THANKYOU!! I spent a little while searching for something like this, but so many forum users muddy their responses with a myriad of other things that a relative newcomer (such as myself) would have to spend even more time looking up. Your video was incredibly helpful, clearly explained, and easy to follow. Tip of the hat to you, chap.

So this is basically Logic's version of what Pro Tools calls "Audio Suite" plug-ins. A way of "destructively" applying effects to the waveform, rather than merely instantiating a plug-in on a track. And by "destructively," in this context I mean it makes a new copy of the file with the effect applied, so it's not truly "destructive" inasmuch as it doesn't alter the original audio file; it merely creates a new one where the effect is destructively applied. You still have the original. This is, indeed, a very handy thing to have available. I've been using Logic for a little over a year and I wasn't sure until now that this was even possible in Logic. I thought you had to apply effects by instantiating them on a track. Which is a nice option to have (indeed, it's used on most tracks of music). But occasionally, being able to discreetly go in and apply an effect destructively with "Selection-Based Processing" is the most efficient way to achieve the results you want. Like when producing a radio commercial with a piece of pre-recorded music, and you need to have it end before it actually ends. With this method, you can go in and find a beat, apply a reverb, and let it ring out, making it sound like the piece of music ended right where you chose to end it. Thank you, thank you, thank you for explaining Selection-Based Processing. I should have watched one of these videos a long time ago. LOL!

Such an excellent & valuable tutorial, thank you very much dance tech ! I didn't know that you can make multiple selections in a Region which could then be processed all together. Glad you keep releasing great Logic Pro tuts. Warm Regards from Holland.

"Is it possible for you to take a session on how to send different mixes to different headphones? especially if the interface is having only one headphone jack output and connected to headphone amp for multiple headphones." Not possible that way. To send different mixes to different headphones you need to create alternative stereo or mono output mixes assigned to different outputs on the audio interface

when I select a region on the track, either with the scissors tool, marquee tool, or splitting track at playhead.. it wont let me select the "selection based processing" option when the window pops up. any ideas why this would be? thanks!
@chrischillyhill62894 жыл бұрын
I'm having this problem too
@andrewdohertymusic12344 жыл бұрын
If selection-based processing is ‘greyed out’ in the pop-up window, it could be because you have a region or regions on the track on which you are working that contain ‘unflattened’ take-folders. Try flattening all the take-folders in all the regions of the track in question, then see if the problem persists. (To flatten take folders, click the number which shows up at the start of the relevant region(s), then select ‘flatten’ (not ‘flatten and merge’) in the tracks area. This solution worked for me - just stumbled upon it through trial and error. Hope it works for you.

One: it's great to see this series is still on - and as interesting and useful as ever. Two: could you confirm something for me? Do the processed regions bypass the amp on your channel strip (or any other effects/buses that you could have had there)? My guess is they don't, and the signal flow remains the same... Am I right? Three: Can you choose "A" for some regions on your track and "B" for others?
@dancetech6 жыл бұрын
selection based processing does not effect the effects or amp etc on the channel-strip for the track. yes you can apply A or B to any region.

Great video. I love all your Logic vids and IK Multimedia plugin tutorials. Question for you on Selection-Based Processing...if you have plugins loaded on the channel strip for the track where you're applying SBP in a scissored region, are those plugin processes additionally applied over the scissored region and the SBP? Or are they muted within the scissored region when you apply SBP? Thanks
@dancetech5 жыл бұрын
good question. I'd assume the plugins on the track still do their thing.
@ekendradasa9925 Жыл бұрын
I loved this video; thank you. My question is: What if a plug-in (in my case, Izotope De-Click) doesn't seem to work in SBP mode but only in track effect mode? I could be doing something wrong, but following the process presented in this video doesn't allow me to apply the De-Click on selected regions only. Thanks again.

well then bounce the effect in place to de-click that section of audio

Why does the processing have different results when effects are placed on the master channel verses selection based processing with the regions. They should sound the same no? I test my effects on the master channel then use selection based processing but it never sounds like it did on the master why?
@MonsieurVersatile6 жыл бұрын
Great vid as ever but I'm struggling to imagine a scenario where it wouldn't be easier to dupe the track and edit the sections from each track? Much quicker and you can use all the tools at your disposal including pan etc? If you wanted to you could use the selection based stuff on the new track too?
@dancetech6 жыл бұрын
well it is what it is, but would it really be easier to create a new track with same settings, chop and then move regions to the new track & process them there via the actual channel strip? (if that is what you are suggesting)
@MonsieurVersatile6 жыл бұрын
Well, yes. Copying the track with its settings is a single click, alt drag the regions, then edit away; as you have to do with Selection processing in any case. It's the automation that causes the grief, as you rightly say, of course. But I don't automate anything until late in the mix in any case, generally. Keep up the great work, cheers.

I've not found another way.. remember with selection based programming you are adding the effect in-place rather than like on a channel where the audio is simply passing thru inserted effects which can be switched off/on & adjusted

just like in Finder, there HAS to be a way to select a range of clips and/or regions by clicking on the FIRST AND LAST clip/region (NOT clicking every clip/region ONE BY ONE 'cause that'll take FOREVER when you have so many to select!!). In Finder you just click on the first item, hold shift and click on the last item and bam it's done! Something like this doesn't exist in LPX??
