I was a bit worried with a large number of fake reviews but I am very pleased with the results. Bit of background, kzbin.infoUgkxmKn8dCAXovWn8_cLYoosGLVrVrpwlIMc I need to split approximately 1.5 cords of wood and didn't feel like destroying my back. I purchased this anticipating to have a few issues splitting wood but have only come across a few logs of elm where the stringy nature of elm made it more difficult to split. Overall its not a necessarily fast process but it also isn't a very arduous one either. I came and went fairly often to do different tasks but once I stayed and got into a system I could easily split my pieces in a fairly timely manner.

Hello, Always fun to see new video from you. One of my favorite innovations in log splitting (well actually two) are the ram in the middle so you are splitting on the forward stroke and the back stroke. The other I think works well for most machines is to fabricate a receiver (such as your two upright cutters could be flat plate that the wedges drop down over) so that your wedge can be changed out to any configuration you like with whatever you are splitting. Easy to replace a damaged wedge and you can gear it to the amount of power available. Think vertical trailer hitch (or two one on each side of the I beam) that your wedge can drop onto with a tube in tube. Big stuff can be split with a multi wedge etc. etc. Always fun to ride along with your ideas. Take care. Doug

Built solid, gonna last the ages. Good idea upgrading the motor. The wood was split into excellent size sections too. I'd hire you to put together creations like this for me in the future if I ever get the money.

Hi made this design of old excavator parts. Really stable and good design! I put 3 knives on it so i split up to 12 pieces everything is staggered and works like a charm!

I like the idea of your 6-way wedge! But if you increase your return line to a 1 inch or a 3/4 inch as for your intake 1/2 inch line you would have increased the speed of your ram! Good Luck on getting your wedge dialed in!!

Nice job you should build yourself a lift on the opposite side you certainly have the skill to do so. Bending over gets old quick. I built mine 4" off the ground I have a bad back so I work on my knee's. Ted

I put a solid 2'' rubber block in face of my splitter , pushes right up to cutting edge .

Rednic, my own home built 8hp Honda with a 2" ram is a monster and easily pushes 24" oak. Your 15hp with 3/4 and 1 1/8" steel is killer strength. My blade comes from a loader bucket and is tempered steel, not the easiest to grind an edge into. Are your blades cold rolled and do they maintain an edge? Not that they lose shape at all : )

1055 steel works great you can get them fairly cheap from your local bobcat dealer or ebay. Just purchase bobcat cutting edges. They dont come sharp but grinding only sucks but so bad.

Just my opinion; I would have used one heavy center blade and arranged two horizontal knives on an "X" shape off the main wedge. That way there is no choke point for wood to get bound up, but you still get a multi-split

I am interested buy the 2 cylinder that are on the floor having a long spiral welded on , I have been dreaming of a moterise machine using hydrolique motor , it could float, it could run on dirt road ,snow ,Ford as a patent on this , it was used usind a Fordson tractor

i wish you luck but i think when your splitting hard wood and you hit a knot gone twist that like a pretzel ....i could be wrong and i hope i am but if you want that to work i would brace the wedge up with guests even twisting the i beam i would think about... but if all you split is birch and pine the soft woods you should be good... i may be wrong though never no...

Very nice work... NIce Birch wood too ! I am almost finished w/ mine here too... BUt > I am looking to see if other people used regular pipe fittings on the pressure side - I used one galv fitting on the control valve and know they are not rated for 3000-psi - Anyone have any failure stories on this issue ??

+Kenneth P. Wise the width on the 3/4 vehicle blades is around 4in the horizontal blade is 1/2" thick and approximately 8x12....basically it was made to split the average log size around here

+Tom Reed the only reason it was done that way is that it does not relay on the welds for strength. It can come apart or break off due too bad welds

Like your wedge setup allot, build this 6 ton splitter 1979, rebuild to 25 ton 2013 with all same metal. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5C2c4OejNJrpKM Something you may want to do to yours is weld an thick plate to I beam about 1 ft long or longer under wedge on vertical part of I beam. Most wood split here is red oak, white oak, hickory and pecan. Boom with 12 v winch and timber dogs saves back big time. Also I use only marine gas with shatbil added absolutely, learned the hard way
