The thing that I love about the g513 (lit from middle of key) is that the rgb light only shows through the key. There is no bleeding of light that shows in between keys like all other rgb keyboards I've seen

Both models can use any of the switches that Logitech provides. You can choose which one you want. The keyboards are the same thing except the 512 doesnt come with the extra key caps or the wrist rest, THATS IT!!

on the 512, the secondary chars are not illuminated like the 513... the 513 has the centered key font as well. which i prefer. couple that with the nice rest, key caps and puller.... im going the 513.

Romer-G switch is nice to game and type in my opinion but the keycaps are easier to break, comparing to classic MX-like keycaps, at least on my G-Pro. Replacement isn't available in all the countries the keyboard is sold. I live in Hong Kong and they don't sell replacement keycaps and I had to get a set in Canada when I was travelling in there.

I actually really love clicky blue style mechanical switches. It's great that a lot of cheaper keyboards use blue style switches, because red and brown are considered "premium" for being somewhat quiet. I think the typing experience is vastly improved by the satisfying click of each key, but some situations might call for quieter keys I suppose such as streaming or if you have roommates. I just reap the benefits though, because I love the click. 😂

Clicky switches get a bad name because of blue switches rattly plastic click, (which when originally invented was silenced with grease since the noise was so bad. The original goal was having the actuation and deactuation seperated to reduce double typing letters) Nowadays there’s atleast 3 metal clicker switches available: click bars, snapsprings and zeal clickiez’s click leaves and they all sound far better as well as the new model m buckling spring keyboards one of the greatest clicky switches made. Cherry’s plastic click jacket switches only succeeded since all the competition stopped making clicky switches. Check out alps clicky switches which also use a click leaf.

As the G513 clicky blue was my first mechanical keyboard I think that the switches are great! Also, you said that the switches were kinda wobbly, and in my opinion, that is not true unless you are bending the actual keycaps. Normal typing to me has no issues with a wobble. I only find wobble if I am pressing down a certain key very hard.

@@azitaulava I went with the tactile verison myself. You see I don't want my neighbors knocking on my door when I play games at night. Browns have a similar feel to blues but the tactile bump is a little lighter and you don't get the clicking sound.

Although it's cool that you can get custom keycap sets for the G512, I'm slightly disappointed that they didn't use the Romer-G switch design. I hope they haven't given up on it because I really want to see Romer-G custom keycap sets. Edit: typo.

I am actually thankful they went for the mx stems since the romer g stems, the problem with those especially if you're the type of gamer who rages, trust me it isn't gonna last long, some of my keys from the keyboard got broken stems and it's hard to game in them at that state. stems are too thin even no if distributed equally

Idk I have a razer blackwidow and my brother has the g513 and I'd say there's some kind of difference in the switches. It's not huge but I notice it. That said i'm %95 sure razer was using two oems from the start for their green switches. It was like kalih and greetech or something like that. I had two different blackwidow v2's and there was an obvious difference between the green switches in one vs the "same" green switches in the other. But I guess maybe all of this is just from manufacturing variances from one factory to the next or one year to the next.

Rather late, but I just bought a g513 and wanted to comment on something I noticed. My board is labeled as a g513 on the back, but it looks exactly like the g512 model with the characters in the top middle and with no lighting on the secondary parts of the keys. Appears as if they made too many g512s and slapped g513 on the back while putting in the box with the additional pad/keys.

News flash: G512 does have Tactile and Linear options. It's harder to look for G513 than G512 nowadays because it's redundant for sellers to be selling almost the exact same product.

No more MX style switches for me. The key wobble and the snapping of the right shift and right ctrl keycap stems (twice so far) has me wanting something more solid. Don't worry, I've glued and reinforced the broken keycap stems but I can tell it's only going to last me a few more months, unless I can teach my left pinky to only press dead-center on the shift and ctrl. Maybe it's just the bad choice of plastic Logitech used in my G710+ and maybe other MX switch keyboards doesn't have this issue. Going to go Romer-G switchs for my next keyboard.

GameOn! Right now I have an Alfawise V1 mechanical keyboard with blue switches. It's a Chinese keyboard I got really cheap but it's turned out to be really good. The switches are great and the individually lit RGB lighting is very good. I've been thinking of upgrading to a Razer (the new Huntsman looks very tempting) or a Corsair. Now with the Logitech 512 I have another option to consider.

G413 for those who don't fancy RGB that much. Besides, after a while, you stop caring about the colors projected through the keys and settle for something that's constant and helps you locate the keys in the dark at a fraction of a glance.

i just bought the g513 for $20 from Offerup. it was like new. I like the Romer-G keys due to the quieter press. Im honestly impressed by the quality of the g513. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an awesome gaming keyboard. Typing is also great.

All the Cherry fanboys in the comment section, Kalih has improved their quality to the point where they're on par with Cherry in their copied switches. I would expect people who are into keyboards to know about Kalih BOX switches, which far outpace anything Cherry has ever made in quality and feel, but then again most of the people who buy $150 dollar RGB enabled "gaming" keyboards didn't even know anyone else besides Cherry made switches until Romer-G came out.

Yeah Kailh BOX switches have Gateron's smoothness due to factory lube, but none of the wobble. Highly recommended.

