A former head of the standards watchdog is urging for a thorough police investigation into the tax dispute involving the sale of Angela Rayner's council house ten years ago.
Sir Alistair Graham, who chaired the committee for standards in public life from 2003 to 2007, supports Greater Manchester Police's recent decision to reinvestigate whether Rayner, the deputy Labour leader, violated electoral laws a decade ago.
The controversy revolves around the tax obligations related to Rayner's sale of her home in Stockport, Greater Manchester, in 2015, particularly regarding capital gains tax and her residency status at the time.
Initially, police stated they wouldn't investigate Rayner, but James Daly, a deputy Conservative Party chairman, criticised the decision, alleging that relevant documents weren't considered and witnesses weren't contacted.
