Lets not forget anime. At the end of last year Sony finished up buying up the majority of anime streaming sites in the west paying many billions each for sites like Crunchyroll, Funimation, VRV, Anime Lab, Madman just to name a few. Add that that the money they have invested in it in Japan it'sself & they are now the most influential anime company in the world & even own percent share in all their competitor in China as well. While it might not sound like it but anime is huge at the the moment with paid subscription looking more like Netflix that an anime only site. I'm in my late 50's & love anime the variety & types of things long forgotten in new woke world can still be found in anime stories that I find are as good as anything Hollywood has to offer. The Japenease pump it out like it's a mass production line, producing more than 300 new titles every year with at least a dozen episodes for each title & are now dubbing them in up to 10 different languages to boot. All I'm saying is Sony is far from dead & have unfathomable amounts of capital on hand & are expanding into many upcoming area's that are not on most peoples watch list. Their wiki page lists of only a small fraction of what they own but it's still a huge list on it's own & contains many of the who's who of companies of the world. AKA: Sony's doing pretty darn well if you ask me.

" In fact Sony's dominance chased Samsung out of this market. In 2014 Samsung introduced the NX1, which was years ahead of the competition at the time. Just about a year later, Samsung exited the digital camera market completely. Sony's profits in this area show that you can make money from it. Sony concentrates on making equipment that costs thousands and tens of thousands of dollars for professionals, industry, broadcast, and content creator markets all over the planet. There was a simular shift with the in-home VCR market. Once it became a commodity like TVs are today, Sony left it and went for supplying the higher margin, higher profit, higher technology broadcast and professional technology product sector. I was shocked when I was watching this video because you actually showed one of Sony's most popular and profitable cameras in your video montage while you were saying at the same time that Sony has lost that market. I read also in the comment section that you said that making parts such as image sensors proves your point but on the other hand all TSMC does is "make parts". When the parts that you make (because Sony image sensors are used in the iPhone) are used in hundreds of millions of products all over the planet and are considered to be the best on the planet, I can't call that a failure. There is a difference between commodity parts such as home TFT screens and image sensors and digital imaging processors which are highly advanced technologies that you may not see on the store shelves of a local electronic store in the form that you are used to thinking is a symbol of success.

I disagree in regard with video games, in my opinion Sony is becoming stagnant with the ps5: their games are becoming boring imitations of the last of us and Nintendo have wiped out Sony from the Japanese market, their game budgets are becoming ridiculously high and the returns are very little to the point Nintendo is the one that has the highest net profits of the big three. Also Sony all these past years have become complacent with just buying temporary exclusivity deals to hold their dominance, instead of building stable brands and characters, and now they’re suffering, they lose call of duty, Bethesda products, etc.

@@natanhaelalvarado6137 just Q1 this year we have final fantasy rebirth, helldivers 2 and stellar blade, all are critically acclaimed and doing very well. Which of these are a last of us clone? I don't know why people have this mentality where sony has to dominate the entire console video game production capacity, that's only going to make it very unattractive to developers, which is what's happening to Xbox right now. People who are buying a switch are not gonna buy a ps5, they're not the same category. Who cares what the japanese are doing, as far as I'm concerned, there are already a lot of JRPGs for the ps5. Losing COD and bethesda was out of their control. Why blame them for that?
@natanhaelalvarado61377 ай бұрын
@@InnerFire6213 final fantasy is not a Sony game is another temporary exclusive, the otter two are contracted games not made by Sony themeselves, is kinda like bayonetta for the Switch, these games that you mention could very well end up up on Xbox and switch 2 in a few years in the future. I’m talking about their in house made games that feels the same game over and over with different characters: third person, heavy emphasis on story and cinematics, etc. where are the : parapa the rappers, wipeouts, cool boarders, jumping flash, twisted metals, alundras, etc? All that variety is gone and all we have now are these overrated wannabe movies, I used to have a PlayStation since the ps one in 1996 but I jumped ship because of this trend. And it’s not about Sony has to dominate the entire console exclusive, it’s more about that they’re having noticeable problems, layoffs, etc. that’s why they have a new CEO that’s changing the way they’re making new games, the budgets are becoming ridiculous, the bungie buyout it’s a disaster because they have no idea what to do with them. Nintendo is the Sony antithesis: moderated budgets, disciplined development and date releases, no layoffs, variety in their games, not dependent on third parties to succeed, not hiring outsiders CEO’s but someone that have grown with the company, etc. That’s what Sony should do.

