I have had deviation for years without understanding it. I have recently been working on it with other techniques. I tried this today on both sides, and I have recently discovered that with back molars resting together my left masseters are locked, probably from being pulled the opposite way for so long. The only way of opening which has been habit is for jaw to come forward so I haven't known what has been wrong for so long. So doing this on that side has helped relax locked masseter region a bit. So will be doing everyday to see how it goes. I use a wooden craft stick as I have found they have been a form a relief over years by jabbing them back inside to masseter but its probably not helped muscles in long run. So thanks for this.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. It took me a while to figure out how exactly to apply the pressure but once I did, it worked!! My jaw on the left side has been locked and while I wait for my appointment, this unlocked it! Thank you so much!

@@matthewhrndz I pressed down on the top of my head firmly but gently. With the opposite hand (I would use your right hand since it’s the left side of your jaw that’s locked) and dug my thumb (facing up) under my jaw (opposite side) and gently but firmly slid my jaw forward. I could immediately open it. I had to do it a couple of times after because it would lock up again, but eventually it went away. I hope you are able to fix your jaw!!

Did this with the the thick end of a zip tie and it worked 5-6 times so far. Still unlocked as of writing this just trying to keep my jaw in the right position to keep from locking up again

Short answer? Change the mechanics of the bite position through a removable orthotic, or orthodontics, or restorative dentistry, or surgery. That being said, even when you do those things, it doesn't prevent the disc from being dislocated. If the disc is already dislocating, it means the ligaments that hold it in place are stretched out, and the disc has likely lost its original shape and "thinned out" allowing the muscles to squeeze the condyle behind it. The structures provide the physical foundation for the habitual movement patterns. And the movement patterns affect the morphology of the structures over time.
