Amy, Tongli completely reminds me of nearby Zhouzhuang. I had ladies sing to me there as well. The local culture and cuisine are quite similar it seems. I will be quarantining soon in Kunshan, then expect to get some quality time in these towns immediately after. I appreciate the video so much! Taihu san bai is now on the menu for me! :)

I tried the Tai Lake 3 whites, the fish is actually quite fishy smell if they just steam it, the silver fish is just awesome if they cook with tofu, and some restaurants will dry the shrimp out and cook as soup.

A fun idea would be to give someone who ordered boba the green bean soup and witness their perplexed reaction. The stinky tofu merchant was treading in dangerous territory with the age compliment because he could've incorrectly guessed in the other direction. 😬 "I've never seen a rabbit in a restaurant." fujian has a similar dessert called 冰饭. it's also glutinous rice in syrup water topped with a bunch of toppings like red bean, fruits, raisins, peanuts, and more. But we eat it with a spoon instead of like a drink.

All the food looks yummy! My favorite is stinky tofu. Can eat a few cups of stinky tofu in one sitting! As for the shrimp, l think one can eat all parts of the white shrimp as It looks soft enough to chew it all. On a hot n humid summer day, love that cool refreshing minty bean dessert too n watching the comorrons catching their fish, up close is a treat whilst sipping on chinese tea, stunning scenery of Suzhou indeed. Thanks to Andy for showing the hidden gems of Suzhou.

I would trade one night in old Suzhou for a month or year in all other place in China! Suzhou is so unique in her own way. I am glad that they keep it that way to some extend and the old city was not replaced by the newly developed zone.

I have never seen glutinous rice in a drink in my entire life, but it does have health benefits. Then, even I haven't tried stinky tofu, but can't stand the smell far away from the store. Moreover, having dinner in a traditional Chinese style home feels majestic, it brings back what it looks like in the past. And it's best to visit Taihu (太湖) in Spring, since there are cherry blossoms/Sakuras to see.🌸
