When Zack Snyder introduced Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman in BvS (DCEU's 2nd movie), they criticized him, saying that he should have given the characters time to marinate, with their individual movies coming out first, before bringing them into an ensemble-like movie. But when James Gunn brings all these characters together in his FIRST DCU MOVIE, we're hearing crickets.

And what needs to be made perfectly clear about that is BvS wasn't even Zack's idea. That was WB's idea. Zack wanted to do a MOS 2. WB wanted to rush to Justice League ASAP because The Avengers came out during MOS's post-production. MOS wasn't even made with a shared universe in mind. This why Zack wanted to do MOS 2. So because that's what WB wanted, they left Zack to do the majority of the heavy lifting to set-up Justice League in BvS which is why that movie needs to be 3 hours which is his Director's Cut (AKA "The Ultimate Cut") and why the butchered version that came out in theaters does not work. WB screwed over Zack again and again.

I've always found it completely laughable that they label it Snyder's Universe when he literally only directed two movies that were released theatrically and was a producer in name only on Wonder Woman there were literally 14 movies that came out after Zack Snyder left for his personal tragedy, but yet he's the one that takes all the criticism for this universe, what about Warner Bros for interfering and almost every single movie that came out after that? Ok cool. One minute fans claim the studios don’t listen to them then the next minute listening to fans is a negative. How would this casting change perception of Superman!? The trailer broke records. You clearly have a bias calling it garbage. There were also reports of positive test screenings. Test screenings aren’t the end all be all. There are a few movies that reportedly tested poorly and did well. Wonder Woman 1 was one of them and joker 2019 was another. Also the Jeff scheidner guy came out and clarified his statement about the test screenings. He said his comments got overblown. Who on earth believes Superman is like the Mummy!, and it’s not like First Avenger was a terrible movie, even though I doubt Superman is anything like that movie. The movie isn’t even finished. The only people running with the pour test screen report are people that already want to hate it, so again how is this casting a distraction, sounds more like a conspiracy theory from a bias person to use to fit their narrative. Supergirl releases in 2026. They are working on it, Jason announced this on his own, Gunn just confirmed it! You act like the studio leaked the info.

When most people went to see the movie because of him, as well as Michael Shannon as Zod. Batfleck too. The little hype it gained was DOA before this was known. It bombed miserably because it was worse than the truly bad seasons (7-8) of the CW TV show. So rather than have Michael Keaton be elder Bruce in "Batman Beyond" they said "nah nope, I guess nobody wants to see this." Yet they went ahead with Battinson. They make no sense.

DC fandom is both broken, and lost at this point. There's no corner of this entire brand that I can feel proud of right now, and only find solace in their older, better work. (For me, it's the DCAU.) And I can't even talk about my opinions, or praise regarding DC without being dog piled by irrational fools who are either 'Team Snyder', 'Team Berlanti', 'Team Gunn', or 'Team TTG'. So while I'll always love the DC content from the past, I've moved on from DC, and there are other properties to enjoy for the time being. Wether James Gunn's DC content will actually get better remains to be seen.

However, I soon found myself tuning out, and watched it over two disinterested sittings. And that's been my experience of the MCU ever since. Not worth a second viewing.

Is it Mr. H Reviews, I think that your story, RS, sounds remarkably similar to his, regarding criticizing AoU. He said that when it was over and he realized it sucked, no one even wanted to talk to him about it. They'd rather criticize HIM than acknowledge any of the film's shortcomings. And worse, they'd use the classic excuse of "overall cinematic achievement" meaning that Disney and Marvel could give people the biggest pile of crap ever and in the minds of the general population, they can do no wrong as long as it adds to the shared universe. The MCU is the worst franchise in history with the most blind support I've ever seen from fans who can't think critically or be rational, don't want to debate or have conversations, and would rather bash you if you do anything less than worship their preferred franchise because they truly believe the MCU was above criticism! I can't deny your personal experience in dealing with Snyder fans, but in my life experience, I've seen FAR more hatred and toxicity from MCU fans. They just want dominance and to hear their opinions coming out YOUR mouth. And now we're seeing the same thing happen with Gunn's DCU. I wouldn't mind Jason Momoa as Lobo as yes it's lazy but it definitely works. But I have no faith they'll actually go in with Supergirl for real. They always make her a "female superman" when she simply is not. Even the great Justice Leaque+Unlimited series were off, let alone the CW show. James Gunn's DCU "news" cycle seems to be: Rumour about, whatever. Same rumour later somewhat confirmed by industry insider. Usually then some social media response deflection. Eventually, official announcement confirming rumour to be true. I mean, great for content creators, but I just don't know how some of 'them' keep their hype. There's a KZbinr I don't really listen to anymore, who has made like over 40 videos for the new Superman film, even though, in the recent past, he has stated he doesn't like Gunn's sense of humour/writing, etc. Can't imagine doing that, and then being like, "Yeah, (I) didn't like it." Personally, I think that guy is going to HAVE to like it, whether he does or not. If he doesn't, he will get ripped apart in his comment section. I have total deja-vue from all of the DCU news. Nothing seems new, and I feel bored with all of it. Not inspired, and WB has made me indifferent. Thanks for keeping it real Joe, and not getting caught up in a hype train, which quite possibly will be an illusion for the box office.

I don't know if the DC fan base is broken because general audiences and word of mouth are still are a huge factor in a movie's bod office success. I think the issue with that post on X was that it probably became part of an algorithm for people who are caught up in the DCEU v DCU tug of war. Also those people are portraying the casting of Momoa as betrayal. And given how Ayer was attacked for supporting Gunn I can see how your post got swept up in the moment.. And speaking of being swept up --- I think that ie what happened to Henry Cavill after his Black Adam appearance. Henry was caught up in The Rock's promotion campaign to run the DCEU. Unfortunately for Cavill -- no definitive contract was in place for Gunn and Safran to continue the DCEU. Jason Momoa has a contract. If you think that's fan casting BS --- cool. What you may not know is Tom King originally had wanted Lobo in his series Supergirl Woman Of Tomorrow. DC Comics editors had him take that part out with LOBO. This is why Lobo ie Momoa is in the film -- there's a connection to Supergirl in general and Tom King specifically. How much of a role Lobo will play is unknown because no one has seen what King originally written.

They'll never have the guts to do supergirl right, and then we have "just another" batman and "just another" superman. By the time they make "teen titans" people who did care are going to forget they even made the blue beetle....pilot? This isn't a universe that's going to make it at all. 2027 for a batman that needs to prove itself-if it doesn't, 3 is definitely not happening. That'll be it for the whole thing (whether it stays separate universe or the delay is to merge). Meanwhile they had the prior universe go from paying to exploding and decided to trash nearly everything post-Aquaman and wonder what happened.

He misses the mark. The problem that DC faces is that fans have tribalized everything and have become spoiled brats. There is no divide between a Marvel fan and a DC fan. You either like a movie or you don't. It is OK to like the drama of the Snyderverse as well as the more comedic of the MCU. Snyder Bros are on a revenge tour, behaving every bit like the haters did in 2013 and in 2016. Both are cut from the same cloth. There is no mandate that you must like either Snyder's work or Gunn's work.
