Great knife perfect for BC Canada hiking ,fly fishing,you cannot beat british army training .Everything I learned I use very time I am in the bush and the bush here is right outside your doorstep,or your car door.

I think this machete was taken from the CRKT Half chance, designed slightly different and a name put to it for sales. The fact that they are numbered for collectors say it all. Towards the end lofty had to stop himself from saying, "I'm really proud to put my.......... (name to it)". I took this as, he was approach by this company with a design, he added to it and gets a percentage of sales.

Great vid. Almost agree with last commentator that 'Who Lofty Wiseman' is should have been shouted, but, A: All serious Survival-military-bushcraft people already know him well.B; It I obvious he isn't just 'an elderly gentleman repeating himself about a machete' since he describes 40 year experience in the Jungles of the Far East.C; He obviously speaks from intimate knowledge of edged tools and their uses. True modern people don't respect elders, but if you listen with a keen ear it is obvious this 'Gentleman' is not one of the 'Elderly'....rather Lofty is an 'Elder' i.e. one to be deeply respected. Still, I do agree with Dan even that said, that it might be worth mentioning Lofty's Special Services Achievements and Books! All the best. P.S. Might get the smaller version for my daughter- I already have wicked Parangs-machetes, as does she, but a bit too big for her.

Next time you do a Lofty Wiseman video, (if he's still around) make sure you make it screamingly clear WHO Wiseman is. As it is, it seems to be a video of an elderly gentleman repeating himself about a machete. More time and thought should have been put into the planning and shooting. Oh well.

***** This is one of those videos where this knowledgeable fellow should have been mic'd and shot right. Using the mic on camera was lazy/amateurish. I'd re-shoot and re-edit.

Why should it matter who he is? He could be lofty the author of the best selling survival book or lofty the bread maker.... sometime it cloud our judgement on what the person is saying by knowing who he is first...

Dan Lewis his knowledge and genius is prevalent throughout the video. Its obvious he is no amateur. I learned alot about this style blade from his teaching in this video. Must be a very respectable man, earned my respect trough one encounter, you on the other hand, must do the opposite in life. :) Ps: I think your just upset because your out of shape compared to him. have a nice day.

Carlos T So dude has a point. I don't know who Lofty is. KZbin has an international audience, it would help to put either a brief resume of the man's accomplishments in the video or in the video description.

You don't get out much do you? Over hear in the states we got something called a "Boy's ax" . Bigger than a hatchet but smaller than a standard pole ax. It does all those jobs much faster and cleaner than that hybrid bowie your sporting. Instead of just moving bushes and sharpening sticks, it will fell trees as well! Properly sharpened, you can even shave your beard with it!
@Blagger30009 жыл бұрын
HM Dickson Properly sharpened you could shave with a fucking donkey, know it all! Over in the States everything is bigger and better, us poor Europeans have nothing worthy to you fuckwit yanks. Fuck off back across the pond where you belong you braggard!

I was very impressed, and even headed over to scorpion to buy one...until I saw the price. Even if it IS the best one on the market, it's still incredibly overpriced. It's about double what I expected.

Mention survival & the two words that immediately spring to mind ( in or out of a Military setting/uniform/ rig are John "Lofty" Wiseman) He is the "Go to man/Guru" for a fountain of knowledge that in short, knows NO BOUNDS... Forget the utter C...RAP spouted by Bear Grylls. As "Lofty" said of him. "He is an Idiot" Lofty, must have dome something right to have been the youngest man to be awarded the "Badge" ( R.S.M.) status in the most elite regt in the entire world. & a really nice & down to earth guy into the bargain ( As unpretentious as they come) & ALL in special forces ( The firm) who have served with lofty would echo my remarks.

I agree they are all using their fame 2 from the prestige of the sas to get airtime but they do have to pay the bills, what lofty has pointed out is both of their failings & incorrect information that some of the public will follow after all bad advice is worst than no advice

Lol so the point of all you know-it-all survival enthusiasts, is that you need to be on to the metal age in technology when out in the woods. A metal blade will get you going in the direction you want to go. Lol. I think the stone-agers would desperately agree with all of you and gladly take the bluntest of knives over their childish rocks anyday- and survive just as well.
@palmer397711 жыл бұрын
rubbish, if the so called professional is giving bad or incorrect or inappropriate advice for the dramatization of tv, then YES other professionals should point out that fact as lofty did, peace

owenspud1 And he's trying to rip off a lot of people by selling this, whatever he did in the past. How do you know that he was even there and not another SAS unit? Was he still in the SAS at the time?
@0rigiin9 жыл бұрын
owenspud1 Lofty is indeed a legend. Grew up in the 80s learning form his book, but that doesn't really change the fact that essentially this is just a Parang with a few modifications and I don't think that eitkomi was being disrespectfull by pointing that out. Great tool for off trail route carving in jungle areas of Malaysia or Sumatra when embedded in such scenarios for months on end (unlikely, for most people), but then if you are there you can buy one locally for a pittance. Elsewhere, I question the validity of such a tool in heavily domesticated (in terms of landscape, access rights and activity regarding woodland etc) Northern Europe for example.
