I think PJ looks really good attacking the rim off the kick outs, and he's a good finisher in the paint. I wish people would stop screaming that he needs to shoot corner 3s. Just let the man do what's comfortable and efficient.

@henryjegs1 I feel ya dude, but I would rather he go 5 of 11 from the pain and around the rim than shoot 2 of 8 from the corner. Without the lob this year, we gotta continue to find ways to get easy buckets. Luka will shoot better later in the season, Klay is already in mid-season form, and Ky is effective from behind the arc. QG looked good shooting last game, Hardy can get hot from 3, and Dinwiddie can knock them down. I feel like they need paint points more than they need more outside shooting...

PJ is looking great, his 3 shoot is still far from good and consistent but he brings a lot in defense and he is fleshing out his offensive game.

I'm thankful for Nick's reply clarifying Gafford's contract status. Cause the other day Slightly said something that got me thinking. He said that the Mavs haven't been impressive yet. I beg to differ but I do agree that I haven't been WOW'd by the Mavs yet. Not like OKC and Boston have wow'd me....and really, those are the only 2 teams that have come out and been like "holy shit, they're going to be a problem". But that's because they're 2 of the most cohesive teams in the NBA. Did the Celtics really make any moves? Feel like they just kept their own. OKC made a couple of moves but for role guys who should fit in fairly easily. And I feel like we're starting to see the chemistry on this team beginning to cook. Obviously Klay has fit in pretty well cause his job is pretty simple, stretch the floor and make his open shots. But the other new guys are taking some time. But everyone else? It's cooking. PJ looks a LOT more assertive in the offense...dropping pocket passes to Gafford, not shy to shoot it or drive it. Lively is doing more stuff on offense. Gafford is doing some post moves. And LuKai almost have a telepathic feel for each other. But man, PJ is having a really nice start to the year. Was active as hell against the Jazz and then was pretty big against the Wolves.
@ellieswagaye13 күн бұрын
you stated it perfectly, they haven't looked as thoroughly impressive as okc and boston which is to be expected since those teams made no significant changes that'd alter their play from last season. Now as for that category of teams who have made noteworthy changes in the offseason, there is a gap between dallas and any other team to me. winning convincingly in games where your superstar player shot poorly is such a good feeling. Its as though when it all comes together they'll be unstoppable, it already looks fairly unstoppable when they choose to double luka or kyrie. Another thing I'm loving is the defense, we heard that it would drop off but if it stays at this level im happy.

Doesn't have to. Just show up every now and then. They need to preserve his strength til playoffs. Same with kyrie. What the mavs need are the role players to step up - Grimes, Naji, Hardy, Dinwiddie, Omax(?). Luka's offense will always be there. He just needs klay to score at least 15+ per game and take over once in a while.
@PeterWilson-c3u13 күн бұрын

The supporting cast around Luka used to be so bad that he would need to put up 40pt triple-doubles to eek out wins against lottery teams. The past 4 games are arguably the worst 4-game stretch of his career & the Mavs are 3-1. Because he was so used to the team NEEDING him to carry the entire offense, he's gotten used to having to chuck his way out of a poor shooting night. Once he relizes he doesn't need to do that anymore, and instead decides to focus on playing good defense, rebounding & playmaking when his shot is not falling... He will become the unquestioned Best player in the NBA.

Love the podcast. One possible feedback here: Isaac, i see you speaking into your mic pretty far off axis. Sometimes you are not as easy to understand as Nick. I think it is partially because you’re speaking into the side of the mic. Are you doing that to avoid pops? I may be totally wrong here. But consider speaking more directly into the end of the mic as designed and see if it sounds more crisp. 😊 again I’m not sure. But worth a try?

One aspect I think people are overlooking with the Klay signing. Everyone is talking about how teams can’t double Luka… while totally forgetting that we WANT teams to double Luka 😂. I’ve noticed the Lob hasn’t been there like it was last season so far.

Partially on Luka, and partially teams are game planning against it because Dallas is more inconsistent from three.
@Velveteenvision12 күн бұрын
You want teams to leave Klay open and double team Luka all the time? So Klay would probably score more than Luka if he gets so many shot attempts. I don’t think Luka would be into that since he’s trying to win MVP

Huge props I wanna give Luka the his year and it all has to do with selflessness. From the eye test I would say he’s running less than 50% of the high PNR compared to the rest of his career and it isn’t been an easy adjustment for him but for the other players on the team it’s so huge. Good job superstar.

Thompson has stated his determination "to get rid of that notion that I'm not the same defender as I once was," and he's also off to a strong start on that end of the court. The Mavs have a 112.7 defensive efficiency with Thompson on the court this season (101.9 when he is off). -- MacMahon Correct me if I’m wrong but it appears Klay makes our defense worse. I think DG is starting so Lively can finish the game without worry of fouling out. Shot blocking centers can go from having 2 fouls to being in foul trouble in just a couple minutes. Better Gaff collect any early game fouls. But the switch will likely be made by midseason, IMO.

Team just needs to continue to build chemistry, stay healthy and let Luka get in game shape. Chemistry so important to understand how to play with your teammates and how to picik each other up and hold one another accountable, staying healthy obvious. Luka shape, he hasn't played meaningful game since Olympics qualifying games so his legs & endurance simply is not there after 4 games. My biggest disappointment so far is not his poor shooting % as he's shooting terrible from free throw line, 2 point and 3 point range but his crying to the refs and getting 2 technicals in 4 games. Absolutely acceptable from your top player. Kidd grow balls and sit his ass if he's pouting like a 10 year old.
