One of the greatest examples of this type of effect goes back to Queen's 2nd album - Queen II (1974), and can be heard on the 1st track of the 2nd "side" (AKA Side Black). The song is called 'Ogre Battle' and begins with a long reversed, slowed-down, phase-shifted gong crash. In fact, the entire intro to this track is the outro reversed - whole band - vocals and all. It's genius production!

Will I use this specific effect in my projects? Probably not. Did I just watch a tutorial that had a ton of useful information, applicable across many contexts, presented in a measured, easy-to-follow manner? Absolutely, and it’s why I subscribe: even if the video doesn’t specifically apply to my needs, I am still guaranteed to learn something. Thanks for another terrific tutorial.

Thanks for a video! The only thing is that you can control Gain directly in TestOsc, there is a knob on the right of it. Also you can easily it automate.
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I mentioned that in the video. The reason why I didn’t use the gain control in the test oscillator is because you might want to put an effect BEFORE the gain control, which you wouldn’t be able to do if your controlling gain from the test oscillator.

Sorry, couldn't find a tutorial on pro x stock sounds, although I'm sure you have one. My question is, is there a way to mark my logic sounds as favorites so I don't forget which ones I like? I know in Alchemy there is a rating area but some of the others don't have a way to save favorites, as far as I can see.

9:45 for some reason logic isnt recognising my input when i turn a knob here, i know my midi keyboard works and when i move the knob the little blue dot by the 4/4 lights up so i know its not broken, but for some reason the scriptor doesnt want to learn the input, anyone else had trouble with this?

Could you possibly do a tutorial on how to make Hard House Hoovers? I’ve been watching your synth videos and have been studying them to learn the functions. Have literally watched the ES2 vid 3 times back to back. Hoovers are something I just can’t seem to nail. Could you PLEASE see what you can do?

Could you do a video on gain staging? I am trying to have my kick stand out in the drop of my song but it keeps clipping when i increase the bass or boost the level. You have single handedly taught me most of what I know about production. Thanks.
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Try pulling the level of ALL of your instruments down by 5-10 dB or so. Enough so that the master doesn't clip. Then pull up your kick drum to the level you want. Then in mastering add a limiter for the final loudness level.
@natelavoymusic

@@MusicTechHelpGuy Smart. I was worried about making the track too quiet, but I guess that is what mastering is for.

hey Josh :) I have a question that stands not in the context of this video. topic: learn assignments (midi keyboard) I have for example a simple gain vst and I put this on every strip, then I try to connect every gain signal from every gain vst to ONE nob so I can control every strip with one nob, without going in each one (this makes it easier to regulate when I have to fix loudness without changing balance of the mix. THE PROBLEM :D : logic allows me only 2 Gain signals from this vsts on one nob. after that it goes back to one und delet the others. Do you know if it is possible to Mappe more then two signals to one nob? Thanks a lot! I hope you understand :D I cam from Germany and englisch is not my masterclass :D

Just a question, instead of recording the feed of the reverb in a distinct track in real-time, in order to save time, would we get the same result by clicking on “create a track” in the mixer out of the reverb track and then bouncing this track offline? If not what would be the difference?
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy 2 жыл бұрын
In my video I intentionally put the reverb directly on the test oscillator track, so I didn't have to use a send or busses. You could do that. But you'd still have to draw in all of the automation manually before bouncing. Alternatively, you could put the reverb ON the channel like I did in this video, draw your automation, then create a blank MIDI region for the duration of the sweep. Then select the MIDI region and press Control B to bounce in place, that would also work. But again, you'd have to draw in all of the automation for all of those parameters, or record it in using the method I demonstrate here. Personally, I like to just recording it in real time, because I don't have to worry about automation, but yes, you could bounce in place or offline bounce as well.

@dirtycleansound 2 жыл бұрын
Awesome video, per usual. Question though. What's the point in doing the live automation when you can't hear the song as you're recording?
@MusicTechHelpGuy
@MusicTechHelpGuy 2 жыл бұрын
You CAN hear the song while writing in automation if you want. I just muted the song so that the sweep was clearly heard. If you're trying to use the song as a reference for where you sweep, then yes, you can absolutely do that.

@MusicTechHelpGuy

I didn't include the Logic project for this one because all of the music is just from one of the starter grids. It's the "solaris" starter grid, so technically you already have it on your computer if you've downloaded the sound library content.
