To be fair though, this will stop 99% of attacks (even if they have knowledge of this possibility) because not that many people are going to just have a perfectly bent pick in their field kit. I mean to be fair to them, for a 15 dollar lock, it's pretty good that the only way to decode it is with a weird pre prepared tool and you still have to be quite good at decoding. So keeping in mind the physical strength of the shackle, I'd say it's fine for low to medium security situations and honestly I would definitely buy one

@@zagreus5773 the original point this person was making was that LPL used a "weird pre prepared tool". All he did was bend a shim so it would touch something. Doesn't need that much expertise or precise machining. You can do it with your hands in a few seconds.
@Chrisamic
@Chrisamic Жыл бұрын
@@jjmarr7130 Remember that Harry makes this stuff look crazy simple and quick. Not one in a thousand enthusiast locksporters could hope to do this so quickly, and not one in a million deadbeat oxygen thieves would have the ability to learn the skill. The main way of defeating something with this lock on it would still be an attack on the door hardware, an angle grinder, oxy-acetylene torch, or a sledge hammer. LPL can pick stuff on camera in one minute that professionals struggle with and are defeated by every day. Still pretty good for a cheap combo lock.

@@mal2ksc But when the "non-destructive" method becomes more work than the destructive one, the lock has won. Locks are never 100% secure, but are a deterrent and the soldering option would definitely make it not worthwhile to open non-destructively. And if you're thinking of a thief, who wants to get to your stuff without you knowing that the thief went there, you're gonna know when your stuff is missing anyways. And if it's not stuff you're protecting, then a simple tamper seal will do the job of making sure if someone's been there.

Used to install and set up Visionline as a subcontractor for Assa Abloy. On one job, the installers putting the locks on the hotel doors had to bust the door open, as the lock had died and we couldn't power it externally (for those who may not know, with the right tools you can power RFID locks from a laptop for a short amount of time, usually just enough to open the door). They showed me a stupidly simple way to break the door open that just requires a drill and a bit of precision. I'm no longer under an NDA, so I can tell you all! A door with an Assa Abloy RFID lock has 2-4 weak points. If the RFID reader is not directly connected with the handle via a metal plate, there are 2 weak points, where as handles with the reader and a metal plate have 4. Take a drill with a 1/8th drill bit (preferably titanium bits as you will be drilling into steel). Drill directly above, below, and, for the full locks, to the sides of the door handle, through the metal into the door itself. After drilling through, you should take a rubber mallet and smack the handle to the floor (may need a hammer depending on how deep you drilled). Once the handle is removed, you should see a bronze/copper bar sticking out, use the mallet to smack that bar into the hotel room, this removes the other handle. Taking a decent sized flat head screwdriver, insert it where the bronze bar was, all the way until you are through the middle part of the lock chassis. Twist the screwdriver in the direction opposite the handle placement, if the handle is on the right, twist left, and vice versa.

@patheddles4004
@patheddles4004 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Enigma wasn't cracked per se. It was replicated, and they got very good at figuring out the daily keys. And even that took a huge effort. Given an Enigma message without knowing the key, it's still almost uncrackable even with modern crypto technology. In other words, Enigma was actually a brilliant system.
@MikkoRantalainen
@MikkoRantalainen 2 жыл бұрын
Enigma was practically just brute forced daily because German military only swapped code rotors instead of also rewiring the front panel. If German military had used fully randomized keys including all rotor options and front panel wiring plugs, the Allied powers wouldn't have been able to brute force the encryption. So basically the failure of Enigma was poor key management. The key management is also the weakest part of most modern day encryption systems. By modern standards the algorithm used in the Enigma wouldn't be good enough but it was very good for the machines of the time.

hi LPL! First of all, thank you for your content! Because of your videos i developed an interest for lockpicking. I recently ordered a beginners set with 2 clear training locks and bought 2 padlocks and today they arrived and i had a go at it myself. I've really enjoyed myself, the satisfaction of opening a lock for the first time (and even every consecutive time felt great), but i also enjoy finding locks that i can't open (at least yet) and keep challenging myself. One of the bought ones i opened pretty quick, the other one i have yet to open. It looks very easy when you do it, but actually feeling what i'm doing, always knowing what pin im on will take quite a lot more practise :) I guess what i wanna say is thank you for bringing me to my new hobby with your greatly presented videos, please keep up the great work. PS: btw i actually did open one of the bought locks, i did not just play an episode of LPL putting the sound loud when he says "This is the LockPickingLawyer" so the lock would just open out of fear.

Let's be honest, someone as skilled with thier hands as LPL can really remember what the number is before turning it away and then count the number of times they rotated each cylinder, thus not making it random while looking like it was random (free choice of card when it really wasn't a free choice of card). I'm not saying he does that. In fact, as a lawyer he would lose all credibility of he was counting and saying it was random. I'm just saying he's smart and dexterous enough to be capable of it, and him turning the code wheels away does not eliminate the possibility of him knowing the code before he starts to decode it.
