The anonymity set hasn't been cracked. The glowies still don't have an algorithm to track whether you sent XMR to Alice or Bob. But if Bob suddenly cashes out BTC from a KYC exchange in the same value of XMR you sent to an unidentified person, then the glowies have pretty good evidence you paid Bob, not Alice. The math isn't broken, user behaviour is. This is why Chainalysis can claim "We can track XMR". Sure, but only probabilistically and only if the user is dumb (like cashing out the exact same value in a traceable coin on an exchange).

Just 1 day ago, Tornado Cash developer got sentenced to 5+ years for "making" tornado cash (not sure about the other 2 guys who maintained the github repo), and court basically said, "the operation is completely their responsibility. Idk much about this project tbh, it came in 2014 and reached nowhere. Other way around this is having blockchain as a hosting platform and using smart contracts to ensure the integrity and different checks. Total anonymity is still possible if you just know more than Satoshi Nakamoto knew about making bitcoin.
