Even though the weather was on the wet and windy side, so much so I couldn't get a shot of the lighthouse at Niest point for water being blown up and over the cliff. I' ve been watching your channel for several months now. Unlike others, I' d like to thank you for speaking the Scottish variety of English. A bit of a surprise, eh? :) I 'm into close-up street photography and photojournalism, including use of mobile phones, which suggests I go where dishes are served ready to eat. We have no hills here where I live, not to speak of any mountains, but we do have forests and different types of sand, stone and shores at the seaside. I do take occasional shots of nature, too, but I admire the determination of those who go for tens and hundreds of miles as often as they can and even camp on a windy mountain slope just to take photos during the fleeting blue or golden hour, getting up with the birds or going to bed shortly after the sunset. I do this for recreation and leisure activities only.

@@PhotographyOnline When I was doing large format portraits Polaroid was $1 per exposure. To put that in perspective 5x7 B&W film was $0.25 per sheet. I live in Australia and love the show. I enjoy the friendly teasing that goes on, which is great. Interesting segment re viewers questions which prompts me to ask " How important is it to use manufacturers lenses with their bodies. Or is it OK to say use a Sigma or Tamron Lens on a Sony, Canon or Nikon Body.
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nino. Thanks for your comment. It is perfectly okay to use third party lenses. In some cases they may not focus as fast or be as sharp but in other cases they may be sharper. The Sigma Art range for example is often better than equivalent glass from the big camera brands, but they are also heavier. So it depends where your priorities lie. Certainly don’t be afraid to try good third party lenses though.

In the Q&A segment, the (final) point about shooting where you live is well taken. However, it can still be a somewhat bitter pill to swallow for someone who is inspired by,and attracted to, "somewhere else". Personally I live in the deep (and I mean *deep*) south USA, but I love dramatic landscapes, mountains, waterfalls, rugged coastlines and such. Well, those simply don't exist where I live. So I struggle for subject matter. Shooting other subject matter can be a temporary fix of sorts, but it's no permanent scratch for the dramatic landscape itch. While I totally understand the entirely legitimate point that was made, it's still bittersweet to a significant degree. There's no substitute for "being there". 🙂

Really love your show and am learning so much! Thanks to everyone for all the hard work that goes into each episode. I have a question for you if I may. When shooting in the winter months, especially when temps drop to well below freezing, what should be done when bringing your camera from a warm house out into the cold? Does the change affect the inside of the camera or lens? Like fogging or condensation?

Another great episode but Loch Ness is the 4th largest body of water in the UK behind loch Lomond 3rd, and here in Northern Ireland lower lough Erne is 2nd and lough Neagh is 1st, volume of water doesn't count and that's why some are mistaken that Loch Ness is the biggest because it's so deep.
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
There are 2 ways to measure the size of a lake. The first is by volume and the second is by surface area. We chose the former. To say “volume of water doesn’t count” is like saying that Mount Everest is not the biggest mountain because from base to summit Denali Is bigger.

Hi Richard, welcome to the channel! If you go to our channel page and click on Videos you will see a list of all of the shows. Just make sure they are sorted by "Recently Uploaded" and they will be in order from newest to oldest. You can also visit mc2photography.com/photography-online and you can see all of the shows in order there as well.

PO is done so well. From Ruth and the specialist presenters there is sufficient depth to interest anyone from the photographer spectrum. Do you ever get to 'autumn areas' (for want of a better label) such as Glenlyon (particularly at its eastern entrance end) and Glen Affric? It must have been in this time of the year that Sir Walter Scott wrote, "Glenlyon is the longest, loneliest and loveliest glen in Scotland".
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexander. We did a feature all about Autumn in our previous show. Much of this was shot in Glen Affric. There’s little point in doing a location feature about it though, as there’s only 1 road, so it’s not really somewhere you need much help with. Not explored Lyon yet but it’s on our list. Thanks for watching.

@@PhotographyOnline Many thanks, PO, I will catch up on the watching! Apparently autumn is running a little late this year, a sudden cold snap is needed as the trigger.

Please tell Fuji that I’d like an Instax wide printer. We have the for Instax and Square, why not wide?
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Calvin. This film holder is made by Lomography, but it just uses Instax Wide film. I am not sure why there is no printer for it.
@DixonLu
@DixonLu 2 жыл бұрын
How do you use Instax to check exposure? Is it just a ball park test? Instax's light/spectrum sensitivity, contrast, latitude are so different from negatives. E.g. Instax Monochrome has high contrast/low latitude compared to Ilford HP5, that I sometimes have to over/under expose Instax to get the right look. Thank you.
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David. You are correct that Instax has way less latitude than film, but this makes it easier to use as a test exposure because if it’s correct on a narrow spectrum then it’ll surely be okay on a wider spectrum. The colour Instax seems to be a little wider.

I wonder if it would be possible to place multiple full frame sensors side by side, to make a large format sensor, similar to how they can stitch images from telescopes that are hundreds of metres apart...? 🤔
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. It’s a good idea but the join between the sensors would be the problem. Also the capture at the same time might need some thought. At the end of the day, it’s just easier to use film. Digital wouldn’t really have many advantages in a LF scenario.

Hi, A very sad day for me, as after stumbling across the episode "Why you shouldn't shoot in aperture priority" (guilty as charged) I have been hooked ever since, watching at least one episode a day of the last several weeks and now sadly I've caught up and I will have to wait for the next release to be published for my next fix. I have now graduated on to MC2 extra time but have you stopped doing these as the last one I can see is 3 months old?

Great video as always. Your country is beautiful and I love all the old ruins. I live in an area where it is very rare to find a man made structure over 100 years old. Loch Ness wasn’t on my bucket list but it is now. Thanks for the explanation about trespassing. I have often wondered about that.

Do they make digital backs that hold USB cards and such for the large format?
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Not that we know of Kevin. They exist for medium format but not for large format. Even the ones for medium format are only 6x4.5 at the most, so they are only the smallest of MF sizes. One day it might happen but it’ll be super expensive!

There were scanning backs for large format. They only worked for still life and landscape photography and are only available used now as far as I know.

How did you get the drone footage at Urquhart castle? There's numerous signs saying "No Drones" and despite being registered I wasn't allowed to fly anyway near the castle???
@PhotographyOnline
@PhotographyOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig. Firstly, a sign isn’t legally enforceable. Anyone can put a sign up, and anyone can ignore the sign. However, if the sign bothers you, then take off from the opposite side of the water and fly across! The owners of the castle don’t own the air around it, so they have no way to prevent anyone from using it. They can make a request, but cannot enforce it. We also filmed when they were closed so that no one was in the grounds (for safety of course).