There were times when sony tv was the only way to go if wanted a good tv. Sony's walkman literally took over the entire world, later sony's discman. Their music systems, home theaters, cameras/camcorders were all top notch. When it comes to audio/video electronics, there was no other brand better than sony. Now their only product is playstation. There were other brands too and they weren't not bad either, every company tried to offer equally solid and competitive products. The competition was fierce, every company was forced to invent new things and techs on a constant basis. Now the entire consumer electronics market is monopolized/oligopolized by only two companies. As a result, there is literally no innovation after 2009. Such a sad state of affairs.

Sony audio products are still amazing. And people seriously underestimate their TV's. Their TV's offer the best upscaling tech. If you have a lot of old contend and you want your new 4K TV to not make it look awful then Sony is your best bet. Also i know Samsung is very famous now but for the love me i don't get it. The quality of their products is from bad to really bad. I had two Samsung Tv's and both had limited life span with sort of issues. I had an old CRT Sony Trinitron and an HD LCD and they are both still working decades later. Their Smartphones are full with explosive batteries and all their reasonably priced models become useless with updates. Chinese phone brands are actually much better but KZbin reviewers especially Americans have their own pet peeves. I just love when they praise new features in smartphones that Google, Samsung or Apple put in their phone meanwhile it was in some Chinese phone for 5 years now.
@brandonwiles-n8t Жыл бұрын
@@SIPEROTH It's because of the wide spread adoption of so called "planned obsolescence" idea. Now companies are not eager to build high quality, durable, long lasting items. In order to keep the revenue margin afloat, now companies are focused on developing cheap, hence, "okay" (or even low) quality items that are meant to be used for 2 years max, or even less. They even deliberately make items that will start giving problems within a year or so. Everyone is forced on rolling out new version of the same item with minimal improvements within a year. To amplify this effect, the consumer habit also have changed, now even people don't want to use the same item for more than a year, they have the urge to change the models for social acceptance. My parents used to have a Sony TV that lasted for more than 20 years, without any degradation of the quality, and we were quite happy with that and people too, used to value items with high quality and durability. They also had a pressure cooker that they inherited from my grandparents. Now we can't imagine doing something like that, the idea of growing nostalgia over an old, used item is gone, now things move so fast that I am not sure if I will be able to use my phone next year, and passing down my phone to my kids is out of the question.

I will say Sony has dominated the "pro-sumer" camera market for the past decade with their mirrorless alpha line. It seems that this footing is slipping now though with Canon and Nikon both pushing for more mirrorless systems that boast better features for cost.

The fudge?! This is a dumb ignorant comment I have read. I'm a professional photographer who uses Sony cameras and Sony is not losing any footing in the Camera market. They are still the #1 Mirrorless company as they have more selections of cameras that cost either less or on the same price tag as Canon and Nikon. What new features is Canon and Nikon boasting and has better cost that is better than any of Sony's cameras right now? How is Sony losing footing in the Camera market today? It's Nikon that is still trying to catch up with their Z7 and Z6. They had to drop the price tag a lot to sell their Z9 because it cannot compete with the A1 and R3. The only bad thing about Sony's cameras is Sony's lack of firmware update for their flagship cameras which they seriously do need to work on. Don't delete your comment and please answer my questions. Thank you!

I had a Sony phone that was slow to use the internet, or would just cut off completely because of it's limited aerial capability to connect to 5G. I was forced on to Samsung because they DID have those advancements I needed. I would say, In Sony's favour, they still make the best music player. I've had an iPod and now currently have a A55 Walkman, and music plays SO MUCH BETTER on that Walkman than it ever did on the iPod. The iPod was overhyped garbage that didn't play music nearly as well and didn't have an SD card slot.

