Jerry needs to hire new designers. Just as Kanye brought in former Nike and New Balance designers to Yeezy, notably Steven Smith who created the Yeezy 700s, Jerry should do the same. He needs to shake up his offerings and release a variety of products with better-adjusted pricing.

@db-fc5fi3 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree, killed collabs in general. The whole point of collaborations used to be getting a design by a cool designer for basic sportswear prices with more medium priced brands like Nike and adidas and H&M etc. Somewhere along the way hype culture ruined that inflating the prices with reselling businesses and retailers and manufacturers saw that and how much money was on the table being made by people other than them and decided they wanted in and prices skyrocketed.

How many pairs of sweatpants does anyone really need?
@TalksWithTJ3 ай бұрын
Paul, to your point on 6:40 I don't think most people can justify that for suit separates or menswear if there isn't a setting for it so the value makes sense. Mainline has gone away from every day pieces such as 4th and 5th collection that were very wearable. Even 6th and some 7th. I realized even after picking all of the items up on discount that I did, I likely wouldn't spend that money the same now. Someone also had a great callout here in the comments, many individuals that were long time fans of Essentials have a closet full of sweats/hoodies/crewnecks in a range of colorways that hit every need they have...how many sweats do you need after a while? If I even think of buying new sweats or a hoodie, I am looking to move something out so it doesn't become more crowded than it is now. Timing and covid will always plague Jerry for FOG Athletics being announced 2 years too early. The assumption they would be Essentials tier pricing and not just below mainline also is a deterrent, and most of us aren't paying $300 for a pair of sweats "intended for performance", and likely not even leisure wear.

I believe the situation was unfavorable for Jerry, and he also misjudged the circumstances. Regardless of whether Jerry intended to be seen by Adidas and the public as the successor to Ye and Yeezy, that’s how he was perceived, and his brand wasn't suitable for that role. Moreover, Jerry took an unusually long time to release this collaboration, which hurt him significantly. The prolonged wait allowed excessive hype and expectations to build around the brand, making it impossible to meet people's expectations when the product finally launched. Additionally, Jerry needed to price the Fear of God x Adidas collaboration in a way that wouldn't compete with Mainline or Essentials, and he did so. However, the sticker shock is still real. In the end, if this collaboration does not succeed, I place most of the responsibility on Jerry for poor timing and pricing. But time will tell.

Liked a lot of the pieces but the price point was a bit silly up here in Canada. $350 for the 1 sneaker. Everything is seemingly reselling but it did take forever to come to market.
@karlsuisun3 ай бұрын
Honestly, I don’t think pricing is the main issue. It never has been with luxury and hypebeast fashion. Sneaker game seems dead rn and prices have been good for buyers. I think the main culprit is the shift in style preference. Ever since the Zegna collab, FOG in general has shifted more toward that look. Jerry is almost 50 and doesn’t care about catering to the younger fanbase. Clearly, his vision suits a different clientele. I def can’t afford his “vision” but I love the direction of the company.

for me, there is no 3rd collection or FOG3 until the 2nd collection. the first drop lost most of the target audience, this 2nd collection's audience is anyone that still cares and if it doesn't HIT hard, there isn't going to be anyone left to be interested in a FOG 3 collection especially if it's coming out so far out from now. i already know the design isn't going to blow me away, it all comes down to the pricing honestly

I think Jerry is in a conundrum with FOG Athletics because his fan base bought up so many pieces since the FOG Essentials core collection which means the main audience for FOG Athletics already have all the pieces they need. I can afford FOG Athletics but I don’t need them because I have so many pieces from FOG Essentials. I’ve bought all the shoes and will continue to because they go well with the FOG Essentials I already have.

The issue is that Jerry is more focused on the quite luxury esthetic with a few stand-out pieces, and many of the designs are boring. When it comes to adidas, he tried to copy the same format he did with nike, which just did not work he just needs to scrap everything and start over with more fresher ideas and hire younger desginers.

FoGA still feels like a delayed endeavor with terrible pricing and very frustrating concept. It's impossible not to look at the items without viewing them as Essentials pieces, a brand that is slowing losing its appeal. I guess, more than anything, people had expectations that FoGA would be THE FoG take on performance wear ("Athletics") but ended up getting more comfy / loungewear that they already had. Looked lazy and underwhelming IMHO (although I was pretty impressed with the quality of the only piece I got, I'll recognize that).

I can only assume people are thinking this because the hype either isn't insane (and people that know FOG think it needs to be) or because it hasn't sold as much as Yeezy (and people that know FOG constantly compare it to Yeezy and mentioned Kanye when I don't think he's remotely relevant to it anymore) I thought it was funny that they said FOG prices were too high with Adidas. They're cheaper than Y3 who Adidas have been collaborating with for probably 20 years now. The FOG Adilette slides were about the same as all Adidas luxury Adilette slides, Y3 slides are double the price! Where's the hype for Y3, most people who go on about Yeezy don't even know about Y3. Adidas has also had over a decade of collab with Stella McCartney, also expensive and not much hype.

Let’s be honest here. 1. If you can’t afford the fog athletics lines no sense in crying about it. That’s why essentials exists. If you don’t like essentials either and think it’s overpriced, 🙄well you probably shouldn’t follow the product lines and stop whining about it. Go back to shopping at second hand stores or the Gap FFS. 2. FOG’s luxury line is obviously very expensive, so the adidas collab fits perfectly between the two tiers. One look at other collabs adidas does with other brands should make it obvious that it is in line pricewise with most everything else being sold on CONFIRMED. Most design studio lines are this way, and wouldn’t even exist if there wasn’t any degree of hype or excitement for their new upcoming capsules. The quality, fit and finish of these collab pieces is outstanding and comfy as anything I saw from Kanye’s collabs over the past decade- not that it matters. 3. Jerry doesn’t really need Nike or Adidas. But it does bring attention to his brand. It should have similar features and design language- since his dna is all over all 3 pillars of his company. I love the collabs and hope they don’t end. But if they do, it’s nice to know he can do his own athletics line without them, and perhaps that will bring the price point down enough to make it more attractive to more consumers.
