I love using takes for recording doubled vocals. Put the section on loop, record it twice in a row, unpack the takes, and you have doubled vocals so easily. I also use it for recording harmonies and makeshift solo gang vocals. It makes doing this kind of stuff so quick and painless.

Uber helpful. I just recorded my daughter singing a cover last night and we recorded line by line using the take folders. In many cases 10-20 takes per line. So now I’ve gotta go through it all and your video explained that extremely well. I love the options for saving multiple comps.

This is such a great video. Something that came up for me was, how do you get a take folder from one project into another? Exporting, packing, blah, blah, blah, all seem to destroy the integrity of the take folder. In this remote-work age, this is pretty important. All the work I do in a take folder I want to be able to preserve as I pass it around to another engineer.

This was a great video. I’ve been using Logic since version 5 so I had my own work around to take folders before it was an option. Also when they first introduced them they were kind of buggy so I never really explored them. Thanks for this video the editing section IN the take folder just blew my mind!!!

I've been a Logic Pro user for FOREVER, but recently, I opened up a session, and it couldn't find a bunch of takes. I had named certain takes inside the folders via text tool, like I'd done for years. But this time I discovered that the text tool had renamed the AUDIO FILES in the Audio file folder on the HD, and that is why it could not find them. So I've been searching for some sort of answer as to what happened! I found one session where I was auditioning guitar amps, and it was 1 minute between the text tool renaming files, and not renaming. The function switched probably 8x within an hour that day! It seems like some sort of bug to me. After failing to find answers, I reformatted my internal HD, and reinstalled a clean OS and clean Logic. Also not the same versions! (was on Monterey and 10.7.4, then did a fresh install with all new installers of Ventura, and 10.8.1!). Seems insane to me. Any ideas? Been on LPX over a decade, and it's never renamed a file on me from using the text tool inside a take folder. Thanks!!!

Hello. I am producing an audiobook with 4 different mics which generates 2 separate stereo tracks. I created summing stacks as you showed us in your useful videos. My question is: Can I operate track alternatives in summing stacks? I mean, I want to edit all 4 mics at once and want to gather the best performance parts of the single VoiceOver artist with 4 mics, in the easiest way possible.

Great video! All of your videos are top notch! So I’m want yo edit the timing of a snare hit in a multitrack drum take folder of 1 take. All of my drum tracks are in a drum group for editing. If I use flextime to edit 2 measures of a take, will it mess with the timing of the other takes or just the one selected along with the other multi tracks of that take?

What I can't figure out is how to cut a single take. Every method I use to trim at take at a given point trims all takes at the same point, and if I delete a selection in one take it deletes the same region in all takes.

Thanks for this video, it is extremely helpful. Also, I’m doing your Finish the Mix course right now and my mixes are sounding better already. I do have a question about Midi take folders. Sometimes it seems like the take folders act differently for Midi instruments than they do for audio tracks. I am willing to admit there may be some “user error” going on but, when I try to use the quick swipe features for Midi instruments, sometimes I get wacky results. Is there something different in the way this works for Midi?

In my specific case I'm playing guitar over basically a "loop" of backing tracks, and I want to pull phrases from the different takes and move those around. Really great video, as always! I'm using the comping feature a lot but in a different way and I'm missing one feature when using it. Let me try to explain. So, I'm writing EDM songs most of the time. To create glitch effects, I do sometimes record out some sounds from different VST's or Synths. Once done, I select them all and do left click 'pack take folder'. Now I can select different parts from the different audio files but, the selections I want to make are never 'snapped to the grid'. So when working with 16th's or 8th's, maybe 32's, its very hard to get it right. I hope someone can help me out with that, maybe I'm overviewing something. Thanks for the great video as always! Cheers, Jazz.

I personally do not like Modern Music when it comes to the singing part. The whole point of singing and not just using instruments is that the voice is natural and it takes time to practice for and sing perfect notes but nobody cares about the perfectness, load up auto tune and you are done, which is really disappointing to me...