Cat No, they're not BOX switches, they're Logitech designed MX Blue clones. The BOX switches are just an example of how Kailh has become better than Cherry in design and on par in manufacturing recent years and that brand name doesn't determine quality

Bought the G512 on the new year sale for IDR 1,299,000 (about USD $89 per December 2018) at the Indonesian Official Logitech Online Store in Tokopedia, quite satisfied, and quite hard to occasionally swapping it with my other 2 mechanical keyboards (both outemu, one blue and one brown) because i love the feel of GX Blue switches. The only compain i had now is these last 2 weeks my spacebar is going weak and slower to get up again after getting pressed. Do you have any tips on how to fix it? Since it is very hard to get a proper keyboard lubricant here in my country. Nobody sells it here :(

Seriously why do they always use cheery mx design for everything from kailh, Razer to Logitech GX switch. Only interesting mechanical switch right now is an Omron that used in Das Zulu, Romer G, and Creative Pres and also Novelkey Box switches.

I recently bought a 513 with the new GX red linear thinking i'd rather get the latest and greatest over the older romer g linear. I was majorly disappointed when I found that the FN, media, and secondary portions of the keys weren't lit up and was so confused as to why as they show as being lit up on the logitech website. your review was the only one I could find that actually broke down that lighting difference between the GX and Romer G switches. I know this review is very old, but thank you, finally I know I'm not crazy and I can return my gx red for a romer g as it's impossible to see the media functions without them being lit up.

If I wanted a clicky switch, I'd find a Model M with the buckling springs. You want clicky? That's clicky. Failing that, I'd go for MX Blues, like on my Das Professional for Mac. For a nice smooth typing experience all day long with a little tactile bump, it's Romer G.

Has anyone noticed that every place that sells the G513 new or used seems to show it with 512 keys? (Amazon, eBay) all seem to show 512 keys --> Keys are missing the secondary key funtion lighting and have the light bleed below the keys. Did Logitech lose their supplier for the OG G513 keys?

They don't sell anymore old (better) g513. Yes, there are a new g513 model that is way more worse than the old one. Quality and feel is cheap with that new one.

g512 GX Blue is the best. Love the sound, the feel, and I have tried it for myself. It is not really worth the hand rest and keycaps over the clickyness. I recommend g512. (for minecrafting) HEAR IT HERE: 4:39

I have the brown switch version. It was about 30 dollars cheaper than G513 when I bought it and I didn't really have the space to use that wrist rest. Also as far as I know G512 didn't have an option with GX browns. Anyways it's a great keyboard I'd recommend it though it's a little hard to afford one in my country as of now.

Oh my god the only difference between the G512 and G513 is the wrist rest, key caps, and key cap remover that's included in the G513. Otherwise, they are identical! The G512 also comes in Romer G Tactile and Linear! Don't get me wrong, I love Logitech G, but damn sometimes I question their decisions!

I really want to get the G513, but they don't sell it anywhere in Australia, apart from amazon au but it's 380AUD, and 267USD. And converting the numbers directly from Logitech's website, The G513 in America is like 210AUD. Pretty bs, considering it's my fav keyboard absolutely love the Romer-G tactile.

If I were to compare G513 with MX Red Switches compared to G512 with MX Red Switches would they be identical between the 2 keyboards? When you say that G513 offers Romerg-G Linear and Tactile, do you mean the switches themselves, right? So there should be no difference between G512 and G513 if I buy Mx Red on both? Also noticed that Logitech offers the Tactile version with G512.

Romer-G is a very limited design though, and can't be clicky. If you want a better sounding clicky switch, may I suggest Kailh BOX?

Romer G switches are prone to key chattering after a year or two, i'm not saying that every keyboard with this switch will have this problem, but i had two G810 that had the same problem around the same age.

FYI G512 also comes with Romer-G switches. You can buy the Romer-G variant of it and can still save some money. This reviewer is not telling the whole story.

I've had a first generation razer mechanical keyboard with the kailh green switches and they didn't even last 3 years and they started to fail. Now i buy a g513 with gx blue and you tell me that are made by kailh and they are pretty similar to the green ones :/ . I think next time i'll make my own personalizated keyboard.

That engineer lied to you. The Romer-G switches feel and look great but the keycap inserts with those tiny little tabs SUCK and fail A LOT. That is probably a real reason that basically all of their newer models have moved to the GX switches.

Also IF it’s the same, I notice that the lights on the top right that indicate if you have caps lock or are in game mode are following the rainbow theme. My keyboard (g512 se) doesn’t do that and I wanted to know how you can make it do it?

Maybe it's a feature on G512 and not G512 SE. I have a G512 myself and it came out of the box like that.

Logitech g512 has romer g, is the main difference the key switch because if that is the reason it's not good I'm getting it

G910 has the workstation build, and a lot more features, but only comes in romer g tactiles and has a mainly plasticky and gamery look G513 has more switch options, looks more professional, and overall will look more premium of a board

​@@jordanmadder7922 Hmm hard to explain. The only way i can explain it is that the switches are very "clicky" and mechanical. I really like them. Definitely the best overall keyboard i've had.
