NOTE: You can actually just swap out the Drum Kit Designer for any 3rd party plugin that keeps the GM MIDI Map order at ANY time. You don't have to convert the Drummer region to MIDI data.The focus of this video is using multiple different 3rd party plugins and sample libraries for each voice of the Drummer groove.

So I watched this and at first thought, perfect, yes, exactly. But then, it hit men that you can not only go this route - which is awesome once you’re committed to parts you want, but prior to that, you can open up a drummer track and then drop whatever plugin running GM into the top slot where Drum Kit Designer normally is after opening Smart Drummers in logic and BAM, you’ve got the Smart drummer track workflow routing into different tones. So nice for songwriting, exploration, jamming, that you can just get phat tones out of another VST with standard GM drum MIDI in and still have all the controls from the smart drummer workflow. Doing it now with ROLI drums.

This is pure gold. I’m not a drummer so using the Logic Drummer is handy but the sounds suck so I was wondering if this was possible. Thanks for the great tutorial.
@Clormo4 жыл бұрын
IMO, even better than memorizing the GM MIDI Map order and to be a bit more efficient for laying out quick stuff, simply prepare a template with separate tracks for kick, snare, etc with your favorite samples (I tend to use ultrabeat) and then when you do the whole separate by note pitch thing, drag each resulting MIDI region into each of the custom tracks you have with your samples that you typically use/favorites. Another thing you can do from there is obviously change the tone of the sample inside the custom track (depending on which one you use) and bam!, more possibilities without necessarily having other heavier plugins in play.

Hey Josh… few viewers will understand why you’re explaining this concept, but it’s really important. I have XO, Playbeat 3, NI Komplete 13 with Battery and 5 other drum instruments and I’d like to just be using DMD and Logic pattern regions. I want 1 Kit making tool and I want all my patterns in 1 place. Seems like a simple idea, right? Not so easy. I’m surfing around for advice on whether users of these 3rd party drum apps use the built in sequencer(s) or drag patterns into Logic?

You can also drag the drummer region onto an instrument track. That automatically converts it to midi. Then drag back onto the drummer track. Drag-drop-drag-drop. For me that often works faster than right-clicking and picking a menu-option. To each his own though...
@chilp97594 жыл бұрын
Quick question, I see that the MIDI region for each individual note pitch has a label to the left of it when viewing in the piano roll editor... the grey strip saying the instrument name. How does one bring that window up, say for ex, when working with the ESX24? I notice that it shows up at times when using the ESX24, but it vanishes when I move something. I would like to bring that column up at all times because I find it useful. Please let me know, Thanks!

If I like a part of the take but I still want to use record repeat and keep recording how do I set it up where I can assign a button to do record repeat (Ex the letter "R" on my keyboard) then another button to keep the take saved but at the same time repeat the recording (Ex the assigning letter R+K for repeat the recording and keep the take I just recorded. I am from Toronto and the way hip hop artist record here is they punch in each line and they freestyle different lines and then they find the lines they want to say so sometimes I want to keep the takes or just start them over. I want to do this faster because with record toggle I like how I can restart fast but once they find something they like and. want to keep the take I have to stop the recording then comp the bar then and the artists want to record right away and they get angry when they have to wait. A good example of what I'm trying to achieve is in this video where the artist is recording then the engineer either restarts the recording and deletes the take or restarts the recording and keeps the take But the recording never stops and there music is always playing in the artists headphones, kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5KVmWyIhZ1kmLs

Hi Love the vids, the shortcuts you use honestly make me feel stupid sometimes. The ease you can do some things, and I’m here going the loonnnggg way round. I have a question for you that I can’t seem to find a solution by using forums and google. When I use a summing stack for my tracks, why when I solo an aux, can I not hear the effect? Eg. I have all my drums in a summing stack. I want to add a plate reverb for my snare. When I set it all up and I want to listen to JUST the reverb, there’s no signal? Thank you 🙏

Great man!! That's the way I've used so far for drums in my music! Just a thing: do you know if it's possible to change the pan for the hi-hat sample for example, that usually is already panned to the right or the left in Logic? I tried to move the pan knob, but it doesn't sound good at all! Do you usually care about that? Thanks!

@MusicTechHelpGuy4 жыл бұрын
@@doegywhail728 Sounds like EZdrummer doesn't follow the GM Drum Map. Most drum instruments do. There's no real easy fix, you just have to manually move each drum to the correct note to match with the map of EZdrummer if that's the case.
@redsox114 жыл бұрын
You might be able to change the EZdrummer map to GM in settings. You can do it in SD3 and both programs are made by Toontrack so it’s likely possible.

@@devmobray I mix and master for a living. To master just a single song, it's $150 US. I do hybrid mastering, a combination of 3rd party plug-ins and analog equipment. However, it really depends on the genre of the song. A rock song for example I'd send through more analog equipment than an electronic track.
