Locked Double Crochet for Overlay Mosaic Crochet. A No-Flaps Option!

Overlay Mosaic Crochet uses two stitches: a dropped double crochet in the front loop only and a single crochet in the back loop only (US terminology).
Whenever you do a dropped double crochet in the front loop two rows down (I shorten that to "dc" in my patterns - read the Key: ashleeslint.co...) you will be skipping the single crochet above it.
If you make a lot of these stitches in a row you create a bit of a flap on the wrong side of your project. This flap bothers some people and they like to lock it down while crocheting. There are a few ways we can lock the flaps down.
I prefer this method because it doesn't seem to squish the project as much. Other methods sometimes use a lot more yarn and compress things down too much.
I don't lock my stitches down, even with long stretches of dropped double crochets! I do lock my corner stitches down when I'm working from the center-out though.

Hello Ashlee ! First of all I want to thank you for share all your beautiful work! Now I am trying to ankle the dc stitches because my proyect makes large gaps behind, I am making this in all rows but it is loosing the rectangular form. It is “growing” to the right side as long as I crochet. Can you help me with this?? I’d like to send you a picture but I don’t know How in you tube. Thanks in advance, Kiss from Mexico

Sorry for the slow reply! You can't send pics on KZbin but I know what you're talking about. It's a common side effect when anchoring the stitches. It can also happen without anchoring just due to tension. I find it happens to my projects when I use a stiff yarn (like a really cheap acrylic yarn). The usual fix is an envelope border but I have one project that was so severe it didn't get fixed! So I suggest trying to adjust your tension and pulling your project into line every row.

I was looking for the follow-up, but for Tunisian. Did you hide it under a name I'm not seeing? I've tried grabbing various loops from the Tss row, but can't find the magic order or combination

I don't have a follow-up for Tunisian mosaic crochet. Locking those flaps with that technique is not something I've experimented with so I'm not sure what would be best.
