Really enjoyed the video! My number one tip is to read the online manual. In Logic you have a world class piece of highly developed software and you are denying yourself of it's (and therefore your own) potential if you are bluffing your way through on a few KZbin videos. The manual is online, free, broken up into bite size pieces, searchable, cross-indexed and up to date.

@9:52 when you said you can't undo volume, you actually can.. Just press Command+Option+Z to open Undo History, and enable "Mixer" in "Include Parameters Changes From: Mixer | Plug - In", and now wallah, Cmd+Z undos the volume! because "Volume" is integrated in the "Mixer". I enabled both the "Mixer" and "Plug-In" for extra convenience :) sorry if someone already mentioned it, but I'm too lazy to read the comments.

Here are the tips: 0:45 - 1. You can control automation on MIDI channels. Open Piano roll press "A" to bring up automation 1:59 - 2. Use Track Alternatives - Right click on track header choose Track Header Components > Track Alternatives 3:43 - 3. Flatten Your Takes 4:37 - 4. Advanced Tools - Find Under "Preferences > Advanced" 6:18 - 5. Option+Click+Drag copies things on drag. 6:56 - 6. Bounce In Place - truncates MIDI to audio. (And other stuff) Select regions then Control+Command+B (or access via right click) 8:25 - 7. Adjust Metronome Settings 9:34 - 8. Option+Click to reset values (Faders, Pan, Etc.) 10:20 - 9. Make similar channels output to a Bus (He's talking about making sub groups for vocals, instruments, Drums, etc.) 12:25 - 10. Use "Latch" Mode for automation (Latch keeps writing the last setting once you stop moving.) 13:37 - 11. Use region editor. Good for reversing, pitch stuff 16:34 - 12. SMTP Lock - locks to time stamp instead of bar/beat grid 17:57 - 13. Create Custom Presets - Channel Strip chains, Bus FX, so on. 18:49 - 14. Vintage EQ Plugins 20:55 - 15. Strip Silence - Control+X to bring up the Strip Silence Window. 21:48 - 16. Use Flex Pitch to Change the Gain (of Vocals) Better than automation in some cases. 22:57 - 17. Alchemy Synth is really good,

Someone may have already mentioned this but instead of using the scissor tool for your secondary tool I find it's way more useful to use the marquee tool. The Marquee will technically is a scissor tool! Just command click and it will slice right where you click and for even more efficient cutting if you click and drag and then click again it'll create two cuts for you in one smooth motion. This is also great for adding automation points very quickly as when you drag and click it'll automatically create four points for boosting or reducing automation values! Incredibly powerful and compared to what just the scissors can do alone
@NathanJamesLarsen
@NathanJamesLarsen 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I have tried multiple times to get into a workflow with the Marquee tool but never could get super used to it to be honest. I totally get it is more of an all around tool but I've been using scissors for literally years that it's tough to break it and get into a new habit haha! Maybe I'm lazy LOL!
@iamdannywyatt
@iamdannywyatt 4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Larsen if you get used to the Marquee you will make another video of “I wish I knew this when I started using the scissors” 😉 you can do pretty much the same thing with the marquee and maybe 5-6 other things. If you select a section in between 2 bars and hit the Repeat shortcut, it repeats that section. Useful for when you have a region that’s not aligned to the grid but you want to make an exact copy and keep the position. The same can be applied to copy-paste. Select the section, hit copy, go to the beat where you want to paste it, click with the marque to set the “in” point and hit paste. That’s it 😊 and there’s more...

