Most door handles I've seen are bi-directional, so preventing it from moving in one direction wouldn't work. And if it's a knob instead of a handle, you're pretty much limited to the wedge or the fork technique.

Yes, in the US they are normally bi-directional, but in Europe the doors will normally only open by pressing the handle down.Round door Knobs are also very rare in Europe.

2 Things. 1: Most houses have handles that turn only on the side you twist. So, chair doesn’t work. 2: A lot of handles can now be twisted upward, so you may need a second belt connected to somewhere low on the door. Otherwise, useful tips, great video!

Hey...if you're doing any of these things for protection, you might consider adding some great big wood screws through the mechanism plate into door frame. If someone puts a boot to the door with any of these things, the mechanism is just gonna get ripped right out of the frame. But if someone does that with some 3" wood screws in place, it'd give you a chance to flee.

This way is a bit expensive but if you got a couple of 20 pound dumbbell's you don't use on a regular basis, just put them on the edge of your door from the inside and put it in a T-shape against the side with the lock on it. That way if someone tries barging in, they can't really do that because there is 40 pounds of weight preventing the door from being forced open.
