Many women birth like this when they are calm, not full of fear and tension and full of faith. It takes focus to relax during contractions and let go of the worry. Also waiting for the body's natural ejection reflex to kick in is the way it was designed to happen. Going by someone else's directions isn't really a great idea unless there are problems and you're trying to speed things up. Also things like good diet, hydration, breathing etc play a part in whether the body can function how it's supposed to at the time

A fast labor is not always good your body needs time to stretch and relax in the right places so a fast labor some times can cause more tearing, not to scare you , but a long labor also sucks i was in labor for two days because i had to be induced. I had absolutely no fear with my first, took Bradley classes, had a certified nurse midwife, and was already 2 cm dilated at 28 weeks with painless contractions every 5 minutes for 3 months. I thought the kid was going to fall out. When real labor kicked in, it was the most painful thing I’ve ever endured. It felt like someone was hacking my back open with an axe and then pushing felt like a someone jackhammering a bowling ball through my vagina, then splitting me open like a turkey on thanksgiving. I never wanted any drugs and didn’t have any, but he was posterior (back of his head pressing against my spine). That child is a grown adult man now and I will never forget the pain. I pushed in every position, squatting etc for 3 hours. Didn’t tear thankfully. My next baby was much more tolerable like I had imagined labor would be ( like a knife stabbing me in the pubic bone. SO much better LOL!!!)
