Jean-Paul Van Bendegem is a mathematician and philosopher of science. He is a prominent professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and part-time guest professor at Ghent University. He is vice president of SKEPP (Research Society for Critical Evaluation of Pseudoscience and the Paranormal), president of the NCNL (National Centre for Logical Investigation), and chief editor of their quarterly magazine Logic and Analysis.↵Why listen to him?↵Jean-Paul Van Bendegem is a legendary professor of logic. He defends a strictly finite conception of mathematics, with no room for infinity. He calls himself a religious atheist.↵In his book 'Tot in der Eindigheid (1997)', he counterchallenges classical proofs of God by logical arguments and he rejects thoughts on infinity. His interest in the paranormal stems from his interest in the philosophy of science.↵

Wonderful talk, but a misleading title. TEDx, please adjust it to reflect the content of the talk if possible.

it is a speech which ends with a big question (shall we believe what he said or not?) which is answered in the speech already...or is it not? ^^. Thanks TED, it was funny and brilliant.

A clue: "He defends a strictly finite conception of mathematics, with no room for infinity." If you think about all the paradoxes and problems he mentioned, they all vanish when you consider a strictly finite conception of mathematics. I think he left the audience to ponder that, not realizing that most of the audience wouldn't make the connection.
