I like the info you give but you know there is always the exception. For me, My 1992 Mazda B2600i with manual transmission needed servicing I didn't have the ability to do.. I didn't have a lift to drop the tranny. 1st time anyone but me has worked on it. I called the dealer I bought it from and they politely told me they couldn't get parts to fix. BS I thought. I figure they knew they couldn't charge me more than the truck is worth. Carried it to an Indy and got what I needed. BTW - 'Tis a great looking truck. Repainted it in 2014. Even now, I sometimes get complements or offers to buy it from complete strangers while at the gas station. Everything still works. I hold to it in case something bad happens to my newer stuff... my Ace card.

I do almost all my service myself, including recalls and warranty stuff. But when I don't, my local dealer has never given me crap about not buying my truck there, never even once. As you said, why would they? Either way, they are making money, and maybe getting the chance to sell to you next time. Now, what I did see where I used to work was the service manager not wanting to do service for people who has taken their vehicles to another dealer for service even once. It was one of the reasons I decided to quit. I don't like when people who are supposed to be your leader, acting like a child, and messing with my paycheck by putting people off.

they can match it they just don't want to. if they ever give you a hard time about the service tell the manager you want the number of their regional sales office or headquarters. your service will get done and you will not have to call. they don't want you complaining to the company headquarters about them. i had a ford dealer who wouldn't return a deposit after they couldn't get a vehicle when they said they could. i called ford headquarters in detroit and got my deposit in 3 days.

Hey Jason. you are a straight-up dude, and I enjoy your videos because they are full of good info. I live a mile away from my local Chevy dealer, and they couldn't match the price I found out-of-state. They once told me to go get the vehicle myself because if they sent a guy to get it then it would cost me more $$. They changed ownership a year or so ago, so I'll have to see how they treat me. If not so good then I'll just go to another Chevy dealer for service until my warranty expires. You an Tina Have a Very Merry Christmas & a Happy Healthy New Year!

Great video. I haven’t purchased as many new vehicles, but for the used ones that I have the same logic applies for getting your vehicle serviced at your local dealership. If a salesman says otherwise, don’t take it personally or get worried nor would I put in effort to correct them. As long as you’re in control emotionally and rely on the research and logic you did before getting to the lot you should be fine. If you’re really sweating about it, just walk over to the service department and ask or just call. All these people are human not your enemies just takes some experience to feel comfortable walking around the lot.

I have never had a problem with the dealer servicing my out of town purchase. Once, they even took off the other dealer's sticker and put on their own. The salesman may tell you that they put you to the end of the line, but they don't. Now this does NOT APPLY to boats. If you didn't buy your boat at that dealership, you go to the end of the line. Merry Christmas!

For earnings, Service and Sales are usually treated as separate divisions within the dealership. One usually doesn't care about the other so while I try to buy where I'll service, I don't stress if I wind up buying elsewhere. The only time I've seen it matter is at motorcycle dealerships during the busy season. I've been turned away a few times because I didn't buy the bike from the dealer or needed warranty coverage for something that needed the Service Manager's help.

Great point. Rv dealers are the same as like you said cycle dealers are. Rv dealers will prioritize people that bought there. Or atleast they say they do. Always fixed my rvs myself and never brought one to a dealer for any repairs. But I hear horror stories

I use a local mechanic independent garage, instead of the stealerships, for my old Honda CRV. Having said that, as for sales; a Honda stealership in PA (about an hour away, and out of state) is selling a Honda Ridgeline black edition (top trim) for thousands less than the Honda stealerships near me in NJ.

they can care less where you bought it, purchased several out of state and my last one purchased in Bakersfield and had my truck in service the first week in Long beach.... Service is where they make huge profits.....Mine was warranty work but they gladly took it in, were super professional, had my truck back earlier than quoted and they fixed the problem....good to know my local GMC service dept is one of the better ones they dont care where you buy it, its a myth that buying it where you get it serviced will somehow benefit you Service, sales, and used departments at a dealership might as well be different companies....they are completely separate entities

If you used i dont feel going to a dealership is as important. But if you buy new i dont know why you wouldn't go to your local dealer right from the get go whether you bought car local or out of state. It will just be easier in the long run if something goes wrong and you need warranty work😊

Service and sales are completely separate and have different managers service gets paid by the sheer volume of repairs they get in and out. I'm sure they're more happy to see non-warranty repairs because they make more money, but they don't even care where you bought it. Now I will say when you're purchasing your vehicle if they tell you they're going to do certain things to it you should take it back to that dealership because another dealership is not gonna want to comp things that were included in the sell of your vehicle such as touching up scratches, window tint, adding hitches etc but normal maintenance and warranty repair take it anywhere you want. I haven't found that they treat you any better or do the repair faster if you take it back to the dealership where you bought it from

Jason, good video and agree with you. Question - what to do when the vehicle you want is not at your local dealer but in a different town? I had a situation where the vehicle I wanted was at a another dealer out of town. It was a Ford and my best price was X-Plan (Ford supplier) which is a fixed discounted price (invoice) so all dealers that accept X-plan charge the same fixed price. Here I debated about just going and getting it myself (at the other dealer). The other option was seeing if my local dealer could trade for it. Either way the price would be the same but I thought about going local so that they could get the sale (assuming they could get it from the other dealer).

all ford and gm dealers do the plans that are fixed price. they don't have an option of accepting it or not. they will get the vehicle for you. they are making money and are not going to turn down a deal. if you have problems call ford headquarters in detroit.

Ok partner, how do you deal with registering and taxes and financing if you are out of state. Im in Ca., and im thinking of driving to Nevada or Arizona to buy a new vehicle since the difference in price is significantly lower there than Ca. Also driving a new vehicle with little or no insurance back to your home state. Since your a seasoned veteran at doing this....I figured I would ask. Many thanks in advance.

Most deaerships in other states states especially states that boarder your state will handle everything for you just like if it was bought in your state. The insurance is easy as your insurance company will handle it exactly like it was bought in your state immediately

If you are paying for service work absolutely they will want it but warranty work you'll be at the end of the line and from my experience most of the time they'll say everything checks out fine. Dealer service is over priced and not great on Warranty work because dealership doesn't make any money.

That and how a dealership charges double or close to double on repairs. Once my warranty was done I deal with an independent shop. Chrysler wanted to charge me 1200.00 for back brakes. Not oem parts. Two shops I deal with charged quoted me 568.00 and 641.00. Ya do the math. Brakes are simple job. There called stealerships for a reason
