I apologize if this is a repeat, but I would suggest you take the glass out of the new stove, and get a spare one cut from an auto glass store! We all do our best to load the stove safely but Ive had a log slip and crack my glass just before bed time. It is a dangerous hassle and you live further from amenities than I do! I keep a spare for my home stove and my cabin stove now!! Things are really coming together! By far my most watched channel now! Keep up the good work Ooga-booga!!!!

Don’t forget to vent your roof! Drilling holes towards the top side of your squirrel blockers near the underside of the plywood. Cover the holes with screening to keep out bugs and mice. Aluminum screening works best, because mice can bite through the vinyl stuff. Leave about 1-1.5 inches of space between the underside of the roof and your insulation for air movement. Make sure it’s vented at the crown of the roof as well. Otherwise, condensation will happen, dripping water on the inside of the ceiling. It can cause a major moisture problem. I’ve literally heard water dripping inside of unvented roofs.

A great investment for your ATV is a plow to clear snow from your parking area, path, and vicinity around your cabin. You will be amazed how effective the plow will be both with both snow removal and doing gravel maintenance on your parking area and path. A great hack with the plow for snow removal is to install a 2” pvc pipe on the cutting edge of the plow and you won’t gouge the gravel surface. Key is to get the plow designed for your ATV with a quick connect system. Takes just a few minutes to connect and disconnect. You will love it.

Love your channel James! and love your passion for reading books. My wife and I are from US. I know you have been thinking about creating an air flow / views through your trees to keep mosquitoes down in the spring. But consider the fact this may cause excessive wind and snow drifts in the winter (last winter was mild in comparison). Also, as you may know tree roots keep the soil from eroding from river banks etc. Some of those trees are very old and you will never be able to replace them in your life time. So be stratigic with which ones you fell. :) May the gods bless you, the old gods and the new! ;)

George Constanza ( a leading expert in shrinkage) said that shrinkage is a serious thing! I live in bear country and have seen bears rip front doors to shreads, tear car doors off and rip roofs of of cars. The meatier the front door the better, good job. If you have to leave the cabin for a long time put a bear board in front of the door on the floor. (piece of plywood with nail's driven through). You might consider drilling some 2 inch holes in the "bird boards" you are putting in and backing with metal screen so the roof can breathe.
@stevenlake5278Ай бұрын
You need air flow between the rafters. You need air flow from your eves up to the peak of your roof brother. I did roofing for years. Anytime I didn't see proper ventilation like that. It created mold. And we would have to replace the whole roofs. You have to put what is called baffles, from your eaves all the way to the peak, then you can proceed with insulation. If you have any more questions about that I'll be happy to help. May the roofing gods be with you😮😮😮. So don't block off your eaves

Just a heads up if you were not thinking about this tip. When at our place during winter, we cook almost all our meals on the wood stove. We purchased a laser red heat thermometer to aid us in perfect culinary cooking, ha ha. There is always a kettle of water on the stove for hot water when needed, coffee, tea or even dish water. I too am building our place , which we bought raw with noting on it, it is coming along nicely. You currently have the top trim extending edge to edge of your side trim and the bottom extending from the inside edge of your side trim. Just a suggestion. Love the videos.
@lottischenk5698Ай бұрын
I’ve already said this somewhere else on here but - In our last cabin the entrance was basically two doors that were connected like a haallway/ shed like structure so the snow and wind wouldn’t blow directly into the living area and the heat wouldn’t escape as quickly. We stored our shoes there, some wood and tools etc.- easy to grab from the outside without sacrificing heat from the living area. And I guess it would also be extra storage and bear protection .
@motel581Ай бұрын
Having lived in a cabin with cracks around the door, you’re gonna want to put a overlapping plate screwed to the door that covers the crack between door and frame. It’ll help keep ‘dust’ snow out during very windy/cold/dry storms. My van & several campers I’ve lived in had typical doors, and that flap on the door covering the crack was a game changer for me…. Snow finds a way with 80mph wind

Hello Good Sir James, Various reasons can cause a generator to make a clicking sound. A defective battery or a battery that is too old and nearing its lifespan (which I doubt is the case here) can cause the generator to make a clicking sound. Insufficient voltage caused by corroded or loose cables can also cause a clicking noise. These are just some of the abnormal noises that you can hear from your generator. If you feel your generator has become noisier than usual, don't ignore the issue and immediately call your technician. Sometimes, the unusual noises could be an indication of a serious complication that can severely damage the generator. Hope You have a Good weekend ! Ooga Booga !

As mentioned ventilation is very important. We had vaulted ceilings in our last house and even with what we thought was enough ventilation, we constantly had moisture issues near the walls. When enough snow was on the roof then got mild enough to melt, water actually leaked inside the house from melting frost on inside of roof. I can only stress to put as much ventilation as u can possibly put. Another option if you can afford is spray foam. Apparently no air space is needed! But expensive