I bought my very first Sony Transistor radio with money I earned from my paper rout circa 1964. I rubber banded the radio to my handle bars and listen to it rain or shine. It made me a solid Sony Customer but not anymore. I had problems with Sony TV's usually after the warranty expired. In one instance it developed a squeal in the sound and I contacted Sony for help as my TV was out of warranty. They told me it was out of warranty and would not pay the $367 to have it repaired at an authorized Sony repair shop. I sat down and wrote them a letter explaining my first Sony product was a transistor radio that I rubber banded to my bikes handlebars and rain or shine that Sony Radio always worked and it turned me into a Long-time Sony customer. Well to my surprise, I received a letter from Sony with a check for $367! They said it was a good will payment. That folks is the way things should be!

I say this to all electronic companies. It is often cheaper to buy a new piece of equipment than to have your out of warranty equipment repaired. It was first standard in the 70's that we had become "a throw away society" now it's almost universally accepted. Such a waste of ever diminishing resources 👎

I remember the Sony brand's dominance in the 90s and in 2006 when I used to work at a consumer electronics store. People don't ask much about Sony TVs and their features, they just buy them outright. Then some time in the 2010s, people buy or prefer Samsung or LG TVs. Even the Chinese brand TCL is beating Sony. Their proprietary formats like the Memory Stick and M2 card, despite being used for the Sony Ericsson brand and PSP were beaten by SD cards and micro SD. Nowadays, it's pretty much only the Playstation and their camera sensor business that keeps them alive. And it's not guaranteed they'll be on top of those segments in the next decade.

The reason I stopped buying Sony is because they stopped making great products, especially for the price. I also grew tired of proprietary software,cables, and memory cards. Two of my Sony mp3 players use different cables instead of usb c. My brother's camera used a different sd card replacement that was really expensive. These anti consumer practices by forcing us to use products worse than industry standard that are a lot more expensive, and in the instances of my cable, you can't even buy a replacement. I need to buy a whole new mp3 player should my cable die out or i lose it. A lot of other companies caught up to Sony and you were just paying for a name that treated their customers poorly. Their warranties are impossible to get them to fulfill, I've tried numerous times. So consumers just went to cheaper companies with worse products, because the quality of everything drastically dropped, or they went to slightly cheaper companies that treat their customers better with quality on par with Sony

Everybody blamed the Japanese for unfair competition, but in all honesty, Sony's products were simply better, so they succeeded. Then, as you explained in all detail and very sound, Sony almost disappeared and the only product I purchased was a PlayStation for my son. 11:00 I agree there's very little reason for dedicated cameras now outside of professional photography, but not literally no reason. The obvious one is the optical zoom. Phone cameras might be able to zoom in a bit but they can't touch a good optical zoom on even a relatively cheap compact camera. They're also quicker to use, with physical buttons. Physical buttons are very important in a situation you might have wet hands, or have it in a waterproof case where a touchscreen is difficult to use. And another reason is just they're just less valuable. There are some activities that don't justify an action cam, and you also want to be able to take none-fisheyed regular photos, but you also don't want to risk dropping / damaging / exposing to the elements your £600 mobile computer ("phone") that if something happened to it could leave you stranded without a means of communication, cost a fortune to replace not just in money but also time in shopping round for a suitable replacement and transferring all your stuff and getting it all configured the way you like it. Some of these are fairly niche requirements admittedly, but there are still some situations a dedicated/compact camera is still useful.

I guess its the bad management.

I currently own and use Sony TV Xperia 1 III XM4 headphones XM3 earbuds Sony wireless speaker And of course a long history of other products I have of this brand that have been with me for a long time. I will forever trust Sony as they are the most reliable products out there.

Sony's biggest problem is that it never entered the PC and gaming accessories market: Sony monitors, keyboards or mouse would have introduced the company to another market (obviously this market is super competitive, but Sony had the necessary backing to expand).

Sony TVs are too expensive. Too many competitors have equal or better products for a lower price.

for me its mid 00"s that they raised their prices so high on audio products that i had to go to alternative brands. though their quality is indeed great, my 42" flat led t.v i bought in 2010 still works fine with no issues.

Mine is from 2007. Still working great and my wife uses it 2+ hours a day. I want to move to OLED but that won't be until this TV dies.
