Emma Angeline I’ve been reading „the address book“ by Sophie Calle. It’s super interesting and different. It’s short, entertaining and written like a diary entry which makes it feel v personal. Ps thx for the great book recommendations

You Should DEFENTLY read "The marriage plot" by Jeffrey eugenides. Its an Amazing and fun (but also a bit sad and deep) novel about an english lit student and her thoughts on marriage in lit vs her love life. But its not a simple romcom, it made me reflect about religion, science, lit. And movies. I LOVE IT!!!!

As an Igbo person whose parents and family had to live through the Biafran War, I was so happy to see that "Half of a Yellow Sun" was your chosen book for book club! It's such important history, and it was a pleasant surprise to see you talk about it in the video! Another novel by Chimamanda that I would recommend is Purple Hibiscus (a bildungsroman about the experiences of a teenage girl and her family growing up in a newly post-colonial Nigeria)~

I just love your attitude and charisma! There’s sth oddly satisfying about watching and hearing you that I can’t describe. Great video! Recently I had to keep an eye on my book spendings since there’s still plenty of titles that are waiting for their turn on my shelf. Currently, my reading leisure consists of Polish classics🥰

The Women’s Prize for fiction (formerly the Bailey’s Prize and before that the Orange Prize) was set up after frustrations about the lack of women shortlisted for the Booker Prize in the early 90s despite the fact that, in the same time period, the majority of books were written by women. Unfortunately, the idea of it being sexist (either against men by excluding them, or patronising towards women - something of a consolation prize - or both) has stuck with it through the years. I don’t believe it is a stretch to say it is intended to highlight the issues around ‘women’s fiction’ you bring up in this video.

Hey Emma! Some notes: I think quarantine showed us how precious stuff we already own is, cause we don't have to get it from outside. So if you buy books and you know you can't really go out and buy tons more again, you take advantage of what you have before buying more. What I find both enervating and intriguing is how basic consumer psychology is: we make choices on the basis of really simple factors. I have also tried to develop the habit of reading what I already own, unless I don't have anything that suits my current mood, and what I really enjoy is browsing my family's bookshelves when I'm at home. I find stuff that I wouldn't buy or notice myself but that ends up being enlightening or enjoyable for me. Things fall apart: read it during quarantine and thought it was very illuminating to see life from the perspective of a tribe member that sees their life literally falling apart as a result of colonialism, so definitely would recommend, though it wasn't my favourite read ever or anything like that. Can't wait for part 2!

I get really inspired and I order a bunch of books and then they are just sitting there. I promised myself that I will learn to pace the book buying, but I've never learned how to do it. I probably ordered thirty books this year. I only read about 12:)

the thing you said about not wanting to loose your time with easy reads... I. FELT. IT ! doesn't think it's snobbery though.. I see it as a very pragmatic view on life and its shortness. Or maybe a need to be challenged.. human emotions are soooo complex, I want to be able to understand the full scope !

Funny you mention it, my "project" for this year was to read, DNF, or declutter all the books I own that I haven't read yet. My goal is to only have about 10 at a time after this. I'm actually about 2/3 of the way through! But my progress has slowed dramatically lol

Uuuh another of your book videos 😍 I also ordered Bernardine Evaristo's one to read it! And I took note on the "Half of a Yellow Sun" hehe ty. I have "Americanah" also by Chimamanda N.A. at home, but it's still in the pile of books to read so I don't have an opinion about it. About the Devil Wears Prada hmm I've read it when I was a teenager and I liked it because I was interested in fashion world but I know that now I wouldn't finish it but maybe you enjoy it! At least you should try! I remember how much I wanted to do things after reading it because I had the feeling of constant productivity (and stress) the main character has 😂. Can't wait for your Sunday vlooog! PS. Anti-Jeff Bezos aktion here too

Your make up is amazing!! But also I wanna recommend looking into Australian history if you’re intrigued in British colonialism and the premeditated genocide of indigenous people in Australia is absolutely horrible (I’m a white Australian and we do learn about our history to a degree in schools). Oh and also on my current reading list is The Picture of Dorian Grey and the Witcher series! I’m trying not to leave them for ages but... yeah maybe a year? Maybe when I actually can find the first witcher book?

I've read some of The Devil Wears Prada and I was not a fan. The narrator's voice was super annoying. Maybe it gets better as her character develops, but I couldn't get past the first 100 pages or so.
