i'm not done with the video yet, so my views aren't complete... but I still rather dislike him Update: I've just about finished. Firstly, the whole forest incident still scars me and leaves a sour opinion in my mind. He also seems somewhat obnoxious, at least on his main channel. But, there are signs that perhaps he really does want to move on from that, and if somebody actually is truly sorry and actually does want to move onward, I have some bare tolerance. Ultimately, I hardly want to dabble in this any further.

Weird/fun fact: The college Logan Paul dropped out of was Ohio University. I was a sophomore there while he was a freshman and he lived 2 dorms over from me. I used to see him around campus filming Vines all the time. He was loud and stupid back then too but it was kind of fun to see random spots of my campus trending on Vine all the time. He dropped out after a year and f***ed off to California and we were pretty glad to be rid of him. He woke me up one day by filming a Vine outside my dorm on my day off, yelling his head off and I’ve never quite forgiven him for it.

My biggest axe to grind with this man is that when he posted the forest video, I was working with childcare and I had children who were legitimately scared and upset because they had to learn about the concept of suicide through a youtuber and they simply didn’t understand. @@symonroe8095 I disagree. Many people, like him, continue to be rich without empathy. I’m guessing his brother may be an example of that. Anyways, people legitimately do change and I feel like D’Angelo choose to down play that dramatically, but then again he’s only 22. The reason I like his content more than someone like creepshow art (who actually helped me discover this channel) is that he takes an unbiased standpoint w/ his evidence and doesn’t claim a moral high ground. He’ll say that he doesn’t like Logan Paul, but doesn’t skew the evidence against him and even admits that he has improved. That’s good commentary

Logan saying “I’m an influencer, what’s my real influence been” is the most nuanced thing I think I’ve heard any influencer say. Do I feel like he’s changed a lot? Yeah. Do I think he’s a 100% changed, empathetic, emotionally and intelligently awoken? Not really. Do I like him? No. But that one line is somehow ridiculously insightful. It’s this crazy clarity among Logan’s craziness and makes him feel actually human for the first time in the entirety of my awareness of the entity that is Logan Paul. I just need that out there in the universe.
@lavenderoh
@lavenderoh 3 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. And also adding, this is a different case since he's an influencer, but people do grow up. A few years might not seem like long but if I think of the meaningful differences in my life between age 22 and 25, it's pretty extreme. I don't think he's magically different, that's why we see the slip ups and differences in actual behavior over time. He's matured, and seems to be continuing to mature.

Although it looks like dangelo has given up on KZbin due to the lack of videos for the last few years. I hope he returns he has awesome and well thought out content unlike his target in this video 😂

It seems like Logan can function as a "regular person" if he's not presented with the opportunity to do harm. The podcast grounded him, he hadn't alienated his friends, there weren't any harmful trends happening at the time, and he was watching Jake mirror his own mistakes... but he wasn't getting the thrill seeking brain chemical hits he used to. Then suddenly there's this thing that can boost your income ten fold, there's no laws against it, it comes with a built in audience and all of your fake influencer friends are peddling it. I don't want to diagnose him, people have already tried and it rubs me wrong every time it happens, but his behavior reminds me of my husband when he was untreated for ASPD. I do not think Logan has ASPD, I am not qualified to say so and even if I were I cannot diagnose through a screen of purposefully curated personality -- I just don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that he has low empathy levels and a bit of antisocial behavior. He needs real friends around him that will call him out, but he pushed all the ones he had away, only leaving greedy yes men ready to take advantage of his self destruction kick and disregard for his fans. The guy is not innocent at all in this, don't read me wrong here. I just do believe that this corner turning that is documented here was real, he just happened to find another awful trend that scratched that "MORE, BIGGER, HIGHER" itch that never went away.

Honestly, the only reason I can tell them apart is the amount of scumbagery each brother is. Logan is the entertainer who wants to make content (even at the price of quality and/or morals [at least back then...]). Jake is the “entrepreneur” (and I use that term loosely) who is willing to scam children over and over and over again, while advertising his merch 100 times in a 20 minute video (I recommend the Nerd City video on it. It’s very enlightening). Logan cares about the view count; Jake cares about his revenue.

