Thank you for showing your yearly makes. It's a great idea to go back and review how things went and what you would change. For the mal-formed but cute fabric onesie- you could cut the legs off and leave it as a tee-shirt for a future baby.

It will get easier, finding time. Mine are 9 and almost 7, and I’m finding the peace of mind finally again. 😅 congratulations on the baby! Veel geluk en gezondheid gewenst

I have two sons, nearly 3 and 1, and I also find it challenging to sew these days. My husband is sweet and will field them for an hour or two while I work on a project here and there, but I am looking forward to getting back into it more when they’re a bit older and less needy. Thanks for showing us all the beautiful things you’ve made this year - I’ve been sewing for a long time now and still learning about the little things that make a garment wearable or not for me.

Well done for keeping your hobbies and work going with a little one, my daughter is 3 nearly 4 and I feel like I'm just starting to get back into the things I like xxx

My mother sewed and wore maternity skirts just like that! The maternity tops were quite generous and long. I believe these maternity blouses could have box pleats in the back to ‘let out’ as needed. Then they could be returned for the recovery.

Oh, what a clever idea with the box pleats! Too bad my maternity days are probably behind me or I’d have utilized that technique in some blouses.

I wonder with the small, finicky baby patterns, if they would be eaiser to hand sew. Which sounds wrong, but I wonder.

I’ve hand sewed a few baby garments and they do come together quickly (for hand sewing). Much easier to manage a teeny armscye that way.

Thanks for the video! The goose overalls maybe require jersey/knit bias tape/bindingwA lot of store bought clothes of this type have binding. But the good thing is, it’s possible with a zigzag stitch on a normal machine?

So, I don't know if history inspires you, Lucy, but I know my interest in beautiful utility stems from MY love of history. For most of human history, most people made the things they needed. And skills were passed down. This process creates a whole host of micro-histories and human connections that we are losing. HAve you watched Lark Rise to Candleford? Watch the episode about the peasant ladies making lace and how machine made lace snuffed out an ancient practice overnight (this episode had me sobbing)... but really, how the removal of all these things so quickly I think has restructured society in not-so-good ways. I think it's created more generation gaps, and triggered a sad disgust for older people who no longer pass down skills and know-how and virtue. When you read older books, that really reflect how people lived, their lives revolved around the needs of daily food, water, energy, cleanliness, clothing construction, light, etc. but there is all the human connection of those things too. The seasonal rythms of agriculture, the wintertime knitting of socks and mittens, the spring time foraging for new greens and leeks, and things like sassafrass and all the small adventures and misadventures folks had in accomplishing them. I think we as a society are lacking these REAL things and try to satisfy ourselves with fake replacements.

I love this! Is there a link to the pink knitted cardigan?
Our sons should be about a month apart I was due in June. It's been a long year of grief for me after losing him at 14 weeks pregnant I barely sewed anything at all.

Is there a pattern for the "chain mail" cardigan?

You could take the arms and legs off of the baby outfit
