Infamous left / right / middle button click problem for logitech M570. I know for some people, M570 works fine. But those of us with one from the unlucky batch, M570 has been giving us unwanted headaches.
anyway, hope this video helps :)
Switch part numbers:
Left/Right buttons: Omron D2F-01F (Japanese made). not to be confused with Chinese made D2FG-F-7N. The parts are different. Japanese omron's leaf spring is made of different material and is a 2 piece leaf spring. Chinese omrons and m570's switches are one piece leaf spring.
Middle button: Omron BF3-1000 (tactile switch 6x6x4.3mm)

Had the same issue. Got 3 years before the left click started acting up. Followed the instructions, took her apart, but before surgery decided on some trusty CONTACT CLEANER as a first step. Did the trick - she's good as new! Thanks for the great help.

Thanks for the video! I tried to pry the trackball open for a solid 15 minutes, because I wasn't aware of the fifth screw. "You have to carefully remove the sticker", screw it, I just poked it with the screwdriver. :-p

I **VOID** warranties... On a $20-50 trackball, they're especially moot if I'm doing this repair. Upshot? The thing will be ultra reliable compared to the prior switches. The click switches won't fail you.

I'm on M570 numbers 3&4 & just like numbers 1&2, I began to experience the left button double clicking around the 1yr mark. It drove me crazy but I love this mouse & was very reluctant to do a model change. When the M570 is working properly, it's the 8th wonder of the world (at least in my world that is...lol) Thanks for making this video!!! I changed both switches as u suggested (it just makes sense) & just finished testing & closing them up. All is right in my world again, at least until next tax season that is...lol

Thanks for posting this!! My mouse is working like new again. Had to loosen a few of the screws on reassembly to allow right click to work properly and the de-soldering of the original switches had me eventually slowly loosening with iron and prying with precision screwdriver between switch and circuit board. They finally came off. Then cleaned up the holes w/soldering iron & solder sucker.

Thank you so much for this. Clear explanation that tells me this is beyond the tools I have at home. Maybe I should be grateful -- mine's lasted almost 2 years, I think. But you are SO right about the thumball mouse. This thing has saved me from crippling carpal tunnel and can be used in a very small workspace because you don't need to move it. I've been using one since the mid-90s also and I also hope that Logitech is watching and listening. There is definitely a market for their products -- and I would DEFINITELY pay more for better quality.

Thank you for the instructions, I was nearly convinced that there was a snap together component(battery screw location was missed). The instructions were perfect in showing me the error of my ways. Saving to Spotify playlist...now. Thanks again!

I've repaired my M570 following the instructions in this video! Thank you. I do not have a solder sucker, so I had to manually, very slowly, desolder two microswitches (one from M570, other from older mouse). Took me a bloody hour. Thankfully, my M570 works amazing now. Oh, and I do not know an exact model of the new microswitch, but if it works, that's fine by me. Took it from an old HP mouse (a mechanical one :), which they were shipping with their Proliant servers some time ago.

It doesn't have to be a microswitch issue. After opening the trackball I found out that faulty microswitch is just loose. Using soldering iron I soldered the microswitch again (wormed up soldering points) and now it is working without problems. I believe that in some cases the microswitches are fine but the soldering points are broken... Thanks for the video. It helped a lot!

Thank you so much! Great video - I followed the instructions and the buttons are working a treat - just like new! I think I lucked out with this particular M570 - I've had it for about 6 years and it only got really annoying in the last few months. Did make a mistake in ordering Omron D2F01FD3 switches initially - but they don't fit. Has to be the D2F01F. In UK this was a drag as RS Components were charging a £10 special-order fee for a minimum order of 10. Made the potential cost £23 so went with Amazon Prime as being 10 days faster and a 10th of the price.

I had this kind of button problems with other mice from Logitech and Microsoft. Most people would just throw the mouse away and buy a new one. But it is just the tiny switches that are malfunctioning; the rest of the mouse is perfectly fine. It seems a terrible waste of resources and unnecessary polluting of the environment. I wish there should be a law to force mouse manufactures to make it easy to replace the switches without soldering. That should be technically very easy for the manufacturers to implement; they don't do that, probably because they want you to buy new ones.

I went a different way, didn't need to solder. I did pop the switch open and replace flat part that seems to get saggy after heavy use. It was tricky to put it back as it's small and you need to put it precisely where it was. Works like a charm now. I'm using M570 for years.

THANKS! Finding this allowed me to repair my M570 instead of replacing it. After reading some of the comments I tried the canned air repair first. This was only partially effective. @Alan Trevor Your comment doesn't have a "reply" button??????? how? anyway, thanks for commenting on another possible fix. Well, I've taken the leaf spring out of the switch and cleaned it and bent it straight and it worked for a while. then later, the symptoms came back. so it wasn't a permanent fix. besides, why should anyone have to open up a mouse and do something to the micro switch to get it to work? it should just work. a year and a half later, the omrons are still working perfectly as the day i installed them. so for me, for a Permanent fix, it was the omrons that did it.
@rhoharane
@rhoharane 8 жыл бұрын
+d di Yeah. I spray my microswitches too. The fix isn't permanent. I have to open it up every couple of months to spray it and it needs a few sprays before it works consistently again and I'd have to wait a few months before it starts acting up again. I'd rather just get new microswitches.

