My G703 and my father's G603 had the same wheel issue.
I wanted to fix by myself so I bought 10 encoders on Aliexpress about a year ago and fixed them.
My friend has G403 and he was so annoyed with the wheel scrolling issue(goes opposite directions randomly) so I replaced the encoder like this.
All three mice are fine so far.
There is a simple way using small piece of paper as well, so please refer to others' videos.
Putting the paper piece in the hole of encoder makes the wheel hold the encoder tightly.

In case people dont research the problem enough and stumble into this video right away: 1. Update the firmware (sometimes it fixes the issue). 2. Open the mouse, remove the wheel from the encoder and put a piece of paper. This fills the gap and the wheel doesn slip. 3. Put a new encoder as in this video. For me the paper worked like magic even that Logitech had some sticky oily residue it wasnt enough I guess.

@@albertb.2676 i couldnt find it on the website, maybe they removed it by now. You have to download Logitech G Hub. When you plug your mouse it should be seen by the software and there it will say that it needs to be updated. Also you can change the DPI step settings, button functions and other stuff for different Logitech products.

Firmware and thickening the spindle didn't work for me on a 603 that I left in the cupboard until after its warranty expired like an idiot. Buying a new Arctis mouse did though.... I know for sure the wheel pickup (encoder?) bit on the mouse is gripping the mouse wheel spindle and spinning with it properly so the piece has to be cast. That's a fantastic soldering iron.

Even though they seem cool, both are overpriced and very unnecessary. Especially the soldering iron, which requires a cable anyways, just like an AC one, and is slower to heat up (also after consecutive solderjobs) and offers no real benefit for the average user.

The permanent solution will be replacing the TCC 9mm encoder that you can buy on eBay for $1.50. However, you have to wait for about 2-3 months because they're shipped form China or Hongkong. In addition, if you don't know soldering, then it's not a good way to fix the problem. Putting a piece of small paper works, but it' has a drawback. If you look carefully, the tiny hexagonal wheel shaft tightly fits the hex hole of the TTC encoder. If you put a piece a paper, the wheel won't move smoothly. Further, the wheel eventually stops working again, and you will need to replace the entire wheel. Here is my solution. If you know soldering, go to eBay and buy two TTC 9mm encoders for $2.50. While waiting for the encoders, use DeoxIT D5 lubricant and spray on the encoder. Remember to put a napkin under the encoder to avoid the lubricant flowing to the mouse's main board. Since the gaps of the encoder are really small, we need to spray the D5 lubricant several times and wait for about 10 minutes or longer for the D5 to dissolve the oxidation inside the necoder. The second step is to add silicon grease to the hex hole of the encoder. Again, since the hole is really small, we only need to add a little drop of the silicon grease. Finally, reassemble all parts, and the G403 is again working like a champ. We may not need to replace the encoder. Just keep them. Final advice: use DeoxIT D5 and silicon grease only. Do not use other lubricants or machine oil. They don't work.

Found you need a JIS 00 screwdriver (trusty o'l philips 00 was popping out really easy, but could work). You don't need to take out or unplug the battery, just the light shroud on the flywheel and the two screws for the encoder PCB. You don't need to reinvent the wheel when all you needed was a shim ;-) Simple, Stupid FTW!! wonder how long it'll last though ;-P Definitely will probably end up doing this in the future LOL for now i put a piece of paper that when folded (3 times) added up to about 1.5mm. That got rid of the slop (looseness) and alleviated the issue 100%.. for now. It was very quick and i didn't need to heat up the foot pads to remove them, they come off easily if you dig your fingernail underneath (butter knife if you don't have any nail). Try that first, and if it stuck on there then heat it up.

Hi! Do you know if the tactility of the scroll wheel is generated by the encoder? I used an industrial air compressor the clean my wired G403 and it now the scroll wheel is completely smooth and does not have any incremental bumps per scroll click. Would replacing the encoder resolve this issue? I was looking into getting the ALPS Japan 9mm mouse encoder but definitely would like some feedback (no pun intended).
@3ildcat
@3ildcat 4 жыл бұрын
The stock encoder has more tactility than TTC's. Now it's smoother than before but I still feel the tactility. And of course it works perfectly. Does your one work well without the tactility? I found out that the wheel and hole of encoder don't fit so this issue occurs. The three mice I've fixed all work well so far. I heard that alps one is also good. :)
@chenrigy
@chenrigy 4 жыл бұрын
@@3ildcat Thanks for the reply. The stock encoder works perfectly fine when scrolling despite not having any tactility. I've opened up older Logitech models such as MX500 to G400 and there is always a coil spring with one end inserted into slits on the scroll wheel to generate tactility. So I just wanted to confirm whether it was the encoder that was damaged or some other component used to generate the tactility. I can see the encoder being damaged when I used the air compressor outputting 60psi to spray directly into the grooves; probably stripped anything in it's way as the scroll wheel was spinning. I'll order a set of the ALPS and let you know it turns out!
