There's so much to take in here! I only started playing with piezos a few months ago, and YT wants to throw something like this at me?! The soundscape is immersive, layered, and intoxicating, with contributions from many ingenious implements. The box is beautiful, and it's a wonder to witness your wizardry with it. It is interesting to me the intriguing visual appeal these devices take on as amalgams of disparate elements chosen primarily for their acoustic properties. The tape loop and free-floating speaker are brilliant additions, and the entire ensemble of equipment is a fascinating thing to behold. This is both humbling and inspiring. Amazing product and production!

amaizng! I am trying to record sound from Guzheng chinese harp-like instrument with field kit. You think if I take the contact mic to the wooden frame of the instrument, it would have decent sound?
@DaFake3 жыл бұрын
Hey thank you ! Well I'm not familiar with this instrument but I would guess that it would work fine yes! Maybe with two piezo pickups, try to find some 50mm ones, you'll pick a fuller range. Then experiment to find the best emplacements !

What is the field kit doing here? I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around what it’s use is
@DaFake2 жыл бұрын
Here i use the field kit as a mixer to blend the noise box, the tapeloop and to also send the noisebox channel into the small speaker placed on the springs to create a feedback loop. It is also driving a solenoid motor triggered by the digitakt beat!

That's great. Thanks for sharing your work. I was waiting for your cat to attack the tape loop.. How did you get the Digi to control a motor?
@DaFake3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Well actually he did attacked the tape after the session ! I have to be very careful each time I do a tape loop because he always wants to eat it... And for the motor, i run the headphones output of the Digitakt into the envelope follower of the field kit, and then I patch the gate out into the CV/TRIG of the DC interface

Are the sound devices necessary? I want to build me one but those pre amps and guitar pedals people always use are expensive and I don't even know what that is on the far left there but it looks expensive too.
@secrecy_works3 ай бұрын
@Trtlman Novice noisebox builder here. I know this is a year late, but here's my two cents in case you are still wondering! You can run the line output straight into an amp without extra processing/FX, and it can be satisfying to experience the amplified vibrations of your noisebox creations "raw." The extra devices give you a much bigger playing field, a lot more ways to alter the sounds in intriguing and unexpected ways. I got a really basic effects pedal years ago when I picked up a cheap theremin to play around with, and I don't think it was more than thirty bucks or so. I think our friend's setup here has probably evolved over a long time, and as a beginner I find it both daunting and inspiring. I think you can get little practice amps that have some basic effects built in (echo, reverb, chorus, that sorta thing) -- might be a place to start if you haven't already. You can even get the piezos pre-wired to a jack, which I love because I suck at soldering. 😆

Trade that digi in for an Octatrack and get some Live recording loops (would suit this better) not insulting, just sharing information. This is phenomenal!

Could you maybe elaborate the settings for Channel 1. How did you programm the glitchy sound sequence? Is it randomized or programmed?
@DaFake3 жыл бұрын
For the channel 1, each step has a different sound, the beat is programmed but I've used the trig conditions to set différents amounts (%) of probability that they are triggered or not. So it is programmed but still has variations and a part of randomness
@jojojojojo1623 жыл бұрын
@@DaFake awesome! Thanks for the quick answer! I really dig the setup, the composition itself and the whole concept overall. Keep up the great work!