Thank you for your video. I replaced the left/right switches with OMRON D2F-01F purchased from Amazon. These are the 'Made in Japan' switches. Using an oscilloscope, the 'Made in China' original Omron switch clearly showed switch jitter. On one of my trackballs, I also replaced the backward/forward button switches; I used 8-1437565-0 tactile switch. The backward switch had been damaged. I already have the repair tools so the repair was done for fun! However, it probably makes more sense to just buy a new trackball unless you like the challenge. Time will tell if the origin of manufacturer actually makes a difference.

Thanks for the video I can now bring all my M570's back to life. I've been saving the ones that have the left click problem. You are right about finding quality wireless trackballs. I am using an ELECOM M-DT2DRBK right now. It's a good wireless trackball but is lacking when it comes to precision pointer movement. Never understood why people use a mouse or laptop fingerpad when a trackball is far superior.

I have the same issue, and as I do a lot of music programming, which needs precise cursor control as well as lots of highlighting & drag / drop, a dodgy button is a nightmare. The problem is that the M570 is the perfect design for me. Curiously I have found a short term solution to be either to lever the button cover up a bit & to give one almighty blow in there, or to give it a good going over with a can of compressed air, with the nozzle inside. It's not a permanent fix, but it works as a temporary makeshift.
@lemonslice2233

I got two solutions. One was pressing the button in the bottom left corner. Not comfortable. The second, and my preferred since I don't use the back and forward buttons was to install the Logitech software and set those leftmost buttons to the left click, and turn the damned left click button off. Adapt the solution as necessary for the buttons you have trouble with. Motor City says they started putting new switches in. A very important guy at Logitech (about.me/jkbinay) confirmed this.

Try opening up the shell and spraying contact cleaner on the switches. That'll clean it much better than compressed air. It solved the double click issue for me, at least for now.

Thanks for the video, much appreciated! But for the life of me, I couldn't get out all of the solder in the switch pins. I tried a cheap solder pump, didn't work so well, so purchased a desolder iron with pump which works a little better. But I just can't seem to get it all out, it's so frustrating and hopefully I didn't burn the contacts. I leave the iron on there for like 10-15 sec which is definitely enough time to melt the solder, but can't seem to get all the solder out. QUESTION: Did you add flux to the area before trying to desolder the pins? I even tried adding a little bit of solder (sounds counterproductive) b/c I heard it helps by contacting the existing solder way down in the pins, and so when you heat it up, it adheres better to be able to suck out...but still no luck for me. All this time and money in trying to fix the thing. Would've been easier purchasing a new one : ) but it's ok, I haven't soldered anything since the Xbox mod way back in the days. Probably why I couldn't get it right. Haven't done it in awhile, but wanted to learn and do it since I use the mouse for home and at work. Also purchasing a clip holder (not sure what its called) would help as well. Please LMK what you think and anyone else. Thanks!

My Trackman Wheel (P/N 804360-1000; M/N:T BB18) is like the middle one shown at the start of the video. I removed the four screws holding the base to the top and discovered that the small plastic part that pushes on the left click microswitch was very, very slightly "notched" from years of use. I fixed the problem (we'll have to see how long this lasts) by simply cutting out a tiny piece of pressure sensitive label stock and pasting it on the H-shaped plastic part that presses on the microswitch when doing a left click. The piece I cut out covered the H--including the notch, which was in the crossbar of the H. Seems to work fine now. The thickness of the paper is greater than the depth of that very shallow notch in the plastic part, and if that fix does not last for years, my next step would probably be to place a tiny drop of epoxy in that very tiny notch, hoping that it will bond and fill the gap. Either way, sticky label stock or epoxy, requires considerable care since the space to work and the angle makes requires dexterity and a steady hand. Hope this info helps others.
@aenubis666

This is what killed mine. The microswitch worked fine, but apparently the plastic developed a divot from the pressure I put on it. There are actually a handful on the market now, some made for gaming, 5+ buttons, laser optics, etc. The elecom software is a bit lacking, but I really like the hardware thus far, borrowing the not black ball from the M570 at least.

Had a really hard time taking them out, even with the sucker only one of the 6 came out cleanly, the rest i had to put more solder and so on to, ended up pushing the pins though, probably excessive heat and burned the pcb Gonna order a new one and practice more on a beat up mobo i have laying around. Either way thnx man the guide was very comprehensive and i did get some xp out of it.

