I bought the mini and the full size versions of the MX Mech keys. I love it. People need to realize this is a productivity keyboard, not really designer to be customized gamer keyboard. It is a wireless mech keyboard that works flawlessly out of the box. It wasn't designed for people who like to tinker or game. It was designer for like a office atmosphere where typing is what you will be doing. Great quality, and works great IMO.

I agree the MX Mechanical Keyboard is not the best mechanical keyboard on the market, but I still think it is a very good keyboard overall: 1. The “Logi ecosystem” such as Logi flow, provide a very appealing and technically the best experience for multi device switching. It is the killer feature that won my heart. 2. The Battery life of the Logi Mx family keyboard is superb, it last up to 10 months of a single charge, no one in the market can optimise power consumption like Logi (and Microsoft, but Microsoft don’t have mechanical keyboard, yet Mac keyboard layout) 3. Logi Bolt is the successor of its Logi Unify USB connection, provide up to six devices in one single USB port, and better stability and connectivity than regular Bluetooth connection. It is £149 not a cheap one but I think with the advantages above, it is still a very excellent keyboard for system admins, developers who need to switch multiple computer, office people and 80%+ of the layman market.

I agree with all your points. But still a keyboard should be first of all a good keyboard. This is a terrible keyboard with a lot of commodities. I'm happy about the battery and the bolt and whatever but if the keyboard sucks as a typing device I can't recommend it.

I appreciate your opinion on the keyboard, and your expert perspective on it, but I also find your conclusion extremely harsh, especially considering this keyboard is oriented at a much different consumer than typical mechanical keyboards are. Here's **MY** situation: I've been looking for a mechanical keyboard for Mac with a Swiss layout for ages, and the only one I found is the "Swiss Developer Keyboard" by WASD Keyboards, which is around 25% more expensive than the Logitech MX Mechnical Mini. That WASD Swiss Mechanical Keyboard seems to be slightly better for my job (I haven't tested it yet though), but I'm honestly super excited that FINALLY a major brand is producing a proper, cross platform mechanical keyboard that is made for average consumers, office workers, writers, ... and many more people, outside of the US, and supports Mac and all kinds of languages (including Swiss) officially, BY DEFAULT. From a mechanical keyboard expert's point of view, this Logitech model might be garbage. I'm not going to argue with that, that's not my point. But it should be obvious that this keyboard was not made as a serious competition to the usual mechanical keyboards for gamers and enthusiasts. That market is full enough anyway already. It's more likely made for average consumers, writers, note takers, and anyone else, that simply want that mechanical experience. Especially for me, in Switzerland, working mostly on Mac, this keyboard is unique. It's one of only two in the world, as far as I know. That says a lot. Logitech is reaching people that otherwise almost certainly wouldn't really find any mechanical keyboard for their simple needs. And this deserves credit. I personally, and many people that will consider this keyboard, don't really want to customise the keyboard, nor do they have expert knowledge and experience on mechanical keyboards. I just wanted to give you my personal perspective and why this keyboard is not as worthless as you say it is. I'd appreciate if you wouldn't generalise your view and say that people shouldn't buy this keyboard at all, because you obviously haven't considered other perspectives. OR, do you have a few keyboards you could recommend for Mac, with a Swiss layout? If you do, I'd appreciate recommendations a lot! But if not, the WASD Developer and this MX Mechanical are literally the only choices I have, and they both look decent for my use cases. I don't care about Logitech, I don't feel offended, I appreciate people being honest about products. But clearly you missed some important points that deserved to be mention. I mean: you're literally saying: DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT even though I have barely any choice if I want a mechanical keyboard. There's a reason I STILL after SO MANY YEARS don't have one. And this product makes it finally feel in reach for me.
@matt3o2 жыл бұрын
thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it. If I told you to buy this keyboard I would be lying to you. The best way to be honest with you is to tell exactly how I feel about this product. This is my opinion, you came to a different conclusion. Our opinions can safely coexist. The keyboard quality (also the internals as I showed) doesn't reflect its price. That is pretty much undisputable. There are other factors in play like the Swiss layout in your case. You have to decide if these other factors are more important than the fact that the keyboard itself (as a typing device) is mediocre.
@m.testing13162 жыл бұрын
@@matt3o I understand. Sadly there are a lot of products where its quality doesn‘t justify the price, especially with big, profit oriented brands. That‘s why I usually try to avoid big brands. But I still think it‘s important to look at products from different perspectives and think about which end user it‘s intended for. And then there‘s the fact that some brands take advantage of a unique market position to set prices quite high. This can be done when the product is unique and no one else has it, or if the brand is very highly regarded or super well known. Logitech has, in my view, both of those things with this product. They‘re by far not the only ones taking advantage of such a position. But the only way to fight it in this particular case, is when other brands come in with similar products, but better and/or more affordable. I‘m not sure about other countries, but for anyone looking for a mechanical keyboard with Swiss layout, for macOS, this Logitech model seems to be the only option (apart from the WASD keyboard, but that one is made for developers specifically and doesn‘t exist in consumer friendly shops).

