Graeme, really appreciate your efforts making these films during the lockdown. You're keeping us all sane. I must say though I was wincing watching you working under that mower. Please, please leave the plug cap OFF when you're moving the blade. I used to service mowers professionally and it's surprising how little movement of the blade it takes to turn the engine over. You wouldn't be tying any more fishing knots put it that way! Not lecturing or being a keyboard warrior just looking out for a fellow fisherman, and one of the nation's favourite at that. Have a good BH weekend. We'll all have a bait in the water soon I think.

Good tip,thanks for passing it on .I always worked on the assumption that the "kill switch" bar release when you stopped the mower would prevent it from ever starting ? but I guess there might be old mowers out there with no kill-switch bar ?

@TAFishing4 жыл бұрын
Not heard that one,but he was obviously another person who did not like to see wastage. I often see skips with perfectly good timber thrown in,often new,presumably the client paid for it via over-ordering but I would have to save it for anything later on.

Thanks for replying Graham. His idea was that when working with wood you can never undo a cut. So 'keep the length of wood as long as you can for as long as you can' was like your phrase "measure twice cut once" :-)

The plug spanner has a swivel so you can put it at right angles to undo/do up the tight ones. Plugs should be hand tight + 1/4 turn to crush the washer or about 1/8 turn if tapered plug or washer already crushed by previous use, it usually states how much on the spark plug box. woodlice feed on rotting timber. Put a nail/ screwdriver shank through the bolt hole of the blade after grinding to check the balance as best you can, out of balance blade will cause vibration and shorten the bearing life. Excellent video as always Mr P. 10/10 . The only problem is I now feel guilty for not doing the same 😄😄

Balancing the blade seems like tip of the days as others have already mentioned it in comments below so its something I will try..Good excuse to play with the grinder again.

Greame. Woodlice do infact eat through the lumber. It might be worth trying a product called sikka woodworm treatment. Its pukka stuff! And doesn't just kill woodworm. Use it before you stain your oak. Works really well!👍🏼
@gulfstream72354 жыл бұрын
Jaysus Graeme you're making all us look bad with your endless jobs lol. P.s. after sharpening the lawnmower blade its a good idea to balance the blade to prevent vibration (easily done by hanging said blade off a nail in the middle hole position, if the blade remains horizontal its balanced, if it hangs down to one side just sharpen the side that hangs down again until it balances properly). Love the vids..keep em coming.

@@TAFishing the document I saw covered sea fishing as well , but it's typically vague regarding travelling distances. I have a beach close by but coarse fishing is not , the nearest coarse river is at least an hour's drive . 2m distancing in a shop you can use a bus , but 15m out in the fresh air on a beach or canal ! Who proposed the 15m? It's not just about fishing . This whole situation makes no sense whatsoever and is going to effect everyone in a big way if it continues ..

A couple of little questions for everyone. 1. I've got a boat rod that I'm going to buy rings for. I'm having a roller on the tip should I go roller all the way? 2. If I'm going to use braided line do I need to use special eyes on a rod? I've seen some pictures of eyes being cut through and want to avoid it. Stay safe everyone, we're getting there with this virus. 👍😷
@TAFishing4 жыл бұрын
Roller guides used to be all the rage years ago,primarily for fast running saltwater fish like Marlin,Tuna,Wahoo etc as it reduces line friction on the guides. I think the modern circular rings are pretty good at minimising that,but with rollers and braid,as that type of line is so fine it can actually jump between the roller wheel and side of the frame. Worth considering.

Walked past a lake today about 45min from my home and 4 pegs were being used. If the pegs are far enough from the path and each other and presuming the fishery is open, fishing is not a problem they said. Also no-one is checking what you are buying and if the shop is open and the shelves are full, you can buy anything off them. I'm only saying because you mention not being able to buy stuff because of lockdown. It's not social distancing that will get you in bother. Buy what you want or need don't imprison yourself when you don't have to.
@BenJamin-ny1kw4 жыл бұрын
@alanrtment porter it's in Lancashire. It's the first time I've ever seen the place to be honest as i was walking down some public right of ways. Gone past it a lot in the car but can't see it from the road at all so i didn't know it was there. A kid was even pushing a boat out. I also saw a guy walking a small river with a pole and all his gear on his back looking for somewhere to set up yesterday but this was only 20min from my house. The police can only tell you to go home or fine you if are in a crowd of more than 3 and not social distancing. If you are on your own and more than 2m away from the next person, you are following the guidelines that have been set. I think that's what people don't understand and what the police don't want you to understand. You can't get covid from a fish.