@TheCBCronin
@TheCBCronin 9 жыл бұрын
If you want to fix your corded version, the problem is often linked to the plastic piece attached to the left click mouse button (on the face that makes the connection to the micro switch) developing a small divot in it. You can get some mixable epoxy and fill in that divot, lightly sand it flush after 24 hrs, good as new. The orginal corded versions lasted me eight years each (of non stop gaming), before Logitech went over to a cheaper plastic. I had 2 that lasted me 16 years, the third after the change lasted one. The middle corded version was discontinued and the wireless one is made so cheaply that it is worthless.

Question, the "middle button" u reference above, is that for the wheel that sits in between the right click button and left click button?

Thank you very much for this video! I just replaced the micro switches in my trackball and it seems to work fine. Removing the old micro switch was very hard so I had to swear a lot ;-) haha

Strange, that tyou had so much trouble with you M570. I have my since Dec. 2010, and still work like a charm. Never had trouble with it. But anyway, thank you for your Video. If my buttons break, I'll know how to switch.

I have the one in the center "red ball" bought it in 2008, I'm still using it today but the right side button doesn't do much anymore, nothing happens when I push the right pad. Thanks for the Video, hopefully I can get those micro switches changed out or at least the R/H side pad.

I could fix my Trackman. To expand the swisches was quite tricky, but the rest was easy. Thanks for the instructions. :-)

I have a M570 about a couple of years old which started having the same left click issue.I opened it up following the instructions, checked the switch it seemed to work fine. A Reddit user mentioned checking the underside of the mouse button that pushes against the switch and using tape on it. I checked, seems I have been using a lot of force on that button because the hard plastic Logitech uses to make the button was deformed slightly where it presses against the switch. I just put a piece of tape over that deformed spot and it fixed the issue with my trackball.

Does anyone have a fix for a failing "accessory" button? The lower custom button (programmable) on the left side of the mouse is starting to fail and go lame. They are much smaller, with a diaphragm style switch instead. Anyone have any recommendations? Again, this isnt your right or left click main mouse buttons, or the middle button/scroll, but rather the two small buttons by the power indicator light.

I fixed a (right) button problem on Trackman Wheel like that: First of all i figured the problem was that the button wouldn't go down enough in order to press the electronic tactile button switch inside (which was working fine itself). So i took a small wire cutter and trimmed the edge of the plastic button on the shell of the mouse. This made it possible for the mouse button to move a bit further down and successfully trigger the switch inside each time it was pressed.

So my Trackman Wheel is still in use (over a decade) with everyday use. My click-maniac-destroy-everything-facebook-junkie 13 year old daughter is using it too. I had to fix the scroll wheel once due to the countless facebook scrolling she does which caused the mechanism inside to go out of place, but that went fine too. The micro switches inside are working just fine.

It's a B3F tactile switch, not a B-F-3....the F and the 3 are transposed. Thanks for posting this video. I'm going to fix the 3 M570's I got sitting around now.

Thank you, you are awesome!! One thing though, the middle mouse button (tactile switch) is B3F-1000 on amazon, and not BF3. Cheers!

Thanks a lot! I also have a 90's logitech trackball working as the first day, and, from the three M570 I bought a couple of years ago, one has always had problems with its right button. Microswitches de-soldered; first thing tomorrow after work, buying new ones. And no, I don't understand why Logitech, a first tier brand, spoils its otherwise wonderful product with those defective switches.

I've got that exact same model and have the exact same issue. Thank you! But the track mouse I miss the most is the one with the ball in the middle and you left or right clicked on either side of the ball; my thumb is little twitchy now, but I can't live without the M570 now; in fact while cleaning it, I tried to go to my "imaginary" mouse on the couch.

I've got a way that works without replacing the switches. At least for a few months. Turns out that the switches get full of stuff like dust, skin cells, food, etc. Blowing them out with "canned air" is not enough. However, if you turn the can upside down and spray, some very cold propellant is released. (Keep away from eyes and skin.) Spray this liberally (away from you) on the switches. And voila! The switch works like new. I've had it working for about a month now and it still works. Even if I had to do it every few months or so, it is easy to do. It may not work in all cases, but it is worth a try. BTW, my M570 is at least 3 years old. Cheers, Ed

the one on the left with the teal ball is awesome, i have one that has seen heavy use (worn off logo and some shiny spots and some scratches on plastic) and is yellowed some but it works fine.

My m570 trackball lasted a few years, but I had to buy recently a new one, for the old one have to be finger-clicked on the left very hard to make it do anything on the screen. Too bad I am all thumbs, and I don't know how to solder at all. Besides, I don't have the tools to do this job. I just wonder where I can buy the OMRON micro-switches, and how many I need to replace. It seems that in your comments you said a D2F-01F and a BF3-1000. Are these two the only ones which are needed? By the way, I was able to open the plastic cover, but it seems the screws to remove the logic board are too tiny for any of my philips screw drivers. Thanks for this video.