I'm also a mac user, have been using this keyboard (brown switch) for about a month mostly for writing codes, and occasionally switch to ipad or iphone. The experience is pretty decent, the sound and the feedback of the mechanical keyboard key is quite pleasant (as someone who never use a new gen mechanical keyboard). However, compared to the original mx mini for mac, the doubling of the price is just too much.

@kdietz652 ай бұрын
I get where you're coming from. What I see as it's reason for existence is that it's one of the very few 75% low profile keyboards on the market, and the only one I know of from a mainstream manufacturer with better QA resources than other manufacturers. It looks nice on the desk. The layout is compact. The battery life is excellent. The wireless connectivity seems much better than Nuphy or Keychron. The Logi Bolt receiver means you can use one receiver with other Logitech devices, such as the MX Master 3s mouse. It's more for businesses and people that just want to buy a keyboard and use it, vs. keyboard enthusiasts who want to mod their keyboards. For people who are not uber picky about the feel and sound of keyboards, it types just fine. Sounds to me like there are plenty of reasons for it to exist. If it had VIA/QMK support I would buy one for every computer I own. Without VIA/QMK support, it's not a good keyboard for Linux computers because Logi Options+ doesn't run on Linux.
@camelcase811 Жыл бұрын
Well, I like mine. I use it mainly as a productivity tool (at which it excels in my opinion) and some gaming sessions too. The bolt receiver is pretty good, plenty responsive enough for gaming. I have the brown tactile switches which sound and feel pretty great to me. I do agree that the board is somewhat diminished if we can't change the key caps though - a fact made even worse if it was a problem easily avoidable. Logitech really need to sort that out.
@hcoberdalhoff2 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the appeal of this keyboard is the quality of the antenna and logic while being a basic mech board. We did try several wireless keyboards that also supported Bluetooth, and most of them are inferior to e.g. the MX keys from logitech in signal stability or latency. We (as our company) we’re thinking about getting these new boards for new employees because of the proven wireless and massive customer support support infrastructure of logitech. Thank you for pointing out the problems.

thanks for your honest review, but it seems like a lot of personal issues here. Firstly, I don't think this keyboard is for the traditional mechanical keyboard fans, it's just a productive tool to replace or provide one more option to the MX lineup. Secondly, I don't like your keycaps at all, their lineup is meant for low-profile styles. So I really don't care if I can swap to other keycaps for now. The other thing that keeps me buying mx line is the logitech flow as I have to work between 3 computers everyday. I'm sure you can build whatever keyboard you want, but your review is actually not helpful to the targeted market here, maybe to the keyboard fans like yourself.

@chaseliu50112 жыл бұрын
@@matt3o ture, but I strongly disagree the overpriced part. most of users don't care about customization, Logitech did not mention that as part of the feature so it's illogical to think you are even suppose to do customization on this keyboard. That's why I think your argument here is unfair and not helpful. You can say it lacks the ability of customization, but saying it's bad because it didn't do what it wasn't designed to do is your problem. A good product that has universal value should provide a good usability and user experience, which is not just the product itself, it includes many more.

