This DIY log swing set project was fun, and easy. Gathering our own logs was fun for us, but if you don't have logs this project can be done with 4 x 4 & 4 x 6 beams from a lumber yard for a basic wooden swing design.
Thanks for watching, and if you try this project for yourself, please reach out to us if you have any questions about our design.

Not yet. I did get some of the hardware. It’s about number 3 or 4 on my list.

Just built the swing set using cedar from our property. Fresh cut cedar easily peeled. The kids are thrilled.

Nice precision chainsaw work! I love that the girls got to "help"...

Yeah, it's like Red Green says: "any tool can be the right tool." And the girls are never too far away from the action. They love to help. It was torture for them just playing in the house while we built it. They knew we were building something, but we wouldn't give them any clues.

First, thanks for sharing your work. Great design! I love the simplicity and strength of the design. I am trying to copy this for my two grand daughters who have outgrown their 6 foot high swing set. I live in rural Nova Scotia and have an assortment of trees on my property to choose from. Roughly what diameter logs would you suggest for the design? (you must live in the foothills somewhere - looks pretty idealic - the background looks like you must have traveled a piece to acquire your logs😊).

We did have to snowmobile about a mile to get to the trees. I think the biggest log is about 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter. Thanks so much for watching!

Hello from Texas. I’m about to cut some cedar trees and attempt to make a swing frame such as you. Thank y’all for the great information.

We live way off the road system out here and for the most part the kids are good at entertaining themselves, but the swing is something they definitely miss about living in town. A few logs and boom! Problem solved.

Thanks Melissa. Other than getting the logs back in April, and letting them dry after we peeled them the actual assembly only took like 2 hours.

Whenever we're in town the girls can just swing for hours! They love it. But I procrastinated with the project for far too long.

Thanks a lot for the tutorial very helpful, will soon start mine. Is the base foot strong enough or should I bury mine in the soil ?
@BRAMANTEBROTHERS

When we made this the kids were little and light. The pressure treated wood setting on the ground worked fine. But now that the kids are bigger and can throw their weight into each swing, it might be a good idea to bury the legs a little bit.

When you made the notch ,,does both poles have notches ,,,or one has a notch then the pole that goes in the notch doesnt have a notch ? That would make 4 notches made with chainsaw or just 2 notches ?
@BRAMANTEBROTHERS

We definitely notched all 4 logs. I think you can see that best at 5:32. Thanks for watching!!

Great work! How long is the top beam ? What is the spacing measurements between swings etc? Thanks in advance!
@BRAMANTEBROTHERS
@BRAMANTEBROTHERS 2 жыл бұрын
Our beam ended up being 13 ft. The A-frames start 6" in on both sides. There is about a 50" gap between swings. They used to be closer, but we spread them a bit to make room for a baby swing in the middle. Thanks for watching. Those hooks we ended up using, and left a link in the description, work great. No squeaking yet!
