Did you ever have to maintain a fleet of these over-complicated, finicky birds that needed a lot of TLC. The best thing that could be said was they provided job security for a lot of maintenance people. I was glad to see the last of them leave our fleet many years ago.

What does Grumman do with this aircraft? Is it their corporate jet?
@Hummerbird993 ай бұрын
Launches rockets to space. Mostly small sattelites. It carries the rocket under the belly, releases it at 45,000 ft. the rocket ignites and goes into space.

A TriStar l1011 was the best aircraft I've ever flown on. Why did they take them out of service
@SonorGeek053 ай бұрын
Getting too expensive to maintain and it was a maintenance hog. One of the mechanics at a major airline I work at had worked on them when they were still in the fleet. If memory serves correctly he said that there would be at least 10 people on one L-1011 and hardly anyone else on the other planes because it was a pain in the butt to work on due to the design almost always dissimilar metal corrosion. Also really don't need 3 engines anymore since engine technology has advanced overtime. It's really becoming rare to see 4 engine jets now.