2:38 Minor correction: it's a Logi Bolt, not Unifying dongle. I overall agree with your points. Those keycap legends annoy me and there was no reason to make the spacebar nonstandard. I wouldn't go as far as calling it "rubbish" though. It's fair to say there are valid alternatives. IMHO, there are a couple of things that make the keyboard appealing to some people: 1. Non-ANSI layouts available. Keychron did some ISO options on their 75% keyboards, but not on the 100%. And, if Logitech made an ISO-IT, it would be the only low-profile mechanical keyboard on the market, to my best knowledge. 2. It comes with a dedicated USB receiver with encrypted communication. One could take the encryption for granted, yet I discovered a month ago that the Nuphy Air75 receiver was not (they admitted so in their Discord).

@@matt3o I agree that it is overpriced and it would make more sense if it costs around 100 euros. But I don't think the majority of target buyers are gonna mind the keycaps and that the spacebar has a non-standard stab position. Also don't like the fact that you can't have a wired connection. No swappable keys etc Way too overpriced for this product. Can you please make a video to recommend a keyboard for non-gamers

I think keyboard e enthusiast should debunk the fact that all cheap rubberdome keyboard are bad. Under a certain level of quality a mechanical keyboard is not better than a well done cheap mechanical keyboard but it cost a lot more. This is my opinion but I would like to know what you think about it.

I agree. This keyboard in particular is worse than a decent rubberdome

@@matt3o I needed a cheap keyboard to use it a home for sporadical working at home as a developer and self-formation. I decided to go with the Perixx 106m, a retro keyboard inspired by the model m. It' just a membrane with abs keycaps and not bluethooth but the sound is good (imho) and it feels ok. I am not really a fan of mechanicals keyboard because the buttons stops immediately when they hit the board without any cushioning (I think others refers at this as mushiness). Topre looks like what I was searching but they are too pricey to justify the expenses for at home use. Keycaps are laser printed and the keyboard being beige I think will look ok even when keycaps will start to shine (something that eventually even pbt will do afaik). There are not many review in the web. But to me that is a *good enough* membrane keyboard that is actually also nice to look at it. So if you would like to test a good cheap membrane keyboard I recommend this model, the Perixx 106m, even though keep in mind that I am not and expert in keyboard.

"I cannot change the spacebar so this keyboard is crap" 🤣 ok bro

let's put it in simple words. Keyboard is expensive crap. Only thing that could slightly improve it is custom keycaps but you can't change them, so you've now got a nice 150$ paperweight.

@@matt3o you are right with all the cons of the keyboard. One things that you need to consider is the bluetooth. I bought a Logitech membrane keyboard for my mother at 40/50€ only for the bluetooth pairing becaue the other brands have not a stable and easy pairing
@matt3o2 жыл бұрын
@@gabrieledoria2896 40/50euro is expensive for a rubberdome... but still okay. You pay for the brand, does what you need (bluetooth) and few regrets. This is a 160euro keyboard we are talking about!

@@matt3o are there other known brands that sell a keyboard with good software for bluetooth, mechanical switches and low profile for less than 150€?

Bunch of gamers and keyboard "hobbyists" not understanding this keyboard isn't meant for them. Logitech makes gamer keyboards too, but this is for office workers, writers, etc. For that purpose, it's awesome. The blue switch version anyway.

This is not a review at all. I would understand if this keyboard were advertised as hot swappable and it's not. This keyboard is not the one where you have an expectation to replace the keycaps. I do not understand what kind of review this is. You did not test or shown any other feature of this keyboard except keycaps and not being able to replace them. It looks to me like reviewer bought it by accident and now bragging on KZbin about it. What about linear switches and tactile brown one which are other options for this keyboard (not just blue one you used on the one you reviewed).
@ashleyleonardoginsberg80122 жыл бұрын
Is there a keyboard you recommend with a mini layout & arrow keys? I recently bought your Elvish key caps and I was looking at this keyboard to use with it, but I’m glad I watched this video since the space bar can’t be swapped! Hot swappable would be nice, but not a must have.

Typical logitech... just almost there... However, what logitech does VERY well that other companies do not, is the ease of the wireless (with their unifying receiver, and their logibolt receiver). You can use them in BIOS as opposed to other BT wireless keyboards, you cannot. You need a driver with certain programs, where logitech you cannot. If anything, Take the PCB, and mod it with standard stabilizers, and get a custom plate. Now you have a keyboard worthy of you "end game". Be the avenger!

I was looking for this answer also. I read through some of the comments and @Matt3o said this "I'm using a NiZ with bluetooth with no problem and a Filco Minila."