Hi Nathan. Millard Randolph Curry here from Central Arkansas. I just finished watching this video and was super impressed. I was turned on to you by Charles Cleyn, in my opinion, a very talented, great presenter, in a relaxed way of producing his tutorials. I must say you are more energic and move along at a nice pace. In fact, I was so impressed that I gave you a thumbs up, clicked the subscribe button, and clicked on the personalized notification bell. I'm looking forward to more of you sharing nifty tricks & tips. I came from the days of Logic Express several years ago, in fact, I still love & use it. However, I have 10 to 12 upcoming recording projects that should keep me busy for the next 5+ years. Being retired now, I have all the time I need to get it done before I kick the bucket. Hopefully, my 30+-year-old daughter can continue reaping the benefits of my life's work. Thanks for the info & great tutorial. I learned several new techniques. Keep Up The Good Work Nathan. I'm look forward to learning more from you as time goes by. Take care & keep'em comin'!!!

Enjoyed the video! Just wanted to add a note for people wanting more info "Vintage Tube EQ". It's an emulation of the classic PULTEC Passive EQs which can make your mix sound really great. The knob arrangement can seem confusing so if you search youtube there are great videos on how to use. Stuff like using the attenuation and boost at the same time will give you more targeted frequency for punch etc.

Well it didn't work like that so I found myself scrolling KZbin and watching hours of tutorials and "how to" videos. soon I learned for every 1 helpful video there's 10 that are not helpful at all.. im so glad I subscribed to your channel ur a major help through this difficult journey. If you select all you vocal channels & then create a summing stack its ads them all to a "folder" & gives you the bus. its 2 clicks. you can then ad your group processing to that bus. Select tracks > right click > create track stack > choose summing stack done
@NathanJamesLarsen

@TomStrahle 2 жыл бұрын
Like I said on your livestream last week Nathan, I don't know whether to be happy or pissed when I discover an incredibly helpful shortcut that's been there for years. This one was a game changer for my very specific circumstance. I play guitar for a lot of composer's for TV, film and a lot of game scores. Obviously the composers I work for are mainly keyboardists and don't play guitar, or they wouldn't call me, so their midi parts for guitar are often either very staccato (lots of 16ths with 16th rest by the millions) or ultra legato (with some arpeggios with tied notes that last bars) - in other words unreadable. I would edit the midi via Command-6 until the music Command-3 was readable and as intended. One day, and I have no idea how long it had been there, I noticed on the midi roll (command-3) a little box - "interpretation" - click... WHAT!?!?!?! How long has that been there? Also "no overlap'" to get rid of the heavy hand syndrome. I need to do a similar video, but it will be more unused ones like that. Thanks and subbed... Tom Strahle

Alternative solution to sending all to a bus is create a track stack on your instruments. I find it tidies up the work flow by grouping everything into a collapsible folder and again you can mix within it, ad effects and then balance it with the main mix super easy. Quicker too than sending everything to a bus

Regarding comment at 9:49 BTW you CAN undo mixer actions by going to Edit > Undo History... and clicking the Mixer toggle at the top right. I just learned this a week ago and oh man am I glad. What's even better is that it is tracking all of those mixer actions whether or not you have Mixer undos enabled or not. So, if you find it annoying most of the time to have to undo backwards through too many inconsequential mixer undo steps, you can keep Mixer undo turned off most of the time, and if you hit a point where you make a mixer mistake (eg. turning the volume down on the wrong track: "aw crap, what was it set to before?"), you can just go in and enable Mixer undo and then you can undo it after all. Hallelujah! You can enable/disable Plug-In undo as well if you'd prefer to control that with Cmd+Z instead of having to click undo/redo within the plug-in interface.

Get an education, Brianna..there are other, more descriptive words other than "fucking"...unless, of course, you're a 12 year old.

Fantastic - Thank You! You're one of the few I don't have to listen to at 1.5X speed! You allude to an editing course... how does one obtain access to said editing course without all the extra production stuff? Would love to learn from your editing course, but have no (current) desire for a production coach nor other lessons... maybe a mix/edit-centric purchase option, vice a producer-centric option in your offerings? I'm old school 8-track 1/2" Ampex 456 on an Otari MX5050 bringing it back into Logic Pro X to try to re-edit... would LOVE to see your edit course!
