It wasn't a bad show at all but the angsty teen stuff sometimes did get in the way of their decision making

I watched this over the weekend, it was a decent watch for me. Bode was my favorite character, I feel the mom was a little under developed. It starts off a little slow, some episodes could have been omitted . It really didn’t grab me until Ep. 3 or 4 . I had to shake my head and roll my eyes sometimes at some of the teenager stuff in the season..lol. I think one of the reasons I kept watching was because it reminded me of Chronicles of Narnia. I haven’t read the comics, but I’m hearing the comics is way better and there are way more keys than they showed in this season. So, I’m kind of looking forward to a possible season 2.

The comic has very little teenager/school melodrama as part of the story, which to me was the worst part of the show. The comic has a much darker tone and the bad guys are shown to kill a LOT more people. If you liked the show, I'd give the comic a shot.

Thank you for the heads up about Netflix series Locke & Key will be on my viewing list. May i recommend a miniseries currently on HBO based on a novel by Stephen king . The title is "The outsider", the series 1-10 episodes premiered on 1/12/2020. This past week was episode 6 and I'm at the edge of my seat to view what happens in episode 7.

I'm watching The Outsider too. I read the book a bit ago so I'm not as wholly into it as I could because of a couple of the changes. I'm an episode behind so I'm really happy to know it's a great one!

Great review! I really enjoyed this series especially towards the end! It didn't grab my attention initially but a few episodes in, I was invested for sure. Once I got to episode 5, I binged the rest back to back. I especially enjoyed the last 2 episodes. I really enjoyed each character and their performances, especially the daughter (even though she annoyed me many times) and the young son. The production value looked fantastic! I could handle the teen angst and occasional melodrama because the rest of the story kept my attention. I especially enjoyed the fantasy and darker horror elements. Overall, it surprised me in a really good way! I would give it 3.5/5 Oh, I loved that they ended with a twist and cliffhanger! It makes me more excited to see a second season if they make one! **Hopefully**

I'm hopeful for a second season also! Like you, I enjoyed the ending and was surprised that I got sucked in as the series went on.

Thank you for this review. I was curious about this show. The graphic novels are good. A bit more fantasy than horror, and I am more of a horror girl, but it has a lot of winks and nods to classic horror. I will check out anything by Joe Hill though. A graphic novel series that I would love to see adapted for the screen is The Fade Out or Criminal. I love Ed Brubaker's work.

Woah I have been looking for a new series and saw this one and I didn't know if it was good Ima probs watch it thanks and its clean too. But one graphic novel that should be a movie is called eden it is a scifi supernatural comic book made by a Christian band that is hard core rock and it is amazing.

The comic was darker in my opinion, I missed it a bit in the series.

Only watch this if you are doing something else at the same time. I watched most of it, but it is just so dumb (in a bad way). The acting is bad, all the actors are in their late 20s playing high schoolers, and all the high school scenes are stupid. I kept wanting it to be over but it drags on and on. The house and the keys are interesting but nothing else is. No one acts like a teenager and all the dialog is stilted.
