Local Wildcamp.......Broken Camera, Burning Cars and Whisky

A simple local wildcamp on Houndkirk Hill overlooking Sheffield, weather forcast was for dry weather, a nice pitch on Houndkirk was chosen all looking good.
As usually the weather and other events did not go to plan, then a unexplained fire appears only half a mile away on the moors.
Luckly I had a nice sherry bomb whisky to relax with in the tent .

Brilliant as always Pat......i guess knowing what time that car was torched will be crucial information for the police to check where and when it passed any local CCTV cameras although unless there was some serious crime connected to it the Police wont do anything because they are too busy arresting people on behalf of The Easily Offended Brigade :) Hopefully the Council will clear up the mess soon.

Hi Olan, a couple of ladies sort of took over and reported it to police, if no reports of crime with vehicle, I dare say it'll be up to the council to clear up all the mess, probably leave a nasty scar. A completely stupid act, probably worth thousands, but gave me a bit of drama and something to film, hoping for more relaxed camp next time..... thanks Pat

Tomorrow I am travelling with work to Asia in business class. It’s the only pleasure of the trip but I would swap 2 weeks in the Far East in a 5 star hotel to do what you do for just one night. In a heart beat. I dream of camps like this. Perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant, you are a class act Sir. All been said in the comments, but worth saying again, salt of the Earth fellow that does real camping. I went with the Boys Brigade, when I was 11, to Edale. Loved it then, and still to this day. I'm 68 years. Peace be unto you.

I am now 54, up until I was 45 I couldn’t stand Whisky but I found single malts. I love Jura, abalour, glenfiddich etc . Life changes, embrace everything. I have a special friend who never drank, never took drugs, ran 21 marathons and got a quadruple bypass. He felt cheated by life. Life is a lottery , you just have To do what makes you happy and make everyone else, as you do, very happy. Just bought a stove just in case we get power cuts at Christmas. Anything could happen.

Great video that. Had to laugh when you said your food was "quite basic" , 99% of wild campers seem to just boil up some flavoured noodles. Most of them really dont put any thought into their grub for some strange reason. Its so much more enjoyable with a decent meal. Oh and a hip flask with a wee dram in it.. Hi Patrick, Watching your video yesterday, among a few others, made my long journey by coach to Sheffield all the more enjoyable. Bravo dear chap for another excellent video. The Range Rover blaze certainly added an unusual dimension to your wild camping session. Although I often thought about wild camping, I usually ended up scaring the wits out of myself as I considered personal vulnerability aspects whist camping alone in an open expanse. Those were days before cell phones. That was one of the chief reasons I favoured camping at designated sites - not that protection was anything like brilliant. I certainly envy your courage Patrick, but you have valuable knowledge of where, and how to go wild camping, as well as bivying. Knowledge like those are a huge contribution towards a good wild camping experience. Me too dear chap! ‘Twas Dore Scouts that planted the camping bug in me LOL! All the best from Phil.

Hi pat great video, I ve never been to your area near Sheffield but from your videos it looks very nice on those moors and it would be quite cool to visit one day. I’m on Dartmoor so I usually wild camp there. I really enjoy your videos of you camping and the delicious meals you make. Keep up the great videos 👍🏻 Surprising to see a burnt car especially a nice Land Rover discovery

I would say that considering the remote location and the late hour the sad reality was that the car was stolen and the thieves were disposing of the evidence. It’s heartbreaking to think that car could be someone’s pride and joy. Thanks for sharing another great camp Pat!

Been waiting for this Pat. Great to see you enjoyed a nice rib eye, some beautiful whiskey (my birthday is coming up so I fancy a nice sherry cask!)... Lovely spot that... And a fire too... Hi Lee, yes lovely spot up there, did,nt expect the early bonfire though. The steak was a bit bigger than I thought, only just fitted in my trianga frying pan,but very nice, and a whisky or a few always goes down well.... thanks Pat

Hi Pat, A new video!! You've really cheered me I'm laid low in hospital with a touch of COVID, hopefully be out soon, wife has it at home as well. That first camp in the scouts sounds wonderful, I can well remember my first one too. Great experiences that I wish all youngsters could have. That whisky looked wonderful, I'm having a dram when I get back home. Some interesting incidents in your recent adventures from the mountain rescue teams to this car fire, It must have been stolen one way or another. Glad your feeling fitter, just through doing the simple things, well done. As always good luck from Spain!!

Hi David, sorry to hear about the covid, very similar here with people who never caught it early, seem to have got it now, looks like everyone will of had it soon, must admit I got it in July after visiting Beziers, never actually new I had it until my wife tested positive . On the bright side you will have additional immunity when you get back home. Some great memories in Scouts, freedom at a very young age. Another great camp, something always seems to happen, part of the fun... anyway all the best and a speedy recovery...... thanks Pat
