...but that PEAR!! Good morning! I so appreciate you sharing your yard which is quickly becoming a proper "garden"... SO lovely! I live in the southern California desert just outside the entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park - the beauty here is unparalleled but I must say, I miss the lush green colors I used to be able to nurture, so I'm living vicariously through you right now. I'm excited to see how things grow and I'm hoping you'll continue to show us around as your efforts pay off. Thanks again for sharing. Hugs, MK 🤗❤️🌵❤️🤗

That sounds awesome! Would you mind explaining how you assembled it? :o
@anieth
@anieth Жыл бұрын
@@reeda5390 Hi, I didn't really have to assemble it, as in put screws or something. I stood the pavers upright, digging down, so that they were braced against the flat pavers before them. As if the pavers turned upright. If you need to put ends on the "beds" (I did mine in a long line) put the ends on the inside of the longer rows of pavers and just bury them. It seemed to work to have about 1/4-1/3 of the paver buried. Since your pavers are so large, you would have a deep bed for plants. I also have open ended beds with pavers that just slope down naturally and used some rocks to round them out, like a large "U" shape. I find with gardening with what you have, you move things around and experiment. But yes, those pavers would make fabulous uprights for a bed. They will be sturdy if you dig down, so the patio in front can keep them upright, especially when the soil gets wet in the winter. The raised beds with drain faster and hold in the heat.

Yeees! Violets are perennials, they have a rhizome not a bulb but they will continue to come back i found a patch under my walnut tree and my goal is to let them take over my whole yard! (Also they're edible! So take your cakes to the next level!) I was super glad to hear you were focused on native trees! My plant/gardening journey started when we bought our house. I realized I could name every car driving past us on the street but none of the plants i was stepping on in my own yard. It has been a wonderful journey thus far and I never cease to get a thrill when I see something new and learn about it.

I live in California and Ceanothus is native here. In fact, it's one of the best things you can plant here to support pollinators. It's perfectly adapted to drought and poor soil, so tip for growing Ceanothus successfully- not too much water, and don't ever fertilize them.

Some facts about it; Lily of the valley is the national flower of Finland and it's poisonous so if you have kids you have to teach them to leave the flower and its berries alone. I can remember that there were a lot of lilies in the woods near my childhood home and I was taught to not touch them

The 5 plants with tiny white flowers from the pack that you put along the ivy wall look to be Lily of the Valley. They smell AMAZING but will try and take over that entire section of ground if you let them! They’ll come back every year and will spread each time. When the flowers are done, the pretty green leaves last all summer and autumn until it freezes. Makes for beautiful little flower arrangements💕

Lovely to see your garden take form. I would be a little bit cautious about the lupines in the purple flower mix. The name on the package seem to be a ok spicies, but the picture is of the types of lupines that are classified as invasive where I live. So depending on how things are where you live, be prepared for them to possibly wanting to take over your whole garden.

Very pretty! word of warning, depending on where you are, those lupinus in the mix box of seeds migth be somewhat invasive. I do not know the details in species, but a version of them have gone somewhat wild where I live. They generally grow in thick patches and pretty much choke out all other plants in the area where they grow. Each little flower creates a seed pod with multiple seeds so one flower can become a thicket pretty fast. Very pretty when they all flower but not so good for native species or perhaps for giving the other flowers in the garden an honest chance.

Hello loepsie, I admire your passion for nature and gardening (which I completely share), and you garden is charming! But please, do not take offence if I permit myself give you a piece of advice. In my opinion, you plant the plants too close to each other. For example, viburnum, when it’s grown up, can be about 3-4 metres high and almost as large. And the planter where you’ve put jasmine doesn't have enough room for lavenders, for they aren’t small either. So you’ll have to constantly prune and trim the plants. I’m saying that judging by my own experience; when my garden was “young” it seemed to me that there’s a lot of empty space, so I added more plants, without thinking of how big they’ll grow. If you feel like you need to fill in empty spaces between the perennials before they grow up, it might be a good idea to think of annual plants that will keep the garden in bloom. And also a little tip for the hydrangea. Some species can change the colour of their flowers, depending on the type of soil they grow in. In acid conditions they flower lilac or blue (vice versa, in alcalinous soil they are pink). So you might try adding some peat around you hydrangea and see how it will react. I wish you tons of good luck and I will be happy to watch your other videos! You’re a great person and I respect you a lot!
