap, (3rd & 4th lockup) but a few of the conversion items are extremely hard to find. Seems like all the schoolie conversion guys have snatched them up. Going with a manual trans might be easier, but again, I’m not sure what work well. My rear diff is 3.43 I think. Anyway, my grandfather had a truck rental business back in day ‘60’s through the ‘80’s in Fresno and he had probably close to 50 trucks all like this, that’s what’s driving my motivation to locate and purchase one and recreate his old truck rental color scheme.

@CSXT82502 жыл бұрын
Try to leave the 345 alone. At least I would if it were mine. You see, the 345 was like a gasoline engine that was created to do everything a diesel would do for that time period. 1). Run at high load all day and night long repeatedly it's entire life. 2). Extremely durable. 3). Outstanding reliability. 4). Do so for hundreds of thousands of miles. That's asking a lot from any gasoline engine. International hit the ball out of the park. It did everything a medium duty diesel would do, but did it quietly! 3,500 rpm was a lot from these. They had excellent off idle torque just as a diesel does. Outstanding engine! You wanna go fast? (Why not !) Do this: source a complete running Big Block anything.. I.E. 455 Olds with TH400 trans, or 440 Mopar with 727 trans, 500 Caddy etc. Swap it in, go shred some tires! Just.... Not with a 345 IH. 😉