I think the longevity of his growth says something about the sincerity of it. You don't just grow up over the course of a few months. You don't very suddenly realize the full intensity of how *wrong* something you did was. For example, and I know this doesn't even come near what Logan has done in the past, when someone is bullied in highschool. The bully doesn't graduate and magically see how severely they messed with someone's life; they look back at it years later after experiencing life and realize they were an utter ass. I think that's why I personally don't hold anything Logan did in his past against him. That's not to say I wouldn't hold him accountable for his actions, because I absolutely would and do, but over the years he's made slow and genuine progress to get where he is right now, mentally, and it's much, MUCH more agreeable than a youtuber who just apologizes, cools off for a month or two, makes a large donation, hosts a few giveaways, and then goes back to pretty much the same content they were producing before. That's another thing, you can see his change in his regular, unrelated to any controversy content. He's changed, for the better, over an extended period of time and I can only hope his younger viewers grow up and continue to look up to the way he's turned his life around, and still is.

The suicide forest body incident was not the only awful thing he did. If you look at his Japanese blog videos leading up to that, it was all filled with him being racist and disrespectful towards Japanese citizens, mocking them, throwing things at them, putting dead fish on their belongings, etc. If it was America he could easily be sued for doing those things. It’s really upsetting that people only shed light on the suicide forests incident but not his general racism and disrespect towards Japanese citizens. This should all be considered when judging his character. He has never once properly and publicly apologized for how he treated other human beings of a difference race.

D’angelo isn’t the new Shane Dawson. They don’t make the same kind of videos. Shane didn’t talk about problematic people, he didn’t do it to report on or spread awareness about a person. His “investigations” weren’t objective - they couldn’t be when he made things take a personal narrative format. Someone saying “I did this because of ______,” is something only that person can attest to, and their words can’t be full heartedly believed when they are in “fix reputation” mode. D’angelo covers people who did shitty things from an objective (or at least) reasonable view. He holds a person accountable, recites what transpired, and leaves a margin of room to debate why someone did what they did. D’angelo is a jury - he keeps things detached. Shane was a “friend” - willing to believe whatever someone says because he likes them.

STORYTIME: my family and I were in Japan the EXACT SAME TIME Logan and his posse traveled there and filmed the dead body video. My sister and I were standing in line at an owl cafe and met Logan, one of his friends, and his girlfriend at the time--I complimented them on their attire since they were wearing traditional Japanese clothing and the girlfriend was surprisingly sweet while Logan and his other friend kind of stood there just smiling but saying nothing. And I kid you not, there was a SWARM of people following them around--THAT is how many people natively living in Japan watched his videos and knew about him and he disrespected their country in a matter of minutes or seconds with that one shot. EDIT: It is true that some homogeneous Asian countries will view tourists (specifically white and other non-Asians) with utmost fascination. I say that many of them were fans because my dad asked a few people why everyone was following Logan Paul and his squad were, and they said "KZbin" -- henceforth, the influence. P.S. If y'all think I'm lying, just know that there is literally no reason for me to lie about this because even on a channel with millions of subscribers and talking about a guy who has been famous worldwide, I have nothing to gain. I had no idea who these folks were until the incident came out--my middle school sister was the ONLY family member who knew about them from online. It would make sense if I said we had a LONG conversation and spent the whole day together with the squad and got them to follow me on social media, OF COURSE that would sound more outrageous. But you know, everyone is a skeptic, so enjoy that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Logan Paul giving a million dollars to charity was definitely performative, but it's also the reason I have always credited him as being the better Paul brother. This video really just shows how D'angelo is one of the best and most objective commentary KZbinrs out there. Like, how easy would it have been to make a 50-minute video just dragging Logan Paul, one of the internets most hated content creators, through the mud? I mean, the views are basically guaranteed from putting his name in the title anyway. But no, cause that would only be one side of the story, and that's not what D'angelo does. His videos honestly present better journalism than any major newsmedia I know of.
@ericaloveskorea
@ericaloveskorea 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I feel like overall. He still decided to ultimately frame him as not that much better when he said something to the effect of saying Logan Paul was a rich kid forced to learn empathy to stay rich with no consequences. That disappointed me that his overall conclusion was still pretty negative because people do change and grow, and forgiveness is a good thing. At the same time, D’Angelo is only 22, so he’ll learn that with time, hopefully. Also, many people continue being terrible and rich, and it seems like he’s genuinely took a turn, and I respect that.
@mariabrown1481
@mariabrown1481 3 жыл бұрын
@@ericaloveskorea Well, saying that he was forced to learn empathy and stayed rich without any consequences is, in my opinion, an accurate assessment, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. In the end, it only means that Logan's career has stayed intact, while the content he' is creating is much more worth the while, and he seems to also enjoy it a lot more. Or in other words, both sides have come out on top.
