Great video. Consider finding yourself a used, modern, shorter, wider windsurfer and you will work less hard, go faster, and plane way sooner in less wind! Lots of used gear in FLA! I sail a 2006 Fanatic Shark 145 and have hit 32 kts. Scared the hell out of myself but loved every second! These shorter boards would be easier to store on your boat, too.

When using epoxy ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES!... When gluing wood, always pre wet the joint with unthickened epoxy before adding thickened. If you don't, you can wind up with a weak joint from the dry wood absorbing the epoxy, instead of the epoxy bridging the joint. For that joint at the top of the mast, you could use six layers of cloth because it rides out of the water.

In the footstraps! Good footage! We used to rig in the water. Tied the board to the boat, than sat on the board and rigged the sail and boom. Then reverse the procedure for de- rigging. You could use the inflatable board for extra rigging platform. Then it is easy to put the components back into the boat, by standing on the inflatable , or the board.

I've sailed my own 25ft Westerly, up to Nicholson 55s, but my dream boat is the Najad 34 (feet). I sailed them many times when I was in the UK military. They'll go anywhere, any weather, and they have tons of room below. AND with a bit of customisation they would be easy single handed, or for a couple. I skippered a trip from Denmark to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, via the Bay of Biscay. The boat was a delight for the whole trip. They are such a well built strong boat and they go fast for their size. Value for money too, a lot of bang for your buck.

@@dherman0001 Fingers crossed! The hardwood finish on the 34s was gorgeous. If the boat is in sound condition I doubt you will be disappointed. If it is your first boat I'd highly recommend you get a professional inspection; may cost you a few hundred bucks but could save you a fortune in the long run. Things like corroded chain plates and stays can be awfully expensive to fix. Plus the inspector will be able to advise on the price, if it needs adjusting down.

Those Mistral longboards from the mid 1980s really love a long reach at speed! (My 12 ft Bic Bamba is very similar.) Gybing and running I still find a challenge on mine, because the position is so unstable on a narrow board, and you have to weight the stern to raise the bow to let the long board turn. Have loved your channel, with your varied adventures and your ability to improvise and repair old kit. My windsurf gear is cobbled together from old used pieces, so i appreciate your talents! How did you find runs and turns on the Mistral?

I am still about 2 years back in your videos so not sure what you have done, but for the trailing whaler dingy behind your boat, have you considered a rudder, maybe like a surf board, under it that is removeable by sliding it forward out of a groove, then your dingy wouldn't fishtail :)

@Sam I don’t know too much about fiberglass but I really feel like some sort of metal T-rod would add some strength to that joint, at the very least some drywall screws. Also before you started putting on the new layers it looks like it had lifted from underneath which she probably should’ve chipped off since now your fiberglass is just attached to loose fiberglass. Finally I just want to say I appreciate your approach to ads. And everybody knows it’s kind of bullshit but it pays the bills so that we can get more videos and I like that you’re not lying about the stuff and kind of giggle when you’re exaggerate.
@Eric_In_SF
@Eric_In_SF Жыл бұрын
Ha ha I know I just watched your break it. Bummer but you need to add some sort of reinforcement rod. Fiberglass on its own cannot support lateral forces like that. Even putting on like three L brackets on each side would probably do the trick
