Stars do matter. The term stars don't matter comes from Bama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State etc. having HIGH 3 stars on their roster (high 3 star means you have NFL traits) Everybody on the team has NFL traits/NFL potential, which is why they say stars don't matter. Mid 3 stars (most of the B12) are players highly unlikely to play in the NFL, and whose family is happy they are getting an athletic scholarship.
@ThreadAndCircuses1Күн бұрын
@@Quawnn People don't understand recruiting rankings, it's a "potential" rating based on your size/frame/athleticism. The closer you are to NFL athleticism/frame, the higher your star, it really has little to do with skill/technique outside of QB and WR because 99% of incoming freshman have terrible technique. Mid 3 stars are players who 90% of the time won't have the size/athleticism to play in the NFL.

It’s getting better as BYU consistently does good as each season processes, but anytime it’s a power conference against another (lesser) conference (whatever that’s supposed to mean) the power conference will always get the edge or benefit of the doubt over the smaller conference / team. It’s messed up, but that’s bias for you.

Colorado has had this happen so often to its recruits since Prime arrived. The pernicious thing is that the media's perception of the Big 12 or the ACC's strength of schedule is directly influenced by these re-jiggered ratings. It works the other way, too. Outside of like maybe three teams in the SEC and one in the Big 10, the Big 12 would easily outcompete both conferences.
@heartbreak25Күн бұрын
Why did Colorado get blown out by Nebraska if they'd only lose to Ohio State? Utah is 1-5 against the B1G including 0-2 against Northwestern the last 8 years. Iowa State is like 2-10 against Iowa the last 12 games. WVU is 8-50-2 against PSU all-time. The current Big 12 teams have won a total of 2 natties in 50 years. At what point do the actual games matter?
@John-vp2jqКүн бұрын
@@heartbreak25 for consistency's sake, you should mention that Colorado also "blew out" Nebraska last year at its home field. Look it up; it was the exact same margin of victory. Did you consider that a blowout, too? I would consider the 2024 Big 10 as being carried by 2 proto-NFL teams, with a steep drop-off amongst the other teams. The Big 12, by contrast, might not have the top end that the Big 10 has, but its teams are FAR more competitive. Indiana and Penn State probably could beat more than four given Big 12 teams in a season, while outside of that, I am not sure where the Big 10 would pick up its wins from. Whereas, just as with Indiana lucking out with its conference schedule, the Big 12 would frankly make mince meat of the teams below the top third of the Big 10.
@heartbreak25Күн бұрын
@@John-vp2jq Cool. So Colorado is 1-1 against a barely bowl elegible B1G team? 😂 And that proves that all Big 12 teams can beat all except one B1G team? I don't care what you consider. You sound like ESPN talking about hypothetical match ups where SEC teams are undefeated. I'm talking about actual games played. In games where the Big 12 could've proved it this year the Big 12 came up short. Three alleged Big 12 playoff contenders couldn't beat Kansas. Illinois beat Kansas. Even though Drake Toll is right about ESPN not liking the Big12 in general, I just think ESPN specifically doesn't like BYU. Even though Utah wasn't invited to the B1G, the networks still have respect for Utah, Colorado and OSU even though OSU and Utah had horrible seasons this past year. IMO, after BYU's 10-2 season the powers that be made sure BYU was ranked nowhere near the top 12 for the CFP, let alone one of the finalist for the Big12 title game. You can bet if Colorado beat Kansas, it woulda been ASU and Colorado in the Big12 game.

I never knew player "ratings" were used when determining competitive schedule. That is crazy and must be stopped. I can understand that at some point a player or team can be reranked. Players that were lightly recruited (even walkons) later turn out better than 4 star rated recruits. At what point should they be reranked even if they stay on the same team. If this calculation is used to judge 'strength of schedule" then it has to be done and done fairly for everyone.

I know several people that stopped watching CFB this year. It will only get worse.

BYU needs to sue ESPN and bring this out, A lawsuit is the only way to bring out the corruption in the system. SEC will not sue, All rankings and strength of schedual should be computerized.

If we're being honest with ourselves, the non-power 4 teams get it much worse.

I smell a massive lawsuit brewing.

Ahh. As a BYU fan for many years, I'll just say we're used to this. This is one of the reasons why BYU has often had unforeseen success in football. There have been years in which our roster has been full of players who would have been high three and four star players, except for the fact that they signed with BYU. Often we would see their rankings drop once it became known they were considering BYU. Yeah, we're used to this. Just win the games on your schedule and most of this mess gets sorted out.

This happens ALL the time. Jackson Arnold was a 5 star at Oklahoma, had a bad season and was rated a 4 star when he transferred to AUBURN. SEC to SEC and a downgrade. It's NOT a Big 12 conspiracy.

Hitting the nail on the head. As a sooner fan, I have seen this for years. OU battles for a kid against big 12 schools and he is a 3 star. OU spots another talented kid, then Bama and Texas offer too, that kid is a 4 or 5 star. OU is a blue blood and this garbage happens to them too. That’s why we need ASU to beat Texas.

They do this to the ACC recruiting too

This has been happening to BYU for YEARS! LJ Martin was a 4 star RB when committed to Stanford. Flipped to BYU and was suddenly a 3 star, this is just one of many examples.

It works inversely too in their eyes , for some reason i noticed when a player was rated a 3star now declares or committed to a favorable school suddenly gets another star or a higher combined score.
