Fixing broken things sometimes requires an adhesive. I’ve found LOCTITE’s HY4070 Adhesive to work very well for repairing all kinds of things. I’ve used it on plastic, metal, even rubber, and it’s worked great. So if you’re looking for an adhesive, I recommend checking out LOCTITE’s HY4070.

When it comes to those plastic castings and bumpers it’s ALWAYS advised to use a piece of old window screen on the back that spans well past the cracked area. Also stop drill the end of those cracks so they don’t continue spreading. I actually prefer burning the screen right down into the back side using a soldering iron or wood burner . Then you know it’s not going anywhere. Push down until the melt rises up through the screen then smear it a bit and move on. It acts just like rebar with a concrete slab.👍🏻

This method is so good that it actually works for heavy stuff too. I've several marble pieces repaired, where the thickness of the material just isn't enough to support the glue job in time, it will fail. So the back has a carbon fiber mesh, well slathered in the same glue. It's actually stronger than the OG piece, to the point where i've had a customer ask me to repair one again, where it broke right after the weave ended.

That stuff is great! I'm a BMW technician and they have a BMW adhesive called K-6 it's made by Loctite, it's really good. I use a blow gun to get whatever glue is still in the nozzle out. It's probably the best adhesive I've ever used.

Blow gun? You’re able to get the glue out of that tiny nozzle?
@phaqmann
@phaqmann 2 жыл бұрын
@@DIYtryer yeah I remove the nozzle from the glue, put the blow gun, I use a Snap-on AT4101, on the tip of the nozzle and a rag on the side that goes onto the glue and blow it out, works every time. As long as the nozzle goes into the tip of the blow gun I'm sure it'll work it doesn't need to be a Snap-on blow gun

It looks like it could be pretty handy. Over the years, adhesives have advanced a great deal. Sheet metal patches can now be glued on rather than having to weld them which is excellent because it eliminates the possibility of warping the panel during welding and coatings on the back side of the original panel are preserved. Thank you for the video.

That’s great that you don’t have to worry about using it right away or it clogs up. The one thing I hate about tubes of RTV is that the plastic caps tend to crack and the RTV cures. I wish they made aluminum caps to replace the plastic caps.
@HeimoVN
@HeimoVN 2 жыл бұрын
Another thing I have found about RTV is that it is a moisture cured material, so I keep mine in the freezer, and thus far I have not had a problem with it curing in the tube since the humidity at sub zero temps is extremely low.

I push a 3” nail of the same diameter as the hole into the nozzle and screw the cap on over it. Next time I need to use it, pull out the nail and … no plug.
@allertschallenberg1857
@allertschallenberg1857 2 жыл бұрын
I find that in general, a tube of RTV does a great job of sealing itself. Make sure you leave a little bit sticking out when you store it, so you can pull out the cured 'plug'. Works fine. But why are we discussing RTV here?

After watching you explain this special adhesive shortly after you posted this video, I bought some and used it, with no backing reinforcement, to glue together a vertical 6" crack in the bumper of my 2010 Expedition, which we purchased new. I couldn't avoid hitting a dog which had wandered onto the Interstate a few months after we bought the Expedition, and it had been broken for more than 10 years. It's been more than six months since I glued that crack together, and it's still holding. At room temperature, it usually sets enough for my purposes to hold in 5 to 7 minutes(in one case, I added more after having to flex the glued-joint after 10 minutes, which it did not like, but adding more saved me from having to completely re-do a window regulator replacement job), but like my other favorite, the Original JB Weld (JBW has a 24 hour cure, but requires 3-5 days for the best and strongest cure over any other product available to consumers) the longer it cures, the better it will work. Thanks Eric for bringing this special adhesive to our attention. Viewers, if you buy this(I've only seen it on Amazon), buy more Loctite-brand mixing nozzles at the same time, unless you are organized enough to line up all your glue-up projects in one place at one time, and continually and quickly keep on gluing up a bunch of different things all at one time before the glue in the nozzle hardens. Helps to clean the surfaces to be joined with 95% Isopropyl Alcohol (strong rubbing alcohol w/o the dilution from added water), acetone or heptane, or Permatex spray-on Surface Prep, and let them dry before applying the good stuff.

Thanks for making us aware of this product. Please post some kind of crude test of its bond strength to plastic. The technical datasheet (Henkel website) for this product lists excellent strength test results for things like aluminum & steel, and several plastics (ABS, PVC, polycarbonate, phenolic), and nitrile rubber. I did not see anywhere that Henkel specifically says it gives high bond strength to low surface energy plastics, such as the TPO fascia you bonded. This makes me very suspicious that it would give high, long-lasting bond strength on things like polyethylene, polypropylene and TPO.

The HY at the beginning of the part number indicates this is in the line of "Hysol" epoxies which were originally created by Dexter corporation for aerospace industry. Once bought by Henkel in the early 2000s they added hysol as a premium adhesive line to their already existing lines. This product (HY4070) is not an actual epoxy however it is a 2 part hybrid of cyanoacrylate(super glue) and acrylic. Which brings up another issue. Henkel/loctite has added so many products over the last 2 decades that it is literally hard to keep track of their catalog. Especially since adding their "construction grade" into the big box stores. Of course their automotive grade was always the Permatex line up until 1999 when they sold permatex and added a competing automotive grade packaged for the parts stores. Their longest running "industrial grade" covers marine, military, medical, nuclear, aerospace and general science. These are usually indicated with the 3 or more digit part number printed on the face of the bottle in large print. The industrial grade can often be 2 to 3x the price of auto or construction grade.
@dannyreme
@dannyreme Жыл бұрын
Tyrone this actually means Hybrid, the hybrids are a range of products that were developed to provide the properties of different adhesive technologies whilst keeping H&S as good as possible. LOCTITE HY 4070 is a hybrid of cyanoacrylate (super glue) and Methacrylate (acrylic) so you get the speed and strength. HY 4090 is a hybrid of Epoxy and Cyanoacrylate for example. The really are a great range of products.
