Thank heavens (see what I did there?) we didn't get a tide of Apollo deniers in the comments. As an eight year old, I will never forget watching Neil and Buzz taking those first steps in 1969. I've been hooked ever since. Magical times. Trained, as I was in traditional photography and graphic design at art college in the 70s and being an Apollo geek I could waffle on forever on this but don't worry, I won't. Getting old as a sixties kid has its compensations in terms of these memories! Well done Andy Saunders on carrying out this meticulous work with great integrity and well done all for an exceptional show!

The simplest response to Moon-landing deniers is to watch the lunar rover rear wheel. The dust coming off the wheel makes a perfect parabolic arch. That can only happen in the vacuum of space. Apollo 15 video demonstrates it beautifully.

I love the way that Andy Saunders addressed the digital versus film question, and having grown up in the age of Apollo, and of film, I find myself in complete agreement. While I am primarily a photographer who uses digital gear now, his statement, "digital can look quite clinical," sure wrung true with me. No matter how much work I put into almost any digital image, It's virtually impossible to recreate the genuine warmth of texture and tone that was possible with film. His work is extraordinary, and brought back memories of watching some of that great adventure in the 60's and 70's. Also, speaking about film, there really is a magic to a process that requires patience. Waiting for the results forces the mind to rethink the process and imagine the result. Digital certainly has its merits, especially considering cost and the ability to render extraordinary detail, but I feel that much of the magic has been lost in the translation. Your other features were interesting as usual. Looking at the photos submitted to The Surgery, got me to thinking about aesthetics and culture. Extending some of my comments about film versus digital, It is interesting how aesthetic values also change over time and reflect the society that define them. One things that I have noticed over the past decade or so, is just how heartily modern audiences react to and consume deeply saturated imagery. There is almost a cultish desire for super-saturated photos. It feels a little odd to me. In nature, there are only very very rare moments when reds and blues, for instance, approach those values. With time, I am becoming more and more fond of understated colours that reflect what I see as a more normal representation of nature. Subtlety is, I think, a undervalued quality in our fast modern world. Anyway, enjoyed the show as usual. Great work, and the Andy Saunders interview was brilliant!

Seeing these great photos so well presented in Glasgow Science Centre was a superb experience. Andy, himself, is an excellent communicator and speaker. I went straight home and watched Apollo 13, and subsequently ordered and read the book, The Lost Moon. A fascinating account for anyone interested in the Apollo programme.

The Apollo segment was for me a moving experience. Wow what attention to detail and how a photographic image can be recovered, restored or re-mastered for the modern day. I enjoyed the show very much. I don't think I will get to the moon, however I did find the tree hanging out of a lake bank in the lake district featured on a previous episode.

Great episode as usual. A quick tip on using an intrevalometer to shoot timelapses, use some sticky velcro on the back of it and your tripod leg. It saves it dangling around and causing camera shake if it hits the tripod.

I’ve been stitching the NASA Hasselblad frames into panoramic prints and the detail is amazing without much image optimisation! By the way a TRUE (old style mechanical) ‘cable release’ can still be used on our Fuji X-T series cameras!

Wow!!! In our family, as in so many others, the moon landing was the reason to buy a TV set. I was 4 years old and didn't exactly understand the significance in what was going on. But I can remember the excitement and anticipation, the feeling, a bit like Christmas, when we all sat in front of the screen. At first I thought, what's with the moon landing, I'm not interested. But then my husband watched it first and was thrilled - and then so was I. I should have guessed, that if it appears in your show, it must be something special ;-). It's really strong and so much is transported through the photos.

Another great show as always. I have added the Apollo book to my CHristmas list and hopefully I'll get lucky 🙂 I would like to mention another option for remote camera release in that many modern cameras have wifi built in and can be triggered by a phone app. I've used this to great effect as it not only allows reote shutter release, but also control over most (if not all) of the rest of the camera settings. This can be super useful when photographing wildlife, as you can set the camera and retreat to a distance, thus less likely to disturb the animals. The camera viewfinder can be monitored on the phone screen, and settings adjusted as required. It does impact battery life however, so this needs to be taken into acount. But it's still a gerat tool to have 🙂

Re: wireless/wired remote...canon has a app that enables you to take control and actually view whats on the viewfinder....not had any problems with it either.
