THIS SEVEN YEAR OLD VIDEO ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS!!! Ive been spending months looking for how to do this and no one would ever explain why I only heard left and right sounds from these mics and how to do... WELL EXACTLY THIS!!! Two separate full audio tracks! THANK YOU

The title is misleading. You recorded in a single track with 2 mics. Now I see why you added 'Sort of'.

Thanks dude, this was useful. I needed to do this for the first time and I watched 2 or 3 videos prior to yours but they didn´t explain the issue you mentioned at 5:00 or so, which was the real problem I was having with my configuration that wouldn´t let both channels work as stereo but only as a mono audio track. A well earned like, and greetings from Argentina.

Dang it, this was the pointer to the solution I've been after for a while and it was super obvious. If you don't have a physical mixer, try using a virtual mixer like VoiceMeeter, then set the two inputs to be panned to opposite sides. Thanks for helping me figure out my problem.

Good video but probably not what you think it is because of confusing terminology. Most will understand "multi-track" recording to mean recording on a new track without destroying previous tracks. (Example, I record a guitar on one track; create a new track; record vocals to the new track using the same mic as I did before.) That's *not* what this video is. To be clear, Lo is explaining how to split a stereo input into two mono channels. I am not writing this to be critical, but to save you time if you are misled by the "multi-track" in the title. Cheers.

Coming back for a follow up question. I am trying to do the same thing you are except i have 4 mics instead of 2 if i wanted to do this but with 3 or 4 mics instead of just 2 how would i go about it?
@TheValentineShow6 жыл бұрын
If when you pan hard left and hard right on your mixer and Audacity is NOT separating the signals left and right. Make sure to disable all sound effects such as " noise suppression" and "acoustic echo cancellation" in the properties on the microphone on windows. If you have any of those effects on, audacity will NOT recognize the pan you did on your mixer and will take both signals of the 2 mics and mix it into one and cause you not to be able to have to separate tracks which is what you want.
@LoKnows6 жыл бұрын
Good advice, luckily i didnt come across that, but if that where in issue, i now know that would be an issue. thanks again!!

don't need to pan the mics on the mixer, you can just pan them left or right in audacity. and multitrack is more than 2 tracks i think
@LoKnows7 жыл бұрын
Hmmm are you sure? You pan it on the mixer because the mixer is sending over a stereo signal so you have to separate it by panning the 2 mic sources, but if you can separate in audacity then thats cool. Audacity can do multitrack, but you still wont be able to get more the 2 microphone recordings separately at the same time

I have the option of recording with the controller MIDI in Audacity. There is only one problem. When I record the next path, it is recorded on the first track next to it. It's exactly about recording to the beat of the first track recorded. However, when I want to record below the first track, I have to mute the first one. And then I can't hear the first one and the recorded new track does not go to the beat of the first. What should I do to record the next track to the rhythm of the previous one? In addition, the Audacity version that I have does not support additional plugins. I hope I have explained my problem clearly.

I also found another video that adds to this one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpnFeYlje7eeZs0 because when you go to the Settings - Additional Device Properties - Microphone Properties - Advanced, then there's a section to Unclick. make sure to unclick the Exclusive Mode boxes, and the Signal Enhancements boxes. I did everything mentioned in the above video but still couldn't get it to pan left and right from my mixer to Audacity until I went and unclick them boxes in the Advanced Properties section.

Could this be done with 4 mics
@CZghost5 жыл бұрын
No. You would need actually a multi-device external sound card and a proper mixer, that doesn't actually mix the channels together on an analog level, but does multiplexing on a digital level (kind of like studio mixer) - and this kind of stuff is very expensive. Audacity does support these, though. Read here: manual.audacityteam.org/man/multi_channel_recording.html

this is a good workaround but I guess this means you can't multi-track (more than 1 digital track copying each mic into their own track) isn't possible in this feeble program.

@LoKnows6 жыл бұрын
Where is the guest coming from, the PC or are they in front of you?
@futuredoc82386 жыл бұрын
A remote PC. They live in another state.
@LoKnows6 жыл бұрын
It should be as easy as setting the mic recorder option in audacity the same as the sound card ( the device that is feeding audio to your pc) now, if you using a mic that has its own separate device, i could see how you are having problems recording you and a guest at the same time. You would either need to invest in a mixer or use a 2nd software to record you and another software to record your guest. Each pointing at 2 different audio streams, you (1) and your guest (2). Then once you have the audio, you would have to match it up in editing. Not hard to do. but a mixer would solve all that.

Hi, I have a Behringer U-Phoria UMC 1820. I am still trying how to record 8 channels at the same time on audacity. Any help? Thanks in advance.
@LoKnows7 жыл бұрын
I have been trying to figure this out forever. I recently got a Yamaha MG12XU..expecting that i would be able to record 4 separate mic at the same time. Here are the obstacles, 1st from all of my testing, audacity does not see individual mic tracks. It only records in stereo, in which you split into mono (once) so the max separate channels you can record at the same time is 2. So thats a limitation of audacity. 2nd, ALOT of usb devices send their audio to the pc as stereo, so no matter how many inputs you have going in, it will always mix down to 2 channels ( stereo ). THat is just the way most devices are made, unfortunately for us, who are trying to record individual tracks. Im not giving up, i know FOR SURE, pro tools allows your record multiple individual tracks, but you need specialized hardware, so i want to try my mixer on that. But like i said, if most audio interface devices output in stereo. Besides that, i also have a zoom h6, its a portable recorder. That FOR SURE records 4 separate individual tracks, but records it on the device, not on the pC. Hope this helps, good luck. Im not giving up on figuring this out.

Jeez, during the demo they recorded a drum with different parts of the drum on different audio busses. I can't find this in Audacity.
@LoKnows7 жыл бұрын
Eric Griffin right. Has to be a limitation of audacity. I've given up on audacity for trying record anything over 2 channels.
@themadsamplist6 жыл бұрын
You need a soundcard with multiple inputs to do that so you can connect the channel outputs of your mixer to the inputs of the soundcard. Audacity is capable of multitrack recording (multichannel recording) if it's connected like that. A lot of mixers have a usb but that only records the master output so all channels together in a stereo file.
