I heard you need to do a few long runs a month to stop the DPF clogging up. I expect you do quite short trips, low revs, working locally around Brighton. Maybe put some more dpf cleaner in, use the M23, drive up to the m25 turning and come back down using high revs occasionally

Hi Andy, you may have stumbled on something there, I have changed a few ERA 45 gearboxs recently in composite doors, and i have noticed that they felt a bit odd when lifting the handle but only when its in the door and fine when it was either not in the door or when it was not connected to the rail, originally thought it was the dead lock hole being to tight in the rail but filling it out made no difference, then i thought it was the length of the little screw possibly causing issues with the strap. I spoke to a different locksmith, and he said it would be worth checking the u-shaped channel that the mechanism pips for a better word sits in were not bent out of shape due to the customer trying to force the handle to get it to lock or unlock when it was broke. Upvc not had a problem with just composite doors! Obviously, they are wood, so the hard plate will be putting pressure on the internals, tbf I did not notice that the lock was any tighter in the hole when I put it back in. You didn't rub your eye with your fingers when you had some gta on them, did you? Also, I had a new R6 that i bought to test out the new lishi pick i bought, and 3 of the 5 keys would not go in one side of the lock, but we're as smooth as on the other side?

100% in a timber door it the width buddy. It squeezes the lock case causing a problem!! Just a cheeky little shave down the sides with a sharp chisel and you’ll be good brother 👊🏼

with the thumb turn profiles it can trick people using the key from outside, that you might have to turn the key an extra turn to sync the cylinder and thumb and get it to pick up the cam. people often stop turning the thumb turn as soon as it locks or unlocks, leaving it out of sync. So they might think it is a problem that it sometime turns 360 and other times 720 to work

Looks like you've got a stye in your eye. Those horizontal mortices are my most hated job. Back in the day when they were popular the manufacturers would make them in their own unique sizes so if one failed then you'd have to buy the same make. Nowadays they only seem to make them in a couple of different sizes and a lot of customers aren't too keen on having extra holes put in their vintage doors. What makes it worse is the decades of landlords painting their screws and hardware with the thickest white paint they could find! The same thing happened with my van. I had a busy day and was driving out quite far for my last job when the van went into 'limp home mode' on the bypass. I managed to get it into a garage and sorted that day and it only cost £550. They flushed the whole system through with acid and other chemicals and I drove out of the garage like I'd stolen a Ferrari.

Yo Andy, How’s it going mate? Afew years ago you mentioned on a vid about your experiences regarding Auto, i cant find it? I’m considering going in that direction after a gap in the market opened up around my area. Thanks Steve 👍
@brighton_locksmith Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve. All good here thanks bud. Hope you are well too. My only advice regarding Auto would be to make sure you do a decent course. I did an online course during Covid which gave me the basic knowledge but I found out fairly quick that I was out of my depth with some jobs. So, do some research into courses (MLA, Fox Locks in Birmingham, Darbys in Hastings) are some that I’ve heard are good for auto mate. A gap in the market can only be good news 😁 Oh, and expect to spend upwards of £20K for the equipment 😬

I had a customer once who thought it would be a good idea to use graphite powder in the lock and ended up filling the lock with graphite powder so bad that you couldn't stick the key in all the way obviously causing a lockout maybe that is what happened with your first job😊
