The front seal cracked and was leaking. That’s why I ordered the kit and replaced the front seals. I did not replace any of the rear seals even though the kit came with those also.

That front seal gets a lot of abuse with wood chips and all smashing against it over and over. If it's not that the sun and elements tends to rot it out. I'm glad I could make things easier for ya.

@@LetsDoThis321 I am happy to report that I was able to replace all the seals in my cylinder about 2 weeks ago. It was bit of a challenge for me as I had never worked on a cylinder before, but I was able to get it done in about 3 hours with minimal cursing lol. Now it splits fine and so far no leaks!! I earned another youtube mechanic's certificate!!! Thanks for your help!!!

I have the same splitter, 27 ton which I bought in 2015. I split several cord each year. My only heat source I have but I like it that way, wood heat is the best. The parts kit was nearly 28 bucks with tax. I decided to change the hydraulic oil and filter along with the engine oil. R&R the seals and ops check good . All said and done about 1.5 hrs and just under $120.00 bucks.

What does the screw you first took out screw to? I noticed it wasn't in the same place as you took it out.

The small screw on the front of the cylinder. That screw goes into the cap. The screw holds the cap from going too far into the cylinder. The cap spins in circles it floats in the cylinder and around the rod. The only things that hold the cylinder cap in pace is the metal ring and that screw.

I have a dirty hands 22 ton log splitter. What's not leaking any fluid in my fluids at the right level. I've noticed a loss of power splitting logs it won't split logs it used to go right through. Any thoughts. It really doesn't have that many hours on it splitwise. Maybe 50/80 hours. The motor runs fine I just wouldn't think that the cylinder rebuild would be needed yet. Is there any troubleshooting methods? Is there a way to bleed the air out if there's any are I'm not sure how we got in. Thx 🇺🇸✌️

Could be the rear seals passing fluid or it could be a pump failing. It is very possible you blew a rear seal in the cylinder. This video does not cover the rear seal. For the rear seal you have to pull the cylinder all the way out, it can get a bit messy if using hydraulic fluid to push it out, but it can be done that way.

Yes, you can install a pressure gauge on a wood splitter, it should be placed between the pump and the valve on the pressure side of the pump. Order a T fitting and fit a gauge inline. The old splitter I used had a gauge on it like that.

Like has been said, it could that your hydraulic pump is going bad on that unit. Also, check the coupler that connects the pump to the engine. Those go bad and can slip, which makes it seem like the splitter has no hydraulic power. Good luck.

It appears the 27 and 25 ton share the same seal kit: amzn.to/49RyNs5 the great thing about amazon is this is prime with free returns if it does not work out. If you take a tape measure you should be able to eyeball the bore and cycler size. If the outside diameter (OD) cylinder measures 4.5 subtract off 0.5 inches for a inside diameter (ID).

Which he has a 27 ton (Dirty Hands) splitter that took a 4.5” Set of Seals… I have the same (Dirty Hands) Splitter except it’s a 22 ton that takes the 4” Set of Seals!!! Very Important to Measure across the cylinder to make sure You get the Correct Set!!! This is The Best Video I’ve Seen Yet on KZbin on Changing just what You Need to Change To Get Right Back to Working On Getting Your Firewood for the Winter!!!✅ I changed the Rear “Bearing” Seals and it’s Not always Easy to Get The Shaft Out of The Cylinder!!! Saw a video where the guy uses a forklift with the cylinder hooked to a metal pole to pull it out 😳🤣🤣 Good Luck 👍
