The worst exercise I ever did, when in the army, was only a 3-day exercise in the woods of Farnborough, UK in 1976. It wasn't cold, but it rained for those 3 days, non-stop. All of our equipment and spare clothing was soaking wet. We slept in shell scrapes which filled with water overnight. It was awful. My hands were painful because the skin around my nails was peeling and red raw due to being constantly wet. I did many longer exercises after that, but that one will never leave my memory. We were all so miserable.

My tolerance for wet weather camping is pretty low these days...its just so insidious, no matter what you do, the wet always wins and makes things miserable. Wearing waterproofs is pointless when hiking and lugging a heavy backpack, as I just get get drenched from within by sweating, no matter how 'breathable' the jacket is supposed to be. I don't mind freezing cold as long as its dry, I don't mind baking hot and sweating, as at least I can get stuff dry at the end of the day...but cold & wet, its just the worst possible weather for anything & everything.

Shorts and fast drying footwear is the way forward unless its icy cold, your feet and legs will stay warm with movement and dry off faster when resting. Plus you wont sweat as much. Also always have a micro towel, and change of clothes in a dry sack for when your tent is up. Alternatively, you can move to a hot weather country 🤪👍🤞

Hi Patrick great driving as I was in back seat enjoying the scenery while you were driving! Nice area and the weather wasn't good but being in tent listening to the rain hitting the tent is an awesome sound. It's better when it rains when your about to go to sleep and sound relaxes you! Great little spot to camp and possitive things for me when it's raining is sound of rain hitting tent. Your not going to get wet in tent too. Plus when rain stops you could go out side . I've heard of whisky but never tried it. Maybe just maybe try it with irn bru. I'm always looking into lightweight food when camping. Hope you enjoyed this wild camp even though it rained. Every wild camp is different! Looking forward to next video and take care!

Yes, the rear seat might of been the best place, haha. The weather was awful, but the camp was still enjoyable, even if a bit challenging at times, because it was raining then shelter, and food became much more important, and then once safe in the tent.....just enjoyable again, helped with a few whisky's....... thanks Pat

Hi Pat. You are so right. Different camps, different weather and new experiences. I’ve been camping for 20 odd years and I still learn something new every time and make great memories. Great to test your gear and get confidence that it won’t let you down if you get caught out. Thanks for sharing. Gary

Another great video Patrick. I look forward to your next one. You are so right about what people say about going out in all weathers. I’m the same and go out whatever the weather as it’s already planned. I’m pleased that the tent held up to the weather too as it’s a tent that I keep looking it. Thanks again for a great video.

Hi Ed, yes once it's on the calender then I,am going no matter what, would be a bit boring if it was always nice fine weather. Been very pleased with Soulo, gives you that added security, might be a little heavy, but for me that's strength..... thanks Pat

Santa kindly brought me some Aberlour malt and you're right, it's very nice indeed. He also brought me some Talisker Storm single malt from the Isle of Skye. I don't know if you like the Island whiskys but this is a delicious peaty one with the taste of the sea. All the best for 2023.

A very nice whisky, and very kind of Santa to bring you a bottle, love the sherry influence, as for Skye whiskys, I,am not too keen on the peaty and smokey ones, I did have a bottle of Talisker , and took me a year to drink it, some many great whiskys out there..... all the best Pat 😊

Pat you are a trooper, i seen you camp up trees ,on sides of rocky outcrops, and up mountains, I wish i could do just half that at your age, and i did rather enjoy the trip up the road in your car, telling us how you wrote off yer car when you was a lad, we all been there i think. great Video, miserable weather, however i find the rain very relaxing, Thank you .

Thanks Mal, set my sights on Crow Stones and accepted I had a hard trek, the weather did make it tougher, but once original camp was abandoned, then easy walking, although the constant rain was avery uncomfortable, once in the tent with my whisky as a companion, everything was fine...... thanks Pat.
