I'm jealous! We had a shop that cured meats, made sausages and lovely pies like what you bought, but it closed 18 months ago after nearly 100 years in business (and they took cards!) There is a butches/bakers shop out in the sticks near me, they do local farm stuff and their meat pastries were the best ever. One week i noticed they had different ones in and there were nowhere near as good. When i enquired about them, i was told it was a local lady who used to make them for the shop, and she had recently passed away. ☹ Such a shame, obviously for the old dears family, but i will never get to savour one of them fine pastries again.

Great to see you looking after your lovely Mum and Dad, Gareth. Some of the best pies are in Barrow and the least expensive. On early mornings all our shift had a meat and potato pie, fresh from the bakers and a pint bottle of milk @7am - happy days, delish!

Perhaps they call them 'Potato and Meat' now is because the potato content does outweight the meat, unlike the old days. When I was a kid I used to collect a load of pies from our local bakery, Esther's, and take them down to the cotton mill for all the ladies' lunches. They loved Esther's meat and potato pies best of all, but her cheese and onion weren't far behind. The women gave me tips, enough to buy a record at the end of the week. Should have pickled red cabbage! 😂😋

we have lost our Butchers and bakers here in our part of kent so we long for the days of fresh, hot meat pies mind you we are original Londoners so our fave pie is the one that comes with mash and liquor from the good old pie and eel shops like Manzes in south east london. when we travel to scotland to visit family we love their scotch pies and when we go to Blackpool its meat and potato. Nice to see your lovely parents again and your Mum brews the perfect cuppa by the looks of that one you had...

I don’t know if “Dash” mini products are available in your country but if they are you should get a mini pie maker. It works perfectly and the finished pie is exactly that size. It only takes about 5 minutes and you’re only limited by your imagination. I made apple pies and also sausage and gravy pies so far. I use store bought pie crusts. It comes with a cutter to cut the top and bottom crusts. Here in America I paid $16.99 US.

Plenty of pie makers available in the UK. Our electrical products are generally a higher standard than American due to all ours being 220v. Doesn't apply to washing machines quality though, I have two Whirlpool American appliances.
